‘The Men Who Sell Football’

Has anyone watched this?

Its very interesting, I remember rumours years ago that we had a secret investor behind Vichai and this documentary has both reminded me of that and made me realise how possible it actually is/was.

Does anyone else recollect rumours of this secret investor and was it ever rubbished or proven?

Edited to say that Leicester are not mentioned in the documentary at all.

Meant to have been a Chinese man was it not? He was supposedly putting in the cash.

There was Shilai Liu who came onto the board, but didn’t think he was overly rich.  Was it Iman Arif representing the Bakrie family from Indonesia.

Somebody else informs me the Thai Royal Family could be an investor too!

Lets really hope not.

Liu is actually still on the board and officially joint Vice-Chairman, but I haven't seen him involved at the club in any capacity. I believe he is a very good polo player but his business activities are virtually non-existent online.

As an aside, the club itself is now wholly owned by the Srivaddhanaprabha family, so Liu or any other party has no financial stake in it - Top has 55% control, his mum 15% and the other three siblings 10% each.

The documentary suggests that any of these could be a front for someone and no one would know about it. (Not necessarily happening at Leicester but it’s possible)

Interesting - was planning on giving it a watch later. KPI are of course no different to any other billionaires in terms of dodgy deals - we know of their links to the Brunei monarchy as well as the cosying up to the Thai king and various governments. And you only have to look at the trail to Macquarie Bank via their link to Kasikornbank in regards to our loans at the moment.

Oh, and did someone mention a Thai duty free company is in cahoots with a Thai foreign exchange firm?

I don't think Top would like you very much if he's reading this 🤬

Who knows, he might just smuggle you into his duty free airport and turn you into a ladboy 😉

Asian football investments bought the club which Vichai, Top and family where the majority of with a couple of outsiders, seem to remember a Chinese man mentioned. I even think mandy was meant to stay on as chairman for a short period. Not long after though KP took sole ownership and bought out the other investors involved. I think there was then rumours, most likely generated on here and other fan boards that there was a secret backer but they were just that, rumours. That’s how I remember it.

It also interestingly mentions that Abramovich was advised to basically buy Chelsea and get money over here in case there was any change in political power and he was to fall out of favour, it was done as asset protection.

Now we know what’s been going on with the Thai monarchy over the last few years.

Could be coincidence but there is similarities.

No mate. King power have taken an absolute kicking in the last 18 months and there's no money left. A bloke who read the accounts told me.

Sounds more like somebody isn’t informing you but just telling you what they’re speculating.

If they really wanted to Launder money, we’d be building a new 80,000 seater stadium.

…… who’s done that recently.

This is far too pragmatic and complex for 85% of our fan base to even want to begin to understand. They’d rather kid themselves that King Power are altruistically bankrolling the club and we were purchased because Top saw us play Middlesbrough in 1997…

Tbf that’s the way I like to see it lol

Tbf you have to be sceptical as to why people would buy top football clubs with 100% genuine and legitimate intentions. You're almost guaranteed to lose money, so why would you do it unless you've got an affinity to the club.

We could be classed differently as we were bought when we were still in the Championship and had great potential to grow and make money for the owners. But no one is ever sure what the source of funds are for any owners, so it could be laundered money?

Most PL clubs are a good investment…. The expectation is that at some point in the future, clubs will be able to run on PPV basis via their own channels.  That’s gonna create a lot of dosh, especially if only clubs are able to sell their home games and not away fixtures.
