If there’s one thing Daka has got it’s pace. He’s got clear technical deficiencies in parts of his game but to say he’s not fast simply isn’t true.

The amusing thing for me is the two most hyped up young strikers in Euripe outside of the main leagues were Edouard and Daka in 2021. We now have them both. Could we be about to land on a cheat code or defy science that both are absolutely mingin' ?

I'm delighted to see him on the mend. There were some appalling bad taste comments on here when he got injured. 

 

He's been largely garbage for us. Though, I'm convinced some of that can be put down to him trying too hard and over compensating. 

 

He's athletic, he can lead the press (something Vardy simply cannot do) and, with a bit of TLC, luck and confidence, could be a very respectable player if utilised in the right way

Daka’s mainly mythological pace is continually pulled out as a reason to hope he’ll come good. Whilst it’s clear that he’s been rapid during games from the Google evidence etc, it’s very very rare that we actually see it successfully used in a match. 

He rarely seems to outpace his centre half, maybe because he’s easily physically bullied or because his movement always seems to put him step behind his opponent- or maybe it’s the fact that when he runs with the ball it’s like watching someone trying to dribble a balloon at a party.

Patson Daka is a decent striker when played in a front two. He's shown that here, especially when he played with Iheanacho. In typical Leicester style, we bought someone for a system we don't play.

Daka is visibly one of the quickest players I've ever seen but his positional play is so poor we rarely see the benefit

Kelechi and Daka upfront v Brighton in 22/23 the only bright spark from that game. For some reason, I don’t think we tried it again.
 

The lone striker role in the modern game has really lost the strike partnership. Shearer/Sutton. Yorke/Cole. Dickov/Deane

McAvennie/Cottee, Rush/Dalglish, and Toshack/Heighway are some of my most memorable.

Aren’t all strikers better when they are played in a front two though? There’s another player closer, occupying a centre back and providing a foil. It invariably means though that there are less numbers in the key midfield area and this compromise seems to be generally not risked anymore.
 

The best strikers can step up and make it work as a single striker. If Daka can only play in a two then he’s not got the attributes to ever be a good striker in the Premier League or even in The Championship.

Patson has excellent workrate, but his finishing last season was awful. It will be good to see him back and see how he gets on. Maybe the counter attack game we play now will suit him more?
