Why boot it up field or clear it when you can play a sideways pass and invite more pressure on ourselves? Or even better just play our way into trouble and gift the opposition chances? Oh I do love it when we do that, it's so funny. Lolz.

Castagne was probably our first player today but if he headed that cross for a corner, second goal doesn’t happen. Four of the last five goals conceded are so scrappy, chances to clear and tackle

Precisely....zero composure

So is it better to kick it out of play and definitely give it to the opposition?

It was like we.d gone back a few decades with aimless head it as far as you can, hoof it up field for nearly all of them to go straight to the opposition then add in the awful pass completion and the time machine is set..

We booted it away quite a lot today and it nearly always came straight back at us.

I don't mind a good boot oit to relive some pressure, but some of our clearances were struggling to stretch 10 yards. Bertrand, Barnes and Vestergaard repeat offenders of feeble clearances

In some instances, yes. If you kick it out of play for a throw-in near the halfway line then both teams will reset their shape and a new phase of play begins with them in possession. If you make a poor clearance to one of their players who is 35 yards out then they will have possession higher up the pitch and their aerial threat (i.e. centre backs) will still be in our area.

It’s a problem. Without doubt. However, our inability to pick up that second ball is a joke at the moment. It just kept coming back today. For 90mins! I don’t get what we are concentrating on in training at the moment. Our basic ability in games is so poor.

One of the issues here is bringing everyone back for defensive set pieces means that when we do clear the ball possession is simply surrendered.

Our defending of set pieces in general is horrendous. No real man marking and as you say everyone back.

We would be much better off leaving two players on the half way line then it forces the opponents to leave 3 back at least.

It baffles me how the clearances we do make, and in fact almost any long ball we play, ends up in the centre circle with an opposition CB. We seem unable to play the ball into a channel and get them turned very often

Because we play so deep, content to play it between our CB's just infront of our 18 yard box, it allows opposition to pressure us and move up, it allows their CB's to be so high up the field, in the centre circle.

People say we struggle for space, because we play so bleeding deep, compact, playing nothing but sideways and backwards exclusively and we're content to do it because "we're controlling the game". Far ****ing from it.

On the odd occassion we do go forward, attack, look positive Brendan gets the mardys. I swear attacking positive football offends him and the negative football he loves because he feels in 'control'.

Not really the reason though. We played very deep when we won the league, didn’t stop us getting balls into the channel and opposition defences turned.

Today wasn’t far off the 2016 shape yet we had almost nothing in behind all game. Passing accuracy was about back to then too, difference being then we were losing the ball higher up and soon back in shape, not 40 yards from our own box and scrambling to get back into position.

I mean, even Brendan is moaning about our defending post match, so he knows…. So basically what he’s saying is we are absolutely shit at it, and he’s ****ed it signing HMS Vestergaard and that useless bag of shit Bertrand.

Just try Benkovic, he can’t be any worse than Vesty, planets move faster than that ****.

This. It’s basic defending in the box is where we’re conceding stupid goals. We rarely get ripped apart totally, it’s just silly goals we give away.

We were all at sea in that second half. Palace had soooo much time on the ball. They kept finding oceans of space in the channels and out wide, we were not laying a glove on them. It really looked like headless chicken stuff. I do feel for our defence a little today, because they weren't helped one bit by our midfield.
Hamza is so kamikaze while we should probably not start Lookman and Barnes in a 4-4-2. They are defensively horrendous and left Castgane and Bertrand with no protection whatsoever.

If you choose a 4-4-2 like this, you need someone like Albrighton playing to get that defensive workrate and discipline.

Boot it out of play of up the field if in doubt though. We were cushioning it back for assists

We've faced pretty much the most shots in the league this season...We have been 'ripped apart' all season, and could have easily conceded 4+ goals in every game, league or cup, except at Norwich.

We could easily be sat on 0 points in the League, Europe and out of the League cup.

We've been battered in every game, bar Norwich/Milwall, where we were only even/slightly better at best.
