What a player, just like Heskey the whole city was buzzing when they both burst on to the scene.

It’s been to long since we have had a kid from the academy that has got us of our seats.

Either embarrassing I can remember such detail or embarrassing if I'm wrong, but I think Julian and Heskey had 20 mins or so away at Millwall together on a new years day, when MON was first with us and we were chasing the game. I don't think they ever played together apart from that.

Not long after, MON (who clearly didn't fancy him in the same way Rodgers doesn't Kel) threw him.in late on at Stoke-again chasing a game in that disastrous opening 10 games or so - and he missed a header, an absolute sitter, with the last play of the game in front of our end. He looked gutted. He knew his time was up and I kinda appreciated the way he so wanted to end on a high.

“I never wanted to leave Leicester,” says Joachim.

Could have fooled me, Julian. You jumped ship pretty sharpish.

He definitely didn’t want to leave. He was told by George he needed to go to fund incomings. It was a shame because he was adored here.

Nah, despite him saying he didn’t want to leave some geezer on FT told me he wanted to leave so that must be true.

He actually had a decent career. Obviously not as good as hoped when he first burst on to the scene with us ("18 years of age and the world at his feet", as Tyldesley stated). But decent nonetheless.

He netted well over 100 goals in total up and down the top 4 divisions, with 42 goals (and 14 assists) coming in the Premier League.

In fact, he managed 0.38 goals per 90 mins in his PL career, and 0.51 goals and assists per 90. Really not too shabby at all.

Yes, I seem to remember him having a very respectable goal scoring record at villa despite playing most of his games off the bench.

He looked destined for greatness when he first broke into the team and his best goals were breathtaking. Barnsley away in the FA Cup, Portsmouth in the play-offs and a few others as well.

If you'd told me in 1993/94 that Julian Joachim would never play for England, never play for a ''top six'' club and never win anything I would have laughed at you. But looking back now, none of the big clubs of that era, Man U, Liverpool, Blackburn, Newcastle, Arsenal ever showed the slightest interest. Maybe they knew something we didn't.

Aston Villa finished between 4th and 8th in each season in his time there. He didn't play for a struggler like Southampton or Coventry in those years.

Yep. Villa were a "top six" club back then. Certainly more so than Spurs. And Chelsea and Man City weren't anywhere near the clubs they are now.

One other game that I remember (if my memory is correct). McGhee had just left for Wolves and we were in between managers. David Nish (our youth team manager) was caretaker. We were playing Norwich who had also just lost their manager (Mr. O’Neil).

2-0 and we were flat as anything and then Whitlow scored an absolute screamer. Nish decided to freshen things up and brought on 17 year old Heskey - 2-2. I can’t remember who scored. Then Joachim came on. 3-2 to us, Heskey scoring the winner.

I don’t think the partnership actually made the difference. It was Heskey Norwich couldn’t contain, not really Joachim but it was the stuff of dreams. Two academy graduates leading the Leicester line.

Will buy this, forget how good of a footballer Julian was. When I started going he was my hero. Such a shame his career never went as far as it should of. That Leicester team under Brian Little wasn’t the greatest but one of my favourite Leicester teams.

I bumped into JJ last year, had a good chat especially about the goals against Barnsley and Portsmouth at Forest in the playoffs. He currently works as a builders labourer, still in good shape and was playing non league for Bourne Town.

Heskey and Joachim had that X factor about them, Barnes hasn’t I’m afraid.

All 3 have/had the X Factor.

Harvey Barnes is a fantastic young player. The goals against Sheffield United, Napoli, Liverpool, Man U etc surely got people off their feet…!

The amount of criticism our current team get is tedious. The poster said it’s been 20 odd years since we had a youth team player to be excited about.

We’ve had a dodgy start to the season but the club has a really decent youth set up - Chilwell, KdH, Thomas, Hamza and Barnes all have/had a role to play in a very successful period.
