...I  do wonder if all the AFCON players are all committed to go with the team in this injury crisis!!!

I'm not a fan of these comments, we don't question the same with European competitions, or even the South American ones to the same extent.

Yet for many of our African based players, playing for their country will be one of the highlights of their careers.

Benkovic, Nelson, Nelson, Vestergaard …. If we’re desperate, Castagne.

Would be good if Nelson could duplicate himself, great asset to have during an injury crises like this. We’ve missed that since Kante leaving!

...we do get the situation where there is a club versus country in European countries, there is no reason why this cannot be applied to players from Africa!!!

There could be a reluctance from a player to travel due to the threat of the virus and when all is said, they would put their family first.

In many sports, competitions individuals have chosen not to take part due to covid and it is a matter for the individuals regarding their own safety.

About £25m quids worth of centre backs in Benkovic and Vestergaard and I think we'd all prefer to play Castagne and Dorris the Team lady there.

She's injured..

2 to 3 weeks according to BR .. so she'll miss the cup 😎

I fully agree with all of this, that it's a thought to consider given the current state of the world with Covid.

But my comment was over you suggesting a player going to the AFCON isn't commited to the club during the injury crisis, which is frankly barmy

Many are questioning the World Cup in the middle of next season.

It's the fact its middle of the season people have issues with AFCON, now I don't know when the African leagues start/finish this could well be the time where there leagues have finished in which case its the time for them to play their competition which you can't really argue against but even so that's where the issue stems from.

I have a massive problem with the World Cup being in the middle of next season, for me international football can get in the bin, the only time i'm interested in international football is during a tournament because it's close season and there is nothing on so i'm all for it, that obviously isn't the case for the forthcoming World Cup, apart from that international football is nothing but an inconvenience.

For me, much of the questioning has come abouts due to how absolutely obvious it is that this entire competition has been set up due to bribery.

To be fair Dorris is much underrated IMO. Great distribution skills and always consistent despite niggling injuries -varicose veins etc.

We’ve got Ben Nelson and Ronny Nelson I believe. Both centre backs.

....that was not what I was saying!!!

My comment was not about a lack of loyalty to the club, players have failed to meet up with their compatriots and various reasons have been splashed about, injuries have been used as a viable reason and it could  easily be coming from a player as opposed to a ruse by their club.

By watching the players concerned it is obvious they have integrity in what they do, players do relinquish International football in favour of their clubs, it is not unheard of.

They should have pulled the World Cup from Qatar, similar to the way it should have been pulled from Russia.

We’ve shown we’re incapable of controlling fans, so stand no chance of securing a tournament in the near future.

I think people only say it about AFCON because it clashes with the premier league season and players miss around 4 weeks where as with European competitions they don’t miss any. Nothing to do with it meaning less or anything like that.

Thing is that we've always wanted it in summer, but this stupid world cup made for such thing to be impossible

I get why the don’t play AFCON in the summer. In Africa that would be crazy with the heat, so the winter makes sense.  It’s just inconvenient to our football calendar and comes at a time when we tend to have a larger number of injuries historically after a condensed period of games. To the African teams, this competition is as important to them, as the Euros is to England players etc. AFCON is slightly more awkward, as it’s every 2 years.

It’s less of a risk signing a Daka I suppose, as they stand less chance of qualifying. However teams may be put off on signing the likes of N’Didi, Iheanacho, Amartey, as they are missing for 4 weeks a season, or 8 weeks in a 4 year contract. That’s 10% of the games potentially they’d play during the contract. I wonder if they still get paid whilst they’re away at these tournaments?

Benkovic.

And why not. Surely we can give him a chance. He was the new VVD in the SPL.

Excuse my ignorance, and dirty mind.

What exactly is the role of a Team Lady?
