At least our current centre-back situation is forcing Rodgers not to play three CB's because there aren't any. What conceivable good do they do anyway? Obviously they can't defend corners or free-kicks. On the basis of what we saw against Liverpool we could do with binning off Soyuncu for the rest of the season, because where there's Soyuncu, goals will follow, whether it's Leicester City or the increasingly inept Turkish national side.

I would rather have no CB's at all. Each opponent would have to guess who was going to turn up as our number 5, whether it's Maddison or Albrighton or Perez. They would have to devise a complex system of hand gestures to decide which one it's going to be for the next five minutes. It would work like Maddison raising his arms for corners, meaning 'I'm going to pick out the first defender, so you can all relax'. And it would drive the MOTD pundits barmy, with one of them saying 'They are trying to play total football but they haven't got there yet' and the other one saying 'It's mad, but Rodgers could be on to something here, no, on second thoughts it's mad'

A sort of back door pep guardiola approach 😀 ingenious

With Daka and Vardy out and kel off to Afcon we may be mirroring that up front too.

I have no idea whether Filip Benkovic is outspoken but the evidence is that Rodgers does not get on with players who don't follow the party line. Praet being the obvious example. Its rather ironic that he may be forced to turn to him now though. Actually they have a longer relationship than any of our other CBs which would suggest they understand each other pretty well. I have no worries about him doing a decent fill in job for us though , he hasn't suddenly become a bad player.

Is it possible that we play better when Rodgers is forced into a situation as opposed to using his brain? The season not enough centre halves so can't play 3 at the back, last season due to injury, had no choice but to play Iheanacho who became our top scorer. 😀

Would be searching to get a loanee CB in for next league game until end of season or if they have any cash go and buy one. Tarkowski the obvious if buying.

Tarkowski ? Was he playing last night against MU ?

I think he would be a summer signing, think a loan signing more likely in the next week or so. Depends how serious the club is to be honest.

You would think so

this is a fella that effectively went on strike at Brentford to get his move to Burnley

the monies on offer at newcastle will make his mind up for him …..

I'm not a fan of these comments, we don't question the same with European competitions, or even the South American ones to the same extent.

Yet for many of our African based players, playing for their country will be one of the highlights of their careers.

The Euros aren’t in the middle of the season.  It really is as simple as that.

Maybe because our temperatures don’t hit 40 degrees on a daily basis in summer.  They deserve a tournament as much as we do with the Euros. If we don’t want to lose players to the African cup, don’t buy players from Africa

1/3 of African countries are in the southern hemisphere and in the middle of summer now.  the world cup in south africa was played in the winter

And to add, Cameroon warmest months of year are January and February.

It really does make you think why clubs are a bit brassed off with AFCON and dont "value it".

Yeah, it's our summer right now.

Would be much better playing it during the northern hemisphere's summer.

Today wasn't too warm, but it got up to 42 a week or so ago and then it rained cooling it down a bit.

Previously Doris was the tea lady at Manchester City..

She joined in training sometimes and learnt a lot from Pep Guardiola.

He gave her lots of PG tips.

Surely it would make more sense to play the #AFCON in countries with average daily temperatures below 40 degrees.
As I live in the country of Africa though, I’m unsure how this could happen as everyday and in each village it’s easily 40 degrees every day.
My advice would be to host the #AFCON in Scotland where it’s cold every single day of the year. It could be hosted any day of the year.

Pretty sure most premier league clubs are refusing to deal with Newcastle

Surely there is no way that Burnley will sell one of their key players to Newcastle in January when they are direct rivals? Think they will hold on to Tark until the summer to give them the best chance of staying up this season, even if it means him leaving subsequently on a free. If they get a silly offer in January from a club not involved in the relegation battle they might consider it but I don't think they will sell to Newcastle at any price in Jan.
