Some strange/disappointing omissions.

Given the lack of strikers available, Wakeling is unlucky to not be involved but then I gather he's been binned off by the under 23's this year.

Similar with what's happened to Maswanhise who looked really bright in pre-season and would have been worth involvement.

But the one I'm most disappointed in is Suengchitthawon. He probably won't make it as a prem player but he's looked pretty tidy the few times I've seen him and he's at the age where it's now or never. Or maybe he just wants to get off early to get on the sauce for his birthday :D.

Rodgers is great at developing young players and will give them a chance but there doesn't seem to be much clear plan of implementing them. Some lads are involved in pre-season then unable to break into the 23's and then others are randomly drafted in from nowhere. Hope anyone given a shot today does well.

Imagine his is purely he’s been away with Thailand and only come back last few days so won’t have trained really! If 23s were uninterrupted I reckon he’d be on bench today for the 23s

Under 23s lineup

Young; Justin, Spencer-Adams, R. Nelson; Suengchitthawon, Ewing, Cartwright, Hughes; Maswanhise; Wakeling, Fitzhugh.

Subs: Flynn, Odunze, T. Pennant, Russ, Wormleighton.

So along with the 5 we know

VDC, Brunt, Nelson, Mcateer, Alves

Could also see these involved

Stolarczyk and Marcal-Madivadua

Was wondering if we could have thrown JJ in the Cup game today. It will basically be an under 23 game anyway.

Surprised this game is going ahead if we are already trying to call off the next game…

We are probably less concerned about playing kids in the fa Cup than we would be in the league

I can't handle Youri playing in this pointless game and potentially getting injured. It's already a farce, I don't see why we'd risk any players considering we've already screwed up plenty by playing them when they shouldn't be played.

I suggested playing the kids yesterday but got roasted for it. Admittedly my choice of words were a bit wrong.

The fa’s opinion is that you play whoever is fit to get a team out

if that’s kids then you play the kids

Sorry but any defence of the FA Cup in any game is not pointless!!

Disagree. In the context of this situation, for me it's incredibly pointless to risk anybody. We've got a crack at the Europa conference still and already falling behind on fixtures. If the kids can win then fair to them.

I personally wouldn't have Barnes, Youri, Madders or Vesty anywhere near this game.

Yeh I wasn't keen on the idea of playing a full team of kids but then given we play Everton on Tuesday, the last thing we need is to risk anymore 1st team players getting injured. I do think he will play all 8 fit outfield players he has available but hopefully not risk Castagne

Aside from defending the FA cup, it genuinely is lol

Probably the most intrigued I've ever been for a teamsheet being released. Most games you can guess the team and maybe only get 1 or 2 wrong but literally no idea how we will line up today.

It's arguably the only chance we have of Europe next season.

Although given how much we moan about extra games, extra workload, added scheduling along with how we seem to treat Europe with contempt I question if we really wanna bother with Europe anyway.
