Anti-air they have been getting, aircraft and drones would have to come with people to fly them, which Putin would without doubt see as a declaration of war from NATO.

I really hope the impact on the Russian economy and wealth of the sanctions give China pause for thought.  They are much more reliant on the global economy than Russia, and their exports are easier (to a point) to halt than Russia's gas supplies.  Also a vast amount of Chinese wealth is invested outside of China and therefore could be frozen or indeed taken.  I still don't think China has the naval or air power to take on the US, despite their enormous army.

I think you could argue that there is a case for censorship IF we’ve been banned altogether from discussing the war, and all things Russia/ Ukraine, but we haven’t.
 

What’s happened is that someone, who gives up their free time to help run this forum has decided it’s far easier ( and quicker)  to deal with the situation  by deleting the thread, starting a new one and then get back to spending time with their family.

 

Now you can argue wether that’s the right thing or not, but remember that  no one gets paid around here…

Satellite imagery company Maxar Technology says that earlier reports indicating the column of Russian armour advancing on Kyiv is 17 miles (27km) long are inaccurate.

The convoy actually stretches about 40 miles, according to Maxar.

The company added that new images also show ground troops and attack helicopters in southern Belarus, less than 20 miles from the Ukraine border.

Apologies if I had anything to do with the thread being closed. I'm not sure if I did but yesterday I had an off topic back and forth with someone about the desire to hold nuclear weapons here. To my defence I did notice I was getting the thread off track and tried to deesculate it.

I fear you might be right. And because I don't want to pick a fight with you or blame you entirely, I'm trying to be careful in what I say now - but I think that perhaps your initial comment about wiping Russia out was incredibly ill-judged, and that some of the reactions were fairly understandable.

It might be unsavoury and I’m by no means advocating it either. But I’m not sure it’s ‘ill judged’ all the same. 
 

It feels to me like this is only escalating and escalating (all from one side) 

 

I think the longer this drags on, the less the likelihood of some internal coup or assassination is too. 
 

My original post on Sunday did state what people wanted to beat me with the stick for. It was based on the assumption that the Russians wouldn’t have time to retaliate. Until a poster corrected me on that point. 
 

From that point, it became a null and void ‘debate’ 

 

But originally my thought was along the lines of ‘evil triumphing when good men do nothing’ 

 

It goes without saying that the last thing I and anyone would want would be a nuclear war ffs- I shouldn’t need to qualify my original comment by stating that.

 

So far we’ve called Putins bluff on everything, and he’s manage to hoodwink us every single time. He’s an animal now backed into a corner who’s lost face in front of the entire world. He knows he’s probably going to be looking at the death penalty if hes ever caught, and that’s if he doesn’t have some form of cancer as speculated by some. But some people seem to want to believe he’s not mad enough to escalate things to a level never seen before. I hope you’re right.

It's either China giving the indication this is wrong, or more worryingly, they know it's about to kick up another level

I get all of that. I think the elephant in the room is that even in the unlikely event that flattening Russia would not result in missiles being sent our way, we'd nevertheless be entirely responsible for poisoning the entire globe & atmosphere anyway, so there's not much kudos to be had there.

 

I realise you're both feeling attacked yet evidently erudite enough to argue your case - however, I would kindly suggest you allow the possibility that you might have just goofed, and we can all let it go. I think how you said what you said was a mistake.

Seeing lots of images now of just utter destruction. I previously thought there was a small chance of the Ukrainians repelling this advance, but really can't see that now. Russia seems to be throwing the kitchen sink now and the situation seems hopeless.

Don’t get me wrong- I’m not feeling sorry for myself. People are entitled to jump on my back if they feel that what I said is wrong. But I think definitely some people think I’m some sort of nuclear war supporter, when it shouldn’t need to be explained that nobody in their right mind would be.

Russia has a hell of a lot of artillery, and it seems they have now brought that to bear on the major cities.

There will literally be nothing left of the right side of Ukraine once the Russian’s have finished. Just bombing the shit out of everything by the looks of it. I have a real bad feeling about the coming days that it’s going to get a whole lot worse.

And you’ll see from my earlier post that I recognise and appreciate the contribution of those who manage the forum 

 

However, on this occasion I believe that the better approach would be to delete offending posts or even pages without removing the whole thread. There was a lot of good material and discussion and information and opinions that should have remained accessible. I can’t believe that the work to remove offending posts or relevant pages was so much more onerous to merit losing the entirety of the thread’s content. Normally I’d take no issue with the broad brush approach but not in this case.
