We need him off of the books if BR's new lean squad will play out next season. I can't see us loaning him out again and risk further reduction in a transfer fee. He's a Belgian international.

Club chief ‘will contact’ Leicester to ‘accelerate’ transfer – ‘Important week’ for everyone involved

Finally, we may have some actual movement in the rather unexciting saga involving Leicester City’s Dennis Praet and a potential stay at Torino.

The reports from the past month or so have all been very similar, with the general idea being that the Serie A side, while impressed with what the Belgian offered throughout the course of the season, weren’t prepared to pay the pre-agreed €15m from the initial loan with the Foxes.

That’s because, despite playing well, Praet spent a chunk of the season injured, which caused some concerns about a long-term commitment.

This is all valid for a club whose finances aren’t exactly extraordinary, and their idea was to extend his loan by another year (with a fee up front) while adding a lower purchase clause for next summer.

Tuttosport have an update on the situation on Monday, as they claim this could be an ‘important week’ when it comes to the Leicester midfielder’s future, as David Vagnati, Torino’s director of football, ‘will contact the English club to accelerate matters’.

As explained above, the aim is to extend the current loan, but there remains a need to convince Leicester of the move.

This could all come down to whether the Foxes find any other takers for Praet in the meantime, because if they don’t, the offer from Torino could become viable.

It’s said that Leicester’s initial response was a no, but with 20 days or so passing since then, and no offers being made from elsewhere, ‘the conversations with Torino could be re-opened, possibly on loan but this time with a mandatory option to buy’.

For that to happen, however, Tuttosport say the Italians would want certain goals to be achieved first, such as seeing how his fitness holds up next year (meaning a minimum number of appearances) and where they end up in the league.

Ivan Juric, the manager, has put Praet as his ‘first objective’, wanting to build his new team around the Leicester loanee, and is even prepared to tweak the player’s training to help with his physical issues.

This is why we are in an ‘important week’ when it comes to the Belgium international, as securing his services would ‘send a strong signal, not only to Juric, but also to some players that are in the sights of the club and who, before accepting a move, want to see the club’s intentions’.

Talk about taking the P***. If they want to accelerate it how about paying a transfer fee.

I’m not sure why this is remotely surprising to anyone. This must be standard buyer vs seller positioning, Torino will of course propose preferential terms for the deal, and presumably, we will bat those back pretty quickly as they’re ridiculous. Then we’ll close the gap somewhat, meet somewhere in the middle where everyone’s happy enough to make the deal …. Or, hopefully, we get interest from another club who aren’t so tight and are willing to fork out more upfront then the game changes. This must be common place for every single transfer, I imagine we have or are doing the same with CDK!

These clubs have us over a barrel when there is little interest.

They seem to be showing their hand a little too keenly though for a team who are trying to do us dirty on him.

Are they not doing the old “FM classic - make interest public” to try to kick start some movement?

They have probably told Dennis and his agent that they will only match his pay with us if there is a very modest fee. We have had this with Ghezzal. To me, we would be better off having him back in the squad.

It does get to the point where you start thinking 10m for Praet looks an absolute steal, if we can't shift him for 15. We might as well keep him instead of assuming the position with these tight fockers. Ghezzal was different as it was clear he would never make it in the prem. Praet could well still do a job, especially if Tielemans goes, as he would get more game time.

...if your manager does not rate you to be in his team, then you stand little chance of making this work!!!

You either get your head down and try to convince him that you are good enough, or if it is a clash if personalities, that chance will never come.

That of course depends on whether a manager stays , many a player has been rehabilitated after a manager is sacked.

...but as you can see, he is clearly going nowhere!!!

In clubs you have half the team who loves the manager and the rest not so much, Praet is not going to be waiting around, he will be out of the door any opportunity he gets.

Midfield 3 of

Ndidi, KDH & Sangare

or

Ndidi, KDH & Praet

If you pick the 1st maybe it’s not Rodgers you have an issue with

.. looking at both options, there is not a great deal of creativity there!!!

You do need a creative player if you are playing with a central three.

Not necessarily look at Liverpool they rely on fullbacks and the wide pair of the front three

I would like someone with a creative spark for sure but I can also see the way of playing with the, win the midfield battle with the high energy, high recycling approach.

If your to replace Tielemens like for like we still in the same boat being so key reliant of things happening coming from him, stop him stop us, which happened often.

but

KDH proved his high energy also affected how we played combining well with Justin and Barnes, we generally played better overall when KDH was on it than looking for that 1 or 2 killer passes from Tielemens.

I think a KDH Sangare type pairing would actually suit us better if we get that creative right forward.

I think if Sangare is an actual target then I assume it would be to fill both the roles you have for Maddison and Ndidi going from this section

But Sangare, on paper, would be a big hit. Rodgers wants a box-to-box midfielder who is an all-rounder, and Sangare is certainly that. Starting off with the defensive attributes, he is an exceptional ball-winner. His tally of 169 tackles and interceptions was the best of any player in the Eredivisie this season, despite only starting 26 of 34 matches.

In possession, he ranks highly for carrying the ball forward, dribble success rate, progressive passing, and ball retention. This season, he had his most effective campaignat the very top end of the pitch too, with four goals and four assists in all competitions.

I think either way he’d be a better option than Praet due to the versatility especially this season if we are going to reduce numbers due to fewer games as he will allow us to rest Ndidi, Maddison or play in a diamond and rest someone from the front either wide forwards or Vardy with the diamond allowing to play Nacho and Daka together

They know few clubs will buy, especially considering what wages he'll be on and his injury. So why not. Barring a minor miracle he'll be going on loan again.

It's Slimani / Silva etc all over again. We'll just take the best loan fee / wages contribution someone offers

I suspect you're right but by openly admitting that the manager wants to build his team around him and that the president may well grant him his wish of paying the option price as a last resort, it is very unlikely to soften the stance of us in trying to get him gone permanently.

I think we'll loan him out but with an obligation to buy for £10m next summer.

...I really do not believe that Sangare can take the place of Maddison!!!

Not the same skillset, we would be putting players in the wrong areas. Out of the three, I would rather see KDH more forward than Sangare.

Ooh no agree I mean in that formation Moore had as in an 8 with KDH as an 8 also & not as a 10 instead of Maddison.

http://sportwitness.co.uk/club-made-e9m-package-deal-leicester-man-player-wants-summer-move/

Club have made €9m+ package deal for Leicester man – Player wants summer move

That’s why Torino, according to Tuttosport, have decided to make a ‘rush forward’, and have put on a plate a ‘reviewed and accurate offer’, which is a new (paid) loan of around €1m with an obligation to buy at €8m + bonuses determined by certain conditions.

Those would be linked to his output on the field (number of appearances, goals and assists) as well as the final ranking of the club in Serie A.

While the finer details of those milestones aren’t revealed, the obligation to buy is described as ‘almost certain’, meaning they would be easily achievable.

All this would allow Leicester to ‘resolve a transfer market problem in a sufficiently convenient manner’, and Torino would be prepared to negotiate this until the end of June, as they want the player for their preseason.

If all this is agreed, then Praet would need to be given a contract by the Italians, with it said a multi-year deal at €2.5m/year or so post tax could be on the table.

Down the player’s end, Tuttosport make it clear the midfielder ‘wants to stay at Torino’, giving you an indication on his feelings about a return to the King Power Stadium.

A lot to take in, but moves are being made, meaning this could be the beginning of the end of Praet’s time at Leicester.

I'll be really annoyed if we agree to something like that.

He's done well enough over here for us to allow us to fleece at least £15m out of a bottom half prem/promoted side!

We need to be more like Liverpool with stuff like this.

These Italian clubs are so tight aren’t they. Saw Milan were haggling over a €4.5m obligation to buy 😂

what was the original option - €15?

Hopefully we can raise them a bit to €2m now and €10m obligation say. Would be a wedge off the wage bill as well
