Manager desperate for Leicester man to stay – Different avenues explored, €15m transfer off the cards

Torino manager Ivan Juric has asked the club to keep Leicester City midfielder Dennis Praet beyond this season.

That’s according to Tuttosport, relayed by Tuttomercatoweb, who say the Italian club could seek a reduction in the cost to sign the Belgian.

Praet is currently on loan at Torino, and while he has been out injured in the last few games, Juric remains impressed and ‘has understood the importance’ the midfielder has in his squad.

So much he has asked club chief Urbano Cairo to get a permanent deal sorted, although the Torino chairman does not plan to match the €15m clause Leicester inserted into the current loan deal.

He wants to find a different agreement, perhaps on a loan for another season that would include payments to the Foxes.

Alternatively, he could ask for a ‘significant discount’ on the price Leicester are demanding for the Belgian midfielder. That’s presumably €15m, a figure Cairo doesn’t want to pay thus he will be ‘negotiating downwards’.

What price he is willing to pay isn’t mentioned, but it seems he has no intention of matching Leicester’s asking price, meaning this could be a negotiation which runs for a while.

I think not.

Well, if he’s playing that well they might have competition for his services. I’d be happy with a bidding war. They’ll soon find the money if they want him bad enough..

Use him as store credit for Bremer?

Would be a great deal for us that. £20m plus Praet for Bremer would be okay IMO. They want €30m reportedly, but given the names linked with him I suspect he’ll go for more.

It will all be about Denis's pay. Any buyer will have to match his 75k a week salary with us.If they do so the fee will  probably be negotiated down. We have to judge whether it is better to bring him back. Any possible animosity between him and Rodgers will then have to be forgotten.

...I would say that it will be up to Torino to decide if they wish to sign him!!!

His salary will not be an option as you would take a lesser wage to allow to play in a team you enjoy playing for and getting regular game time. I would take a £15k a week drop to get out of an atmosphere that made you not wanting to come to work every day.

The problem is agents are hard nosed professionals and would be most unlikely to advise their client to take a pay cut whilst in contract.

If Youri does go he probably fits the current 3 man set up, he’s not Youri but he he doesn’t have to be he just has to be KDH which I think he has the legs for more so than Youri

He probably fits the system better than Youri tbh

But isn’t he very similar to KDH? Shouldn’t we be looking for someone to compliment KDH & Ndidis strengths not just have another ‘shuttle/runner’ in there?

I think Praet would compliment them, as he could do on the right side what kdh is doing on the left linking up! Don’t think we see Praet back whilst Brendan is here unfortunately.

That’s the idea, he would mirror what KDH does on the left by linking up with RB & RW or drop into a 2 shield if play is taken down the opposite wing to cover gaps.

This is all on that particular formation I guess, we then have the same issue with him if we adopt a different way, as in would he be better than Youri in a st8 2 with Ndidi - no - would he be better than KDH 🤷‍♂️
There was some beef about the way he left but end of the day I’d imagine most players have knocked on their managers door wanting answers it gets heated but gloss’d over they are professionals not kids in a school ground.
He is contracted to us, we pay his wage if we say he has to come back he’ll come back and play I’d imagine

Saying that I do like the idea of picking up the next young Youri.

....I would suspect that he will not be replaced (Youri)!!!

I think how Rodgers sees it, will be that Wilf and KDH are the 2 in a 4-2-3-1, where Maddison is the #10 and with the returning players in our backline, we will be playing a highline and condense the pitch, allowing support to the striker and not getting overran in midfield.

I’ve got no issues with going into next midfield with centre midfield options of Ndidi, KDH, Maddison, Praet, Soumare & Hamza.

reinvest the Tielemans money on a right winger, Vestegaard, Bertrand and Castagne can all go too to fund a centre back and full back.

Get him back and sell Soumare. Soumare was suppose to be an upgrade but has been such a flop!

....it is hard to understand why he has been so poor!!!

A language problem would have been anticipated prior to him coming here, Tielemans and the Belgian contingent would no doubt speak French. Rodgers speaks several languages to some extent, so instructions would not be so difficult to impart. On the pitch it is as if the highest level he has ever played was on the local park, too slow on the ball, people running past him and him not reacting or knowing what to do. Whoever this player is, he is not the one we brought to this club.

Because we have tried to play him in a role he doesn't and has never played before.
