FosseSpark Posted 30 July 2022 Posted 30 July 2022 If it happens then Tielemans, Fofana, Schmeichel, Rodgers will fall like a house of cards a little like O'Neill Heskey Lennon etc after the Sunderland peak. Obviously don't want that to happen but we have left ourselves open to it one way or another by how we have acted/been forced to act in the transfer window. Obvs the commitment to stadium complex development and king powers fortunes are interlinked to our budget but can't help thinking people would have more tolerance if they could see progress on the stadium rev front similar to how arsenal and Tottenham understood their limitations when their stadiums were being built.

Also, they’ve not shown (neither has Eddie Howe) rhat they are capable of being consistent enough to finish in the European places. 1

Doesn't matter how much he wants to play for spurs or Newcastle or Sunderland or Middlesbrough or how much they bid, he goes only when we say so. Or if the player hands in a transfer request to force a move.
Bordersfox Posted 30 July 2022 Posted 30 July 2022 Hate to be that guy but before I ruin my bacon sandwich can someone enlighten me as to whether this thread is hot for an actual reason or its several pages of the usual hand wringing bullsh1t?

They play a 343, and while I think he's capable of being an 8 in a 433 or 4141, this is a step too far. It's also pointless to think about because Spurs have stopped chasing him because of his presumed pricetag

It's that he's going to a club that will be buying in talent season after season. He knows that injuries can cut his career short too, so best to capitalise now when he can. Hopefully he’s thinking about the World Cup squad more than anything at the moment. Leaving a team where he’s loved and has been in arguably his best form yet; for a team and city where he’ll have to bed in, especially with a little one; it’s a huge gamble.

And what use is £60m paid over 5 years good for us we lose our best player and don’t have enough to sign anyone, which is why we demanded £80m all upfront when we sold Maguire… It’s how pretty much all transfers are conducted. Buying clubs normally pay the fee over the length of the contract signed. It’s how the club writes off the value of the player over time, for accounting purposes. it works both ways, so LCFC do the same when buying. If Maddison is sold (any player really), the fee is staggered over years. And btw, “up front” simply means that part of a fee which isn’t covered by clauses and add-ons. Leicester did not receive £80 million for Maguire in one lump sum, like in Championship Manager That fee was also staggered

South Shire Fox Posted 30 July 2022 Posted 30 July 2022 If this was Spurs or any other top 4 side then id be worried that he’d become unsettled and force the move. Newcastle, not a chance

Putting those two players into the side they have doesnt get you anywhere near top 8. They need a massive upgrade on Willock, Almiron, Targett, Lascelles/ Schär, Wood before they can think about anything.

The media profile of NUFC will give Maddison a boost, as well as more money

He's proven when he's fit and gets a run of games, he will score goals at this level. Even Chris Wood scored plenty for Burnley (I know he struggled since his move). West Ham have broke into the Top 7 2 years on the spin without a recognised striker so that's not going to be thing that hold Newcastle back. Completely agree that top 6/7 is silly as they're definitely riding a wave which is surely likely to stop at some point and then it'll be a grind for them. 1

All players do is inform the club, normally involving the agent, that they want a move. 1
ian__marshall Posted 30 July 2022 Posted 30 July 2022 As good a player as Maddison is (and I do rate him) if any club offers silly money then he has to go in my view. That's our business model and without it we end up in the kind of situation we've been faced with so far this summer. Can't have it both ways until we find other means of boosting our commercial revenue. We'll survive. 2
EnderbyFox Posted 30 July 2022 Posted 30 July 2022 Reject any bid, sell him this close to the start of the season and we will be absolutely fleeced trying to panic & find a replacement
matty98 Posted 30 July 2022 Posted 30 July 2022 I'd be surprised if he was actually interested in going to Newcastle, comes across as being far more ambitious than that 2

FOXSE Posted 30 July 2022 Posted 30 July 2022 Realistically, this season, Newcastle are hoping to finish above us. So trying to destabilise us makes sense... 1
