To be fair if he wants a new contract and pay rise then he'll have to be sold because we can't afford to improve his contract any further.

He is being offered a new contract, and it isn’t peanuts

Bigger club based on what sorry? last relevant trophy they won was 1955.

Granted, they've got money now but its not going to be as easy as Chelsea or Man City had it. i'll go out on a limb and say they wont win anything for at least 10 years. If not longer.

1968 Fairs (UEFA) Cup was their last major honour.

I would say now that they have the filthy lucre they will win something well within the next 10 years.

I would be devastated if Maddison leaves now but I'm genuinely worried as the 'root of all evil' always seems to win the day in these scenarios.

I honestly don’t know how your mind works. And with the usual sense of foreboding, I’ll bite,,

I believe Maddison is one of the club’s biggest earners on allegedly 110k  week. That’s as his base salary. Add ons etc possibly take that up considerably.  That’s a lot of money for a club the size of Leicester. Nearly Half a million pounds per month. And it’s until 2024.
So, given everything we’ve been reading over the summer about the club not having a pot to piss in, resulting in us making no signings at all AND seemingly finding it impossible to sell our rubbish on (like Amartey), you’d now look to enter negotiations with Maddison to INCREASE his salary still further on the back of another club making a bid for him, allegedly, possibly driven to some extent by his agent.

The….mind….. boggles….

How’s this for a novel idea. DONT give him anymore money, don’t accept any offers and get him playing the football he’s being paid to play? He seems happy enough?…..

As per you've jumped to something I've not actually said and gone in to a weird rant, I've simply said I can see why the club would do it.

We are already committed to 110k/week on him for the next two or three years.  Adding 25/30k a week to that and extending it for 2025/2027 isn’t going to make a great deal of difference.  it’s a combination of numbers of players and wages.  How many are we going to have to leave out of the PL squad if we can’t move anyone on?  The club won’t want players just hanging around without the motivation of competing for a squad place.

Bringing players in isn’t just about their salary and FFP.  We don’t want to have a papy mendy scenario from last season come the end of august.

Only reason I can think of is even considering this is that his hip has the potential to hold him back. Didn’t seem to be an issue the end of the season but just a thought.

He'll have a better profile at Newcastle unfortunately.

I bet if he moved to Newcastle he'd be in the next England squad.

I bet he wouldn`t!

If it were that easy we would be sponsoring the toilet flush handles for £50 million a season and have no issue with ffp.

Who said it was easy? We're talking about the now richest club in the world being able to do something. Something the former richest club in the league has been doing.

It’s probably wise to forget all this “he loves the club” and “why would he move” talk, which doesn’t really hold credibility.

Also important to accept that buying clubs always make a low offer first. It’s not “embarrassing”, it’s sound procedure and helps unsettle the player. Buyers bid low, sellers demand high. The truth is a compromise.

Newcastle would only bid if they thought the player was interested and they would know that from talking with Maddison’s agent.

Absolutely true though to suspect that Maddison and his agent will use this to bolster contract talks, so there is some potential good news.

Nevertheless, a move to Newcastle holds the prospect of a boost in wages, a huge signing-on fee, money for the agent and the chance of playing for a club with an arguably bigger media profile…..please note the word “media”.

A fee of £60 million, paid over 4-5 years depending on the contract signed, is realistic, given current trends. And no one can rule out the import of Rodgers having to sell first. It is a truism in football that other clubs are only interested in your best players, not the ones you want to discard.

More to run on this story, with a move likely not probable and the potential for Maddison to land a better contract.

Eh? Surely if a move is likely then it is probable?

I think you could be surprised if that is your take. I see them comfortably in top 8 by the end of the season

So you’re saying a side with Chris Wood up front will out do one of;

Us

West Ham

Arsenal

Tottenham….

Absolutely not. Newcastle are a work in progress. And Madders going there won’t change anything. They’ve got to rebuild the club from the bottom up first before they start challenging for the top 8.

Newcastle will be comfortably mid table.

Would you change jobs if you were offered a 100% pay rise?

....it depends if money is all I crave in my life!!!

There may be a chance for an increase in salary for Maddison here, a chance to lead the team and he can see further down the line we have the possibility of being a fixture in the top 6. If you are happy with what you do and love the environment that you are in, then money does not become everything.

I honestly don't know what's more insulting.

The absurdly low offer or the fact it came from ****ing NEWCASTLE.

Well it is definitely the combo, Newcastle can expect to pay 70+ for him, otherwise go and shop at Lidl not harrods

Newcastle's owners probably have that sort of cash down the back of their sofas.

Welcome to the new world.

Like it or not, Newcastle will probably break the top four long before we do.

They're desperately searching for their Robinho moment aren't they but they'll get there eventually. Their wealth is absurd, if they've any business acumen they'll get to where Man City are eventually.

40 is miles off though and if Madders had any sense he'd be staying here in the short term.

I be disappointing if Maddison joins Newcastle

I rather take a lower fee from the so called top 6

Sends wrong message out if players are ready to join Newcastle

We are bigger than Newcastle as a club

I honestly think they wont be far off, they dont have the squad depth (yet) but their first XI is a top half team assuming its Wilson up top instead of Wood. Their isnt a huge amount between us, West Ham, Arsenal and their first team in a race for 6th if you will. Different story if they have injuries of course.

If we sold him we are completely ****ed in less its 80 million or over we have got to get these valuable players on long contracts right now imagine losing him to Newcastle wow

Reading the Newcastle forum there’s a balance of reasonable takes and then there are people saying 40 million plus Dubravka. Apparently that would be a great deal for us

Theyre still using wheelie bins filled with ice water as "hydrotherapy" pools

Their training ground is in a right state. They're gonna apparently try and build a temporary new building containing some stuff that isn't from the 80s next year.

Exciting times at Newcastle 😂
