We had a few friends over last weekend, and two of them are real conspiracy theorists. They often send me things to check out, which I usually just glance at and shrug off, though they're utterly convinced these theories are true. As the evening went on and the drinks kept flowing, they started to share their views on what they think is really happening in the world today, so we decided to humor them. Here’s the gist of what they believe (I'm sure you've heard it all before).

A clandestine elite, characterised by psychopathic tendencies, has infiltrated critical sectors of global governance, including medicine, science, defense, finance, and media. This group is orchestrating a deliberate dismantling of existing social structures through an "Imposition and Acquiescence Protocol," which aims to exert total control over the human population. Key political figures, such as Starmer, Trudeau, Barnier, and Putin, are seen as pawns or "stooges" who follow directives from organisations like the WEF, WFO and WHO (who ultimately get there instuctions from pwerful elites who operate in the shadows).

The agenda includes triggering a planned World War III, which would lead to a catastrophic collapse of societal systems, setting the stage for a "Great Reset." This reset, heavily influenced by tech moguls like Elon Musk and Bill Gates, envisions a world governed by technocrats. In this new order, a universal basic income would be implemented, compelling compliance from the populace to receive support. As artificial intelligence becomes integrated into every aspect of business, traditional jobs will become obsolete, leaving individuals with no choice but to conform to the new system or risk receiving nothing.

Increased taxes often disproportionately affect the middle class, pushing them closer to the working class and widening the gap between the wealthy and everyone else. As taxes rise, the financial burden can limit disposable income for middle-class families, making it harder for them to maintain their standard of living. This shift can lead to a reduction in economic mobility, as those in the middle class find it increasingly difficult to save, invest, or afford education and healthcare. Consequently, the divide between the affluent and the rest of the population continues to grow, exacerbating social and economic inequalities.

Privatisation has led to a situation where the government no longer owns essential services or assets, making society overly dependent on private entities and foreign countries for basic needs.  Our reliance on other countries will create vulnerabilities, especially in planned times of crisis, where a catastrophic event might expose the fragility of such dependencies.

The act of allowing migrants into the country is a deliberate strategy to dilute national identity and create civil unrest, causing divisions among citizens.  The government are powerless to stop migration as it's part of the "Elites Agenda".

The same is happening in the USA, suggesting a coordinated effort by powerful elites to dismantle western society.

They believe that people blame their leaders for these issues, but they believe it's part of a larger, orchestrated plan rather than merely a result of poor governance.

They feel people who raise issues or question the mainstream perspective are frequently accused of spreading misinformation, even if they're simply voicing concerns.  Those who challenge the system publicly can face backlash, and the mainstream media may portray them as problematic figures or even criminals, effectively silencing their perspectives.  They gave examples of Andrew Tate, Russell Brand, Tommy Robinson and Katie Hopkins as individuals who, having spoken out, encountered significant criticism and scrutiny, which you see as attempts to discredit or neutralise their influence.

One got quite animated about the vaccine and is adament that an increase in heart attacks and cancers, might not be entirely natural occurrences but could be part of a larger, deliberate plan to reduce population numbers, and the impending large-scale conflict, potentially even World War III, might be part of this hypothetical agenda, furthering this depopulation effort.

All this is done very slowly and systematically, so people believe things are random, where in reality everything is orchestrated piece by piece.  These elites control the flow of information to the public, shaping the narrative so that the majority end up sharing the same thoughts and perspectives, whilst the others are declared nut-jobs!

There was probably more, but I was 2 bottles of red in and too inebriated to remember (or care).  They’re genuinely lovely people, and we had a debate but didn't fall out over any of it.  It’s fascinating how people can have such outlandish views about the world though.

I'm open to much of that being true, or a variant of it. I think fluoridating water (when fluoride predominantly works topically and not systemically, where it's actually a toxin) is also a part of it, but that's another debate.

I think he’s chooses his guests based on how alarmist a headline he can make out of them. Not 100% of his interviews are like this I really enjoyed his interviews with Ramit Sethi and Guy Raz but at least 50% of it is pure bullshit.

A few years ago I'd have agreed, until the pentagon released the videos from the Navy, witnessed by pilots, recorded by their onboard systems and admitted they remain unidentified to this day. There has been a steady drip feed of information over the last few years, which is odd consdiering the US used to say nothing!

It's interesting when you dig into it, little green men? Advanced tech? It's something.

It feels as though something is potentially going to happen which could mean they lose their grip on it all.

In the last week at a White House press conference, the rep speaking confirmed there had been an incursion above Langley AFB of “drones” which were not considered a threat. On that basis, they can’t be from Russia or China. They’re seemingly allowing drones to fly above somewhere that I’d assume is highly guarded, which seems odd because I’d bet a drone hobbyist wouldn’t be afforded the luxury of a) getting their drone back in more than a thousand pieces and b) avoiding incarceration.

It's against Federal law to shoot them down apparently, snooping by eg Russia or China isn't enough they need to be a physical threat.

I suppose they were able to fire missiles at balloons last year as they posed a threat to commercial airliners. I’m sure if they wanted to shoot them down they’d have found a reason :D

Fluoride is not added by all water authorities. Because it can strengthen and re-mineralise damaged enamel, making it more resistant to decay, it may be added to public drinking water and also toothpaste and mouthwash - and nutjobs in the USA in particular think that this is an attempt to stupify or depopulate. Dumbing down? the USA population? Really? Actually, conspiracy nuts in America have fumed for decades over state fluoridation, attributing it to everything from government mind control to a communist plot.

Toxicity is a measure of a substance's potential to cause harm to biological organisms and is a function of such factors as exposure, dose, pathway and chemical composition. Contrary to what you might hear, fluoride is a mineral that occurs in nature and is also naturally present in water, including our food. The toxic dose of fluoride varies by weight, but is typically estimated to be 5–10 mg/kg. Where additions are made it is less than 0.1 ppm which has to be the most ineffectual and pointless supposed conspiracy directed at the public next to chemtrails. The matchday threads are far more harmful to your health so no need for anyone to get their pineal gland in a twist.

Yeah, the problem with that is that these people invariably aren't interested to listening to you, nor any objective evidence to the contrary. They call that 'free thinking' - because evidently a dumb video on Rumble told them what to think about subjects that they have absolutely no knowledge about whatsoever.

The big problem with answers like this is...

Once you take away the research and the figures you are left with peer reviewed science.  Essentially the "discussion" comes down to "I dont trust scientists and experts because bigpharma, wef,who etc etc".  Once the flerfers and chemtrail crowd deny what they can see with their own eyes you've lost.

A genuine conversation with a chemtrailer

Me: what happens to the temperature if you go very high up, say mount everest?

Chemtrailer:  It gets cold

Me: what happens when you go outside on a  cold winters morning and breathe out

CT: You can see your breath

Me: Yep, water vapour.

CT: Yep

Me: Do you think that burning Hydrocarbons - jetfuel - in oxygen - air - creates amongst other gasses carbon dioxide and water vapour

CT: no no you're not getting me like that

That's why science-based conspiracy theories are crap and easy to disprove, but the motives behind others that you can't disprove in such a way are interesting (like why does it seem every government in the western world determined to make their countries and people poorer etc... what's the motivation to consistently make bad decisions that seemingly ruin their economies?)

But those are more opinion than conspiracy theory.  The one you cite depends on a definition of richer/poorer.  Monetary or educationally or health based. Millionaire working 7 days  week or on the breadline laying on a beach?

Chemtrail conspiracy believer: "Really? You show people "making contrails" (condensation from breath). Let me ask you... If I make a contrail on a cold day, and I keep walking, if I turn around, will I see that condensation suspended in the air for miles behind me? NO."

Me: "You'll find the explanation may well be because the exhalation from your lungs during your walk is not equivalent or analogous to a large turbofan jet engine rated up to 115,000 lbs of thrust, continually burning a hydrocarbon fuel at 1,100°C and 4 litres per second, emitting a stream of 600°C superheated exhaust in an ambient ice saturated environment < -60°C whilst travelling at speeds up to and occasionally in excess of 500 knots."

You'll honestly find that the reason that many people believe the latter is rooted in the former.

im sorry but British conspiracy theorists have nothing on the American ones. Ours are so much better over here.

some recent ones I’ve heard:

The sun is no longer the sun. And you can tell this by the fact that sunflowers usually turn towards the sun and now they no longer do. What we think to the sun is actually a giant LED light made by China.

Barack Obama used to be a woman and Michelle Obama used to be a man.

Bill Clinton was the anti-Christ

Barak Obama was the anti-Christ

Joe Biden was the Anti-Christ

Jury is still out of Kamala Harris - have to wait to see if she is elected first. If she is, then she probably will be the Anti-Christ

My temptation is to ask more open ended questions to get them to think about it more.

- is it all jet planes or just some?

- have you ever tracked a plane which you can see making these trails, what airlines are they from?

- how do they get loaded up with these chemicals at the airport? Are the ground staff in on the secret too, as presumably they are loading in the chemicals.

Usually you find that they have not thought about their theory in detail. However if The Good Liars on YouTube is anything to go by, logic and critical thought are two things that will never work with these people

I thought the lyrics were -

Brother Pele's in the back, sweet Zina's in the front
Cruising down the freeway in the hot, hot sun
Suddenly, red-blue lights flash us from behind
Loud voice booming, "Please step out onto the line"
Pele preach words of comfort, Zina just hides her eyes
Policeman taps his shades, "Is that a Chevy '69?"
