Leiecester 59% possession.

Villa to score from a corner late in the first half to equalise against a dominant Leiecester.

Leicester push for a winner all second half.  In the 89th minute (bucking the trend of goals being scored in time added on), Villa score a deflected goal as Leicester are adapting to a change of shape following an 86th minute tactical substitution.

Soyuncu racks up more passes than any other player.

This will be our weekend team.  How does Rodgers rest Tielemans and KDH.

He really doesn't trust Choudhury.   Maybe Brunt or Braybrooke should get a game

Where is Soumare?? We could really do with another midfielder at the minute!

Think he was ill/Injured but seems to have been kept relatively quiet from Brendan, don't think it bodes particularly well for his future.

Would love to see him get a few run of games end of the season and have something to build on next season. hopefully if we look to sell we can recoup around what we paid.

Would love to see us give a couple from the Under 23’s a chance, might give me some enthusiasm,  but with the PL prize money around a million a place I can’t see it happening.

 Barnes                    Lookman

    Madivadua    Maddison

        Soumare/Mendy

Thomas Amartey Fofana Castagne

                  Kasper

Might as well start giving a few u23s minutes to help their development and get them in the shop window for loans

Wanya Marcal - Madivadua has impressed me every single time I've seen him play for the u23's, also thought he looked decent when he had a cameo against Watford in the cup.

Would love to see him get a few minutes again this season as well as Popov and maybe 1 or 2 others.

...would love to see Popov ahead of Maddison in the 4-2-3-1!!!

Maddison has gain some form and now being stifled as an Inside Right. If we can take the greedy tendency away from Maswanhise then he could also be trusted with 10 minutes here and there.

17. Hes definitely a prospect and physically developed but it may be a season or two yet before he's with the 1st team. Not even trained with them yet.

Popov?  Do we need to Rent a ghost for a striker this season? :P  (Yes, I'm getting old, dammit :P )

I think this is extremely accurate apart from one bit.

“Leicester will sit deep and get more and more defensive in the second half inviting maximum pressure whilst they await the inevitable goal”

That's crazy, he certainly looks older.

Ah if that's the case then your probably right, do you think we will see Braybrooke this season? he's made the bench quite a few times but not made his debut yet.

Granted he is still very young like Popov and does seem quite less developed physically than a few others, not that it matters as much nowadays, he seems to be a step ahead everyone else similar to Youri in the way he plays which makes up for the physical prowess they lack I guess.

Pre-match Press Conference vs Aston Villa

Ten Hag?

“In terms of the job he has done at Ajax, it’s been admirable. He will be excited to be coming to the PL. It’s a big challenge but a great challenge. It’s another fantastic coach coming into the league.”

Ten Hag job similar to job at Liverpool?

“It takes time and patience. At Liverpool, I was part of the journey of where they wanted to get to. I was 39. They were in eighth, we looked to build. The first two years were fantastic, the third year was a challenge. Jurgen then came in. You need to invest and they invested in the right type of players. Erik will need that time to impose his style and philosophy, and then you need players to come in to take that philosophy on. Clearly he’s an outstanding coach and he will prove that.”

Vardy?

“He’s trained with the squad so hopefully he will be back in tomorrow. It’s just about availability. We’ll see the after effects in his knee, but hopefully he can play some part.”

Impact of Roma game on team selection v Villa?

“None at all. There are supporters travelling up and down the country, away at Newcastle and Everton, and we have to pick a team to win the game. My thinking is always on the next game and that is Aston Villa. We’ll play a team that can get a good result. We’ve got a good recovery period before Thursday.”

Targets?

“If we finish top 10 and get to a final of European competition, it would be one of my best seasons as a manager. Given the injuries and our budget and what we’ve come up against, that would be really good.”

Late goals?

“It’s been disappointing in terms of the results. We need more determination and luck, particularly with the Everton goal. But we need more determination. I was really pleased with the performance level, the rhythm in our football. We just demand more in the final third of the pitch. Our building through the pitch and our movement, I’ve been happy with.”

Gerrard at Villa?

“It takes time. Steven coming in this season, it’s a case of assessing the players, what type of characters he has in there. It’s not too dissimilar to when I came in here, seeing what you’re working with under pressure. He will have seen what the mentality is in raining, and what they’re like in games. With the ambition at Villa, they want to challenge for European football, and what they do in the summer could allow them to do that. Knowing Steven, he will be enjoying the challenge of the Premier League as a manager.”

Barnes up to 20 goals and 20 assists?

“We play an offensive game and the players at the top end should benefit from that. He’s continuing with his development.”

Vardy boost?

“It’s clearly very important for us. He still has the mindset to compete and show his qualities. He’s a big boost for us and we look forward to seeing him on the pitch at some point on Saturday.”

“Knowing Jamie’s qualities, it’s the intensity he brings to the game, the movement, the confidence. It gives the team a huge boost. We’ve missed him a lot, but hopefully he’s back for a really important period.

“Players like that are important. It’s difficult when they’re working with medical teams, because they’re working at different times. But he has an aura when he’s in the squad.”

Exciting times?

“You want to be challenging through to the end of the season. You don’t want your season to drift. We have always been able to do that here. It creates a mentality and it creates a mindset around the club.”

Difficult to concentrate when Roma on horizon?

“It’s really easy. Naturally I understand why people would look to that after the PSV game. As a manager, you just look to the next game. I watched their game against Napoli on Monday but apart from that, the focus has been on Everton, and now Villa. Once that’s done, we’ll look to Roma. The players know the importance of every game.”

Other injuries?

“It’s about assessing and managing the players who have been coming back. It’s been a heavy schedule so we have to be mindful. You can see the cohesion of the team, even with the changes. Soumare is still out, he’s outside the team with personal issues.”

KDH and Tielemans keep going?

“Kiernan is the same (a rhythm player). We’re limited in that area in terms of the squad, so it shows where we are at as a squad that they have to keep playing. They recover very well. When you see them play, it doesn’t take too much away from them. Kiernan’s drive and Youri’s quality is still there. They’re looking strong and focused.”

What needs to improve?

“It’s that little bit in the final third. It’s about that last pass to capitalise on our superiority in the game. How we’re building through the pitches has been really clean. We need to be a bit more ruthless, and that extra bit of determination to see the game through. I’ve really enjoyed seeing the confidence back in the team over the past three games.”

Interesting then that he might go strong - or it could be mind games. Hoping he manages Evans in particular.

I would say “pick a team that can get a good result” wouldn’t necessarily mean strong. It’s one of their cliches isn’t it. There will be changes but not as many as the last two games.

Me neither. I wouldn’t be surprised if he played tielemans though as he seems to thrive on match play.  Rather he didn’t though. Likewise he may also play Ricardo or castagne for game time. The front three will press well.
