lol

With the current playing squad, for any fairly competent manager, it should be a bare minimum achievement.

The same could be said for most of the teams in the Premier League. But most of those teams have had an empty trophy cabinet since the Premier League started.

But then I’d ask why did no one else do as well with this squad ? (Puel)

Not fairly competent!

Because whether people acknowledge it or not, Rodgers has improved our players immensely to get themselves into the position of contesting for the Champions League.

No one was looking at our squad when Puel joined and felt we were top four contenders

We went 2 up top and didn't offer a huge amount of creativity yesterday.

Still offered more than previously 1 striker hit the post and was inches away from an open goal twice and then the other striker scored. It's certainly not the answer to all our problems but Daka and Iheanacho work much more efficiently in a pair, Vardy is Vardy but even he barely had a sniff vs Roma on his own.

No chance we go two up top in Rome.

Has he improved Barnes? Thomas? Who has he improved?

From the point of when Puel departed, he’s improved numerous players and in the process given Evans and Vardy new leases of life.

Kelechi didn’t even register with Puel for example. His goal involvement is superb now. Justin, Thomas and Barnes have all been linked with England call ups. Vardy finally won a golden boot. Lookman and Maddison this season are having their best ever goalscoring seasons. Soyuncu was on the scrap heap but this summer we should get our money back on him. Chilwell and Maguire were both sold for significant sums of money after being coached by Rodgers. Chilwell in particular pushed on.

You can criticise Rodgers plenty tactically. But his career including Leicester is littered with examples of him improving players and making clubs significant sums of money when selling those players.

Disagree.

Needs a magic wand to improve most of the rubbish he has signed. Majority of the best players in the squad, were already here.

He’s a bounder.

So nervous for this already!

Especially with KDH and Maddison being injury doubts.

I'm hoping Brendan is trying it on with Mourinho as I'm sure he mentioned these 2 before the first game and he knows they make us tick

You're not meant to play weakened teams in the league, I'm sure the comments about KDH and Maddison are just incase the league protest. If also keeps Roma guessing about our line up too. Some of you take everything so literally.

When Brendan got here, Thomas was an unremarkable player in the youth team, he's since become a 1st team regular and an FA Cup winner. I'd say he's improved.

Yeah, and Roma look shattered after 60 mins on Thursday. It’s one pattern which has been evident in our favour during the latter part of the European run. PSV were cooked come 60 mins in the Netherlands and Rennes had ran of steam until a goal with a bit of fortune.

Not enough mentioned about this. I was pretty much front row and noticed at about 70 mins when there was a sub break the Roma defenders looked completely shot. Dripping with sweat and gasping for air. So agree with you here that if we can hold out then we stand our best chance in the last 20 minutes or so.

Strange as i always through Italian clubs were renowned for their conditioning.

I suppose one positive for Thursday is that we know we will get a certain amount of possession...it's not that long ago that an English club in Europe might not expect to get a touch and hope for that one break away....of course doing anything with that possession other than conceding corners is another question altogether

If we get to 60 mins in a favourable position, I think we will do it. The first twenty minutes are going to be so important

I don't disagree but the problem is that in our 26 away games so far this season we've conceded a goal in the first hour 21 times. In fact, in 14 of the last 18 away games we've conceded a goal within 35 minutes, including conceding within the first 20 minutes on 8 occasions. We have a huge problem staying tight early on in away games, which probably goes a long way to explaining why we've won so few of them this season.

Ah but in 100% of the Europa conference League ties we have played away following a home draw, we've won.

What a stat!

In fact EVERY single time we've drawn in the competition, we've gone on to win the following game! Ruthless!

Sadly I agree. I'm not a fan of 3 at the back because we've not usually got the personnel to play it correctly.

I don't think we've ever lost a game when the back 3 has been Fofana, Evans and Soyuncu it's only happen 5 or 6 times from memory because of injuries. I think its the way to go on Thursday without a CDM because it would give us our 3 first choice CB's and Ricardo and JJ could attack more. We could also get Vardy and Iheanacho on the pitch at the same time.
