It would be in our best interest if we showed our love and support as opposed to booing our own goalkeeper as some fans did yesterday in the stadium. It's in nobody's interest to support Ward. He should not be here. Either play Stolarcyzk or if he's not quite fit then play then promote Harry French or Stevie Bausor from the academy. 6
adam Posted 23 December 2024 Posted 23 December 2024 At least we will get some more danny ward pictures like above. They will bring a slight bit of Christmas cheer after our 6 nil loss.
Chelmofox Posted 23 December 2024 Posted 23 December 2024 You just know that Ward never thought he would play PL football again. I bet he was as gobsmacked as everyone when he was told to find his gloves half time against Newcastle. And you just know that on Wednesday he will polish of the most expensive Turkey you can buy, sink about 3 bottles of expensive plonk, have a 6 pack of Stella and 2 christmas puddings, and hit the sack at about 3am after binging on some Netflix on his 130inch OLED tv. Then he gets the call from Ruud Thursday morning, telling him Mads missus demanded action all night and he's pulled the other bollock, 'so get yeeer best gloves on...'.

Popular Post The Doctor Posted 23 December 2024 Popular Post Posted 23 December 2024 the xG stats are just hilariously bad. https://fbref.com/en/comps/9/keepersadv/Premier-League-Stats Mads - prevented 5.8 goals more than expected, the highest in the division and the highest on a per 90 basis than any keeper who's played more than 3 games. Ward - 5th worst in the division, conceded 3.1 more than expected in just 1.5 games, would be miles out in front on a per 90 basis if he weren't excluded due to the tiny sample size of games he's had. 6
The Doctor Posted 23 December 2024 Posted 23 December 2024 (edited) honestly it's unfathomably bad that he's chucking in 2 more goals per game than the average keeper, like **** me, with him in goal you have to score 3 just to have a chance of a draw. Edited 23 December 2024 by The Doctor
Muzzy_no7 Posted 23 December 2024 Posted 23 December 2024 Worse than Kevin Pressman, Rab Douglas, Arphexhad, Weale, Logan. The list goes on. 2

He never looked comfortable, making an early error with the ball at his feet and, once the first goal went under an arm, his day was not going to get any better. The goalkeeper has enjoyed an impressive career but a lack of regular football has affected him, leaving his reactions slow and confidence short. It cannot have helped the Wales international that his own supporters booed him and then sarcastically applauded when he did manage a simple save or to intercept an aimless ball over the top. Supporters have a right to express their views on the team’s performance but it must have hurt Ward to suffer such targeted criticism from those supposedly hoping he would save the next shot. He performed poorly, but there needs to be some recognition that footballers are human beings. I wonder if this journo would have the same sentiment if Ward played for whoever they support. I don't think we're a particularly aggressive / toxic fanbase in the stands, if anything quite placid. Paying supporters getting a bit pissed off that an out of shape goalkeeper who's done nothing but booze and effectively play dodgeball for the past 6(!) years is in nets doesn't warrant a Be Kind lecture. It's not an understatement to say yesterday's game was huge in terms of the trajectory of the club and we chose to play it with our feet tied together. 3

I remember when Mark Grew came in for a few games when Mark Wallington was out. Just a relief when Wallington was back. Incredible the long contract Ward was given plus the outrageous fee we paid

However, what other opportunity do fans get to show their emotions and frustration at the situation ? It clearly doesn't help Ward (and JJ) by getting personal but it's the team that we care about and his inclusion just makes a bad situation worse. They are grown up, highly paid professional footballers and criticism comes with the territory. It does feel that our crowd is slowly getting a backbone and if yesterday is the start then our players (not just Ward) will be getting lambasted even more if they continue to put in that level of performance. Sort it out Ruud, the honeymoon is over
Wymsey Posted 23 December 2024 Posted 23 December 2024 Wales must've had even poorer goalkeepers when he played over 40 times for them.
HankMarvin Posted 23 December 2024 Posted 23 December 2024 (edited) Let’s be honest, If Mads ain’t fit it’s going to be ward in goal against Liverpool. To stick a young keeper in could ruin their confidence/career. We are on course to ship 80 plus goals this season and that’s been with a good goalkeeper for 14 games. This team has relegation written all over it. In the last 10 seasons only 4 teams have conceded more. Sheffield united 104 Luton 85 last season Norwich 84 20/21 Fulham 81 18/19 Hull 80 16/17 Something has to drastically change in January and it’s not just the Goalkeeper Edited 23 December 2024 by HankMarvin 1

Iversen isn’t that much better than Ward. Iversen looked great at Preston but he was average at Stoke, with a defence in front of him that could protect him. What’s your opinion on Ward from a Wales perspective? For balance, he was sensational in the 2-2 Everton game. We face so many shots and he’s a great shot stopper. I’d be happy with him punting it 50 yards up the pitch, if he can actually make saves.

Im not going to clap and show love to the PM when hes doing a shit job am I as others have said and even the evidence he shouldnt be starting, the damage is done and still being done, from RVN's comments, hes not seem the shambles of Ward and his 22/23 season best interest, yeah we are playing to watch him make mistakes, hes still being paid £50+k a week......but lets cheer him 1

Gamble92 Posted 23 December 2024 Posted 23 December 2024 What I don't get is the clubs stance on it all. Player tells you he won't leave because his wages won't be matched anywhere else. Tell him he will rot and ruin (what's left of) his career then. Give him something to think about. Okay accept your 40k or whatever but let him know it's going to cost him any kind of move after because he'll be playing with u21s for years. As it stands he's a no.2 for a Premier League club that gets called upon as and when and collects a lovely wage for it. Another example of how clueless everyone at the club is. 2

RedSoxUK Posted 23 December 2024 Posted 23 December 2024 Danny Ward is the luckiest man alive. He's likely the highest paid third choice goalkeeper, probably of all time, while also being the worst. He's effectively won the lottery on the back of a few cup games under brodge and a year of trying for Huddersfield, years ago. He honestly shouldn't even be available to select, Rudkin should have made that clear to him last season. He's had 3 windows to shift him and failed, unsurprisingly. It's so unfortunate we've had to put up with Ward for this long. So again, we really don't have to support him and we certainly don't owe being nice to him. He hates us, his wife definitely hates us. So think logically, he's stealing a living on our wage bill. We genuinely should be making him miserable so he ****s off, but he won't, he's had the opportunities. He chose the easiest route in the world being a third choice GK, for the occasional few boos and an enormous salary. 2
SouthStandUpperTier Posted 23 December 2024 Posted 23 December 2024 We clearly can't play Ward anymore, as much for his own sake as our's. But I wouldn't give it to Iversen. Has to be Stolarczyk even if he's not quite 100%.
ashbyj Posted 23 December 2024 Posted 23 December 2024 Has any team in history ever toyed with the idea of fielding eleven outfield players?

ajthefox Posted 23 December 2024 Posted 23 December 2024 I don't really agree with booing him but I can understand it. I think Ruud to some extent has to defend Ward, especially if Stolarcyzk is unlikely to play on Thursday but RvN has to know now that he cannot play Ward again and he will very quickly lose confidence of the fan base if he does so. I also think that the club are primarily to blame. We all know Ward isn't good enough, we've seen more than enough to know that. As such, expecting anything other than below standard keeping from him is madness and it is more the fault of the club that we are in this position. 1
