I don't think it'll be that but it's worth best part of an extra £15m to us, which if you consider we've also earnt around £15-20m from Europe last season it's a good amount of revenue that we will massively need as we once again try and push things to the maximum.
RowlattsFox Posted 17 May 2022 Posted 17 May 2022 At least Chelsea have secured Champions League football which takes a bit of the importance of for them, although they'd still want to finish 3rd. They've been pretty poor at home so definitely think we can cause them problems. Kasper back in but otherwise unchanged for me, unless I've missed an injury.

I'd image Ward continues thursday and kasper back for last home game. They way BR said it sounded like it was an agreement with Wales/Ward to get games ahead of play off.

(Of course he wasn’t fit for norwich)

moore_94 Posted 17 May 2022 Posted 17 May 2022 (edited) Pre-match Press Conference vs Chelsea Kasper will play final 2 games, it was always planned for him to Papy Mendy should be back Ricardo will be assessed and is back in training May be an issue with Youri who had a clash on his knee Choudhury has a groin problem: "It’s his groin. He felt it the other day. He’s been a great squad player for us, probably trained more than anybody this year, even if you’ve not seen too much on the pitch. It’s just unfortunate." After saying the right things about Maddison, Rodgers returns to form with this little nugget. 1

Ric Flair Posted 17 May 2022 Posted 17 May 2022 If Tielemans is out, hopefully Braybrooke or Wanya Marca finally get a chance, even if from the bench. 4

He had the opportunity to have an academy player on the bench for the last game, and fail to bring them in. Probably trying to get the league position renumeration, to help in the summer, either that our he has to meet a certain criteria.

It's 'unfortunate' a 24 year old academy product hasn't featured during a period when we needed lots of rotation, yet still ran Youri and KDH to the ground. It's not 'unfortunate', Hamza clearly wasn't fancied or seen as good enough and that's football life. Its the sort of Rodgers nonsense that gets on my nerves. 1

Without Hamza and Youri though it would be stupid to not take a central midfielder of their ilk, I don't know at what point he would give such players a chance.

I completely agree, the problem is the disection after, if we win our last two and West Ham lose their last, we finish 2 points off Europe, which would make it 3 seasons in a row with those sort of 'just missed' margins.... Those sort of margins are down to mentality and coaching, it just makes the errors all the more frustrating, take a couple of goals from corners and the collapse against Tottenham out and we're in the Europa league! As for perception from new signings, whether we finish 8th or 14th we'll be seen by most young talents as a stepping stone, only in those top 7 places can you fight for someone who might want to stay long term, or someone with a bit more experience looking for their next challenge. FoxinNotts Posted 17 May 2022 Posted 17 May 2022 Don't really understand why it's being suggested to put in a youngster if Tielemans is injured. Surely we'd go to a more orthodox 4-3-3 with Mendy sitting and KDH and Maddison either side, with a front three of Marc, Vardy and Barnes. 1

He has a habit of perpetually leaving players out. Saying pushing Hamza to one side is 'unfortunate' is pathetic really. There was no opportunity for Hamza to shine. Soumare in a similar position. Plays him once, has a half decent but rusty game against Spurs, then we never see him again. These guys have no opportunity to build momentum. Yet Youri plays on regardless, even though he very likely won't be here next year. Edited 17 May 2022 by jamesp26 2 1

But is there not a good case for finishing 8th as UEFA will surely ban all Russian participation and would therefore need to invite other clubs to compete, in order to preseve the integrity of their three competitions? Just a thought! The 8th (fivethirtyeight) highest ranked English club is 23rd in the world. 100 or so clubs make the CL, EL and ECL groups. So on sporting merit, a strong argument can be made. The 8th highest ranked English club is Palace. Did I say something about sporting merit? It escapes my mind ...

He's simply not good enough and the only reason he's still at the club is that no one wanted him enough to pay real money for him? I'm sure there would be teams lining up for him after that. 4

Problem is one of Maddison/KDH have to play deeper in this formation, when they’re both much better further forward. We played this system against Roma in the 2nd leg and Maddison was pretty much non existent in the first half. But when we changed system in the second half and got him playing in the final third he was our best player. I think the Maddison-DM-KDH midfield 3 is unbalanced and won’t work as well as people think. It does have potential though and could be something Brendan will try.
