Wortho Posted 22 July 2022 Posted 22 July 2022 What would he go for realistically?? If it was £20-25m then why not… though I can’t see that
Sankey93 Posted 22 July 2022 Posted 22 July 2022 We won’t get 20m for him either. I’d say around 10/15 and that’s pushing it!

Without improving physically or being encouraged to do more in an attacking sense and utilise his obvious footballing ability, I don't see how he's anything other than a solid and unspectacular full back. Maybe if the manager actually let's him get into the other teams half on a more regular basis we might see a more exciting Thomas, the one that was putting in pinpoint crosses when he first came into the team and looked a genuinely exciting player. He needs two things at this age. He needs to take his strengths and get the maximum he can out of them and he needs to be playing regularly. As a footballer I think he looks a better player. Unfortunately, especially out wide, athleticism trumps ability more often than not. 3 hours ago, Ric Flair said: Yes that's my take on him too. None of us have any idea how his career is going to pan out. He only just turned 21 yet everyone’s opinions of Thomas are way too defined. 8

I hope he continues to develop and becomes the player we want him to be. Though I think he will find it harder to get the same amount of game time this season without Europe and Justin likely to return to full fitness. 2
lcfc sheff Posted 23 July 2022 Posted 23 July 2022 (edited) I’m a big fan of his… but it seems any excitement from his first few games in terms of his play style has gone. Is that because of the manager or was it just a flash in the pan? I would rather keep him over the likes of Bertrand, but if we were to sell both and sign a more athletic player which is something both of them lack then I’d be all for it. People saying he’s 21 but there’s certain traits I can already see won’t improve: Lack of pace, not particularly strong, one on one duels coming out worse especially against faster players. £20-25m in this market I think we should accept it, there is better options out there and I don’t see a time where he’ll be more valuable than now. I could be wrong and I hope I am and he turns into the second coming of Ashley Cole but I feel I’ve seen enough now. I must stress I’d rather Bertrand was sold but his value / wages make him a hard player to shake off. Edited 23 July 2022 by lcfc sheff

gerblod Posted 23 July 2022 Posted 23 July 2022 The only barrier stopping Luke Thomas from becoming an integral automatic choice is Rodgers. Thomas stepped up and performed, week-in week-out, to an exceptional standard. Then Bertrand turned up and Thomas was dropped - until Bertrand failed to do the job Thomas had been doing. Then Justin returned and, of course, everyone who sees only what they wish to see, saw pre-injury Justin. Reputations count more than reality. If I were Thomas I'd go. Maybe he thought he'd done enough to continue a steady progress to maturity. But nurturing and having faith in youth isn't the English way. Loyalty works both ways - it appears to have manifested solely on Thomas's part. 2 2

Muzzy_no7 Posted 1 September 2022 Posted 1 September 2022 Genuinely baffling that he’s still here and not doing his much needed time in the championship. 1

Popular Post gerblod Posted 3 September 2022 Popular Post Posted 3 September 2022 When he was first called on to play first-team football, he excelled - for half a season. Even then the miserable brigade were taking pot-shots at him because he wasn't Ashley Cole. You see your team crippled by injuries, but still coping yet you get into a mindset where those injured players become the answer to reclaiming the top six position. Fofana, Justin and Perez became the Christlike saviours. It never happened though. Because football is a team game. I'm not sure BR has caught on to that yet, because he's no idea how to positively motivate a team. He drops Thomas for Justin, instantly forgetting about the nature of a team - which works best when all its members are working together. That only happens when the figurehead, manager or key player, leads. Thomas doesn't need time in the Championship, he's swam in the Premier - where the knocks and lessons are far harder and more important. What he needs is time away from Rodgers' Toxic Foxes. The lessons he's learned from Rodgers is that, no matter how well you play, if your face don't fit then it's back to the scraps - early rounds Cup games. Rodgers is a fraud. He arrived at a club which had many gifted players and much potential and they responded to his character - the charm, the warmth and ease of communication. He was the very opposite of Puel. But his superficial qualities conceal significant faults, which are becoming more apparent as this crisis wears on. Unless someone acts decisively we could find ourselves in the Championship with a diaspora of the best players to our erstwhile Premier rivals. Then Thomas will get plenty of Championship experience, but it won't make him a better player. 5
