With the Brentford fixture fast approaching how do we see the team setting up?

I think Rodgers will use the tried and trusted 4-1-4-1 system and subject to one or maybe two possible transfers the team probably selects itself.

Kasper starting in goal

Full backs two out of Ricky P., Castagne and JJ. I think Brendan might prefer JJ on the left, thinking he offers a little more and links well with Barnes. That would be tough on Castagne who never lets us down.

Little Wes and Evans are certs at the heart of defence.

Ndidi is the cover in midfield breaking up play, with KDH or Barnes ahead with probably Youri then who on the right? It’s been a problem for a while and I hope we can bring in a RW but if not I am thinking Praet steps up. He isn’t a natural wide option and no doubt would cut inside but he provides intelligent runs and adds complements our passing philosophy. Ricky P could overlap and know Praet would go back to help defend.

Madders as the 10 and Vards again are certs.

Of course Youri may still be sold and I know many question his attitude but he remains the best option in threading a pass. And he will have all eyes on the WC.

Interesting to see how others see this.

I would play castagne,jj and periera right mid/wing

I think he might be planning that. Though, possibly, with Castagne as the midfielder and Ricky as RB. Today Castagne played very advanced and hugged the touchline....  and.i noticed how narrow/inside Ricky played.

I have a faint whiff of a tactical switch, discarding the need for Lookman this season

Saved me typing it out. Would be surprised if it's not this with the possible exception of Castagne in for Ricardo.

That does feel very familiar.

Castagne is so much better in the air than Justin, corners are still a worry, so I can't see Justin starting ahead of Castagne, plus he is not as good at all the other aspects really

I can’t see Timmy not starting….Brentford have some very tall lads don’t they?

imagine the scenes on here if Brendan repeated his Roma set piece tactics and had Ricky marking Toney on a corner and he scored?

I can't see why the idea of playing Riccy P at RW doesn't get touted. Maybe I'm missing something.

I think if it was going to happen we would’ve seen it at least a few times by now

Pereira is at his best coming from deep

and over/under lapping the winger ahead of him

I suppose so, he certainly has the ability to play further forward but perhaps not the consistency.

Can't see them risking tielemans if we're trying to sell him

Good point, might be a kick up the arse to sign an extension or get his agent to sort a move out, especially with the world cup coming up. One of our best players but if he is leaving then ....him

I'd like to see the team that started against Preston start this one. Brentford were unlucky against us in both games last season, but I feel that without Eriksen they are a lot less worrying to play. I think it would be good to see if Soumare can handle Premier League opposition, changing him for either Ndidi or Tielemans (or both) if he's flopping. We could take off Albrighton and Soumare, put on Tielemans and Ndidi and then shift Maddison out right as the Plan B if needed.

Most importantly for any game this season... 5 Subs! Against teams that finished below us last season, we should exploit this to the maximum as we have a great squad compared to many teams in the league.
