Odysseas Vlachodimos.

Atletico want this guy to replace Oblak, so I’m guessing he is fairly decent. Never seen him play as far as I recall.

Bottom line: This guy is the greek Kasper, won't come off his line, can't really play out the back, has the occasional howler in him, is a great shotstopper

He's somehow even worse at everything that we criticize Kasper for

This makes him look pretty good, but they are a dominant team in that league

It took him ten years to get home after the Trojan War. Do we really need a keeper that can go missing for that long? I would say not. His remarkable Cyclops-blinding skills would put the rest of our squad to shame, but it is difficult to see such an attribute being any use in the Premier League, especially now that we have VAR

Leicester City not keen on matching request for signing – Player turned down approach for new contract
By Lucas Sposito -5th August 2022

Even though Portuguese newspapers today bring no updates on Leicester City’s chase for Benfica goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos, we get to see something interesting coming from CNN.

There, journalist Bruno Andrade claims that the Foxes aren’t keen on spending too much money on the Greece international to replace Kasper Schmeichel, who this week left the club for Nice.

It’s said that Leicester City ‘in fact’ have interest in signing Vlachodimos, but ‘never’ for the €15m which Benfica have been demanding for his transfer.

Bruno Andrade adds that the Eagles even recently approached the goalkeeper for a contract renewal. The 28-year-old, however, asked them to wait and see what will happen in the final weeks of the transfer window.

Since Leicester City started being interested in Vlachodimos, we’ve seen different claims from the Portuguese media, with some even saying that Benfica could demand between €10m and €12m for his transfer this summer, as his starting place in the team isn’t guaranteed.

Now it seems a discount on that €15m request would indeed be crucial in this chase, with the Foxes not looking to spend a lot on his arrival.

Apparently we came close to signing him - https://www.sportime.gr/podosfairo/ellines-tou-eksoterikou/i-mantsester-giounaitent-sinechizi-ke-entini-to-skaoutingk-gia-ton-odissea-vlachodimo/

Odysseas Vlachodimos proves game by game and especially in the Champions League arena that (unfortunate) circumstances simply delayed what is a given, that is, his transfer to an even bigger club than Benfica. According to information, Manchester United not only continues, but intensifies the scouting for the No1 of the Greek national team.

And they are probably doing well, especially after appearances like the one on Tuesday (11/10) when Vlachodimos' Benfica stopped Ebape, Neymar's Paris Saint-Germain for the second time in less than a week.

After all, as you were informed by sportime.gr , this will also be the last season of the 28-year-old , born in Germany, goalkeeper in Lisbon. And it was already late.

For at least two years now, Vlachodemos has entered the blocks of great teams in Europe and certainly of the top leagues. Last summer, Leicester and Ajax came close to signing him but procedural details prevented the transfer from happening.

In the past, Newcastle and other teams had knocked on Benfica's door.

Manchester United are intensifying their scouting for Vlahodemos
But now, already since October, the situation seems to be different. Manchester United , one of the biggest clubs in the history of football, is located at the bottom of Vlachodimos.

United also checked his case in the summer but preferred to proceed with the acquisition of Dubravka, on loan from Newcastle.

It is a given that the situation cannot remain the same in the summer of 2023. Also, De Gea will already be 32 and should not be excluded from looking for a new adventure.

Vlachodimos , along with Oblak of Atletico Madrid, are considered the goalkeepers (followed by goalkeepers such as Cakir of Trabzonspor, Livakovic of Dinamo Zagreb, etc.) who are ready for the next big step and in a Manchester-type club.

The 28-year-old No. 1 of the Greek national team is considered at first glance to have all those elements that will make United proceed with the false slogan. And of course, such a negotiation is likely to go over the 12 million euros that was the deal with Leicester or Ajax last summer.

After all, in Benfica they had never hidden that they would like an amount close to 20 million to be satisfied with the possible sale of Vlachodimos.

The Greek goalkeeper with performances like those against Paris is difficult to stay in Portugal. After all, he is already in his fifth season, he went in the summer of 2018, this year he has played 17 matches and a total of 186 with the "Eagles" shirt.

Would be a very good singing, he's impressed for Benfica this season. His distribution is really good, and is a commanding presence. If you are playing a high line, this is thee type of keeper you are after. A bit of a mini-Ederson for Man City would be a good comparison. Ederson when Man City are up against it does drop the occasional clanger, but because they usually dominate the game, the other aspects of his game like sweeping up, quickly distributing the ball after collecting it and killing attacks quickly by claiming the ball early become more important.
