Mate Evans has played over 150 times in the last 5 years for city including starting the cup final despite being obviously injured. These facts trump some here say story on a podcast you've listened too! I know you lot our desperate for a scape goat but Evans definitely ain't it. 21

Pretty obvious if you did that he had leadership qualities.

I’ve seen him play many times thanks. And yes he uses his experience on the field to good effect. But off the field I’m not so sure. I’ve not heard him say anything which would indicate he’s committing himself and motivating the team to commit themselves, to the cause. Comes over more as a wily old professional who knows what needs to be said (if not meant) in public.

From quick Maths, he's missed a minimum of 65 games in that period also (not all will have been down to injuries of course). I think its fair to consider Pulis comments regarding Evans because he spoke so fondly of him, whilst also admitting it was difficult to maintain his playing momentum due to these psychological issues. He shouldn't be a scapegoat for us, because he's been a fantastic signing and didn't pick the team when he was or wasn't playing! However, his injury record is appalling over the last two seasons. 1

He's not really alone there, though. Our injury list has been horrendous these past 2 seasons.
CrazyKopCorner Posted 21 April 2023 Posted 21 April 2023 I think Evans has played injured quite a bit for us. His movement is very poor and he seems to walk with a limp to me. If we could get him at all fit him and Cags have been a blummin good pair in the past and would be my preference but I think his legs and feet have gone 1
Claudio Fannieri Posted 21 April 2023 Posted 21 April 2023 If I recall correctly what Pulis said about Evans was that he wouldn’t play if he didn’t feel he was absolutely 100%. I think over the last couple of years that has become apparent and I particular this season it does feel he is missing more and more games as a result of ‘setbacks or illness etc’
Sly Posted 22 April 2023 Posted 22 April 2023 Evans has missed 57 games for us since he arrived through injury. Most of those have been this season unfortunately, however he’s no spring chicken. In 5 seasons, that’s no worse than the rest of the squad. He’s been invaluable to us. He’s only missed 127 games in his career through injury according to Transfer Market. https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jonny-evans/verletzungen/spieler/42412 When you consider he’s played 495 games in his career, potentially missed 127 games, so could have made 622 games total. He’s been injured for 20% of games available. That doesn’t sound great in fairness. 16 seasons in the Premier League. He’s only played over 30 games 3 times. 1

But it’s not your opinion, it’s Pulis’ and you have chose to believe it and lap it up like a little dog. I think his performances over the last 5 years for us have warranted more respect shown to him rather than to “sack him off” cause a washed up manager has come out of the woodwork. He has blatantly played through injury for us countless times, this season it’s probably caught up with him as he isn’t getting any younger.

Like Vardy though, the signs showed last season, so maybe we should have looked to move on last summer given the chance.

Lonsdalefox Posted 22 April 2023 Posted 22 April 2023 His time at the club has followed a similar trajectory to Rodgers. Brilliant for two years and then a total waste of space there after.
coolhandfox Posted 22 April 2023 Posted 22 April 2023 I see it's Evans turn for a Foxestalk beating the guy has been class for us. Sometimes father time just catch up with you. This will be his last season at the club. 2

Nalis Posted 10 May 2023 Posted 10 May 2023 Influence and inspiration on the pitch when on form was incredible. Influence as captain off the pitch is the square root of fvck all if hunger and fight of team mates are anything to go by
fazzyfox Posted 10 May 2023 Posted 10 May 2023 It's not just about his performance, the other CB, the full back on his side, DM's (if we pick any) and CM's in front of him all play better with his brain around organising them. I'd stretcher him onto the pitch for the next 3 games, he played a significant part in keeping Chelsea out in that first half hour of the Cup Final when they were all over us, play him as one of 3 CB's in the next 2 games at least, Ricardo and Castagne at wing back and we won't be shipping 6's & 7's as predicted.
