What effort and commitment was shown? For the first time in ages I’ve got non LCFC supporting mates saying we’re going down and that the players hardly pressed, tracked or put any effort in vs. Liverpool.

It’s just empty words, they talk the talk but can’t walk the walk, it’s been the same for 18 months now.

Evans is waiting for the contract to end just as much as Tielemans is his, and Maddison and Barnes on their transfers.

And i checked hes not even been with the development team to get some match fittness or form what the actaul hell.

Not sure how much training he has been doing either as the past couple of weeks he has been taking his uefa B course at a club local to me.

Fighting for your lives and you stick somebody in thats not even been playing/training, we had other options surely. Last night was not the best game to reintroduce him, i dont think he had a terrible game considering the above, but what a gamble its bonkers

Bumping this as I felt yesterday Evans showed the leadership we’ve been missing for months. Marshalled the defence to hold their line, was super vocal and even played on through cramp. Think it’s great to have him back and although Souttar was the standout CB he was immense IMO. Let’s hope he has one more colossal performance in him on Sunday.

He is a rolls royce, always has been here. Great player and I wish we got him when he was a bit younger.

The defence look more composed with him to me.

Jonny Evans papered over the cracks in our defense the last year or two. We were a lot of things yesterday, but disorganized wasn't one of them. We desperately need a leader like him next year that can organize a back line (and stay healthy while doing it).

I reckon he might get a player / coach contract offer from us in the summer

Play when available and when not can focus on recovery, coaching, carrying on with his badges etc.

I have no doubt had he played at least 8 more games this season we would have survived. As he brings control and structure to the defence.  His absence has been a big loss. But I do wonder whether his body has called time on his career.

Has earned us 2 £70m+ deals whilst he's been here, could have been more had we sold Soyuncu whilst his price was high. All whilst being the best defender in the eyes of us fans.

I think the problem we have with him is that he’s too slow to play in a 2 now.  Was great to have his know-how next to faes and souttar yesterday. I mentioned in another thread that he was giving faes a bollocking which is about time. i’m so shocked than when faes has been about to implode nobody seems to have a word with him and get him to keep his head.

He really didn't, he's been as bad as the rest of them

Have to really disagree, when he’s fit he is immense. He’s just never fit now. When it was Jonny and Fofana back in 20/21 Jonny was the better of the two, and as soon as he injured his plantat fascia, Cags came in and we crumbled. Wes looked lost.

There was a noticeable difference yesterday. Yes, there were some real near misses but we were much more organised.

The only noticeable difference was pure dumb luck. It finally turned in our favour. Maybe Jonny was playing with a rabbits foot wedged up his arse. If he can repeat the trick against West Ham it's all good though and he can retire a Leicester legend.

27 goals conceded in his 11 starts suggests otherwise. And if Newcastle had won 3-0 last night nobody would have said it was undeserved. As for organisation, it didn't look like Faes had any interest in what he had to say.

I noticed this too.  Faes needs to wind his neck and actually listen.  Might make him into a much better defender.

Didn't he go off injured? Will he even be available on Sunday?

Smith said it was cramp not an injury so fingers crossed.

Reminds me of the time Rodgers said Evans should be fine for the next game when he limped off once. I think Evans was out for nearly 3 months.

Ok, that header from 1cm was pure luck. But was anything else?

Iversen created their other big chance, fluffing a catch. Most other efforts were fairly speculative due to good organisation and bodies in way.. 2-0 was the xG. About right.

But goals change games. Who's to say that they wouldn't have shut up shop at 1-0, having the cushion to secure a draw?

I thought Evans was excellent. And Souttar. And I like that Faes has the bollox to answer Evans back.

You said he'd papered over the cracks over the last year ot two? Then mention he's only good when fully fit but admit he's hasn't been fully fit in years. Someone posted the games he'd played in this season prior prior to the Liverpool game and the stats weren't particularly impressive.

That’s 20/21 season he was immense, and if he didn’t get injured before that Newcastle game we’d have got top 4. We ended up losing to Newcastle, beat United, lost to Chelsea and then Spurs. When he played in 21/22 I thought he was very good, the results largely reflect that I believe.

Although I’ve had a look at last season and he didn’t play as much as I remembered. So I take your point, and absolutely this season it has been a joke with his injury’s and the wage he’s on.

I do think he has looked very good the last two games considering how long he’s been out, and he’s not lost what little pace he had. Let’s pray he shuts out West Ham on Sunday if he’s fit aha.
