You said he'd papered over the cracks over the last year ot two? Then mention he's only good when fully fit but admit he's hasn't been fully fit in years. Someone posted the games he'd played in this season prior prior to the Liverpool game and the stats weren't particularly impressive.

Hardly surprising is it. He's hardly played for the majority of the last two seasons.

We conceded 20 shots again, this time to a side who were visibly playing with a lesser intensity than normal knowing that their job was already done. The problem with us conceding goals is not a personnel issue in the back line, it's because too many of our midfielders and forwards don't know how to press.

They don’t press as a collective at all mate.

It’s baffling how our coaches can’t work on this.

Smith mentioned about time as a group watching back recent errors but how they limply press as individuals or randomly as pairs but then leave gaping holes behind is real amateur stuff.

We have stopped any pressing since Smith took over. I've really not been impressed with Smith, his team selections, and his tactics since he's been here.

We're getting away from the intent of the topic, but I think the lack of pressing was part of the strategy against Newcastle. When you press poorly, you open up space to attack in. You also get dragged up the field which means exposing our hideously slow back line in transition. The only way you keep a clean sheet with this defense is to sit deep and defend in numbers.

Newcastle often settled for crosses and shots from distance. It's fine to concede a bunch of shots from low xG areas of the pitch. That's how Burnley stayed up under Sean Dyche (until they didn't). I'm willing to say I'm not too proud to be reduced to playing like Burnley if it means staying up lol

That said, we can't play this way against West Ham. We have to come out of our end to attack and score goals. I think it's going to go... poorly. I am hoping we can come out strong like we have the last few games, but ya know... actually take the lead... if that is allowed. Then we can afford to sit back and counter.

He really didn't, he's been as bad as the rest of them

I'm not gonna just let you sit back and slander Johnny Evans character 😂

He's aged like a fine wine. If he could manage to stay on the pitch, we wouldn't be in this position.

27 goals conceded in his 11 starts suggests otherwise. And if Newcastle had won 3-0 last night nobody would have said it was undeserved. As for organisation, it didn't look like Faes had any interest in what he had to say.

Faes is a bit of a bad Soyuncu. Looks fancy, erratic but without the defensive skills of Soyuncu. Faes is too risky a defender and is often out of position. Evans (when fit) and Souttar for me.

Choudhury isn't expiring until 2024.

You got a source? Everything I can see says he signed a 4 year deal in 2019 and that it runs until 2023

He signed an extra year when he went out on loan.

We rarely pressed under Rodgers.

I think we noticeably improved in his first few games in terms of getting up the pitch, but its dropped off again.

Ironically the most pressing we’ve ever done was under an Italian however that was largely down to the work rate of Kante, Sharkey, Shinji and Vardy.

You are correct. We'd already be relegated.

11 starts

1 win

2 draws

8 defeats

5 points

27 goals conceded

That said I really hope he can become the Jonny Evans from 3 years ago for just one more game.

Justin and Pereira pema-crocks until 2026 lol

The squad is a joke - we're barely able to field a starting 11 next season, let alone a bench!

Evans talking as if he has already left

“"It’s a great club. I have no doubt it’ll bounce back.”

It’ll be back, not we.

Out of contract and sounds like he has no interest in staying. (Not that I think we can afford him)

Don't think the club have any interest in keeping him to be fair.
