Joke decision.

How is this nothing more than a gesture?

If Albrighton makes 10 appearances in all competitions it will be because of the ****ed up financial predicament we are in, which, by the way, no one has lost their job over.

Do the opposite to what everyone else would do - I like it.

Did a bit of digging into this. It's not as uncommon as it seems to have a captain that doesn't play much any more. Which emphasises even more that its not all about appearances, but perhaps influence off the pitch or in the dressing room...

Last season Man City had Fernandinho as their captain. Did he play much? No. Was he respected by his teammates? Yes. Was he a good role model for the club? Yes.

Same can be said of Troy Deeney at Watford last season too. Not sure how much he played, but it definitely wasn't as much as it has been in previous seasons.

Coleman is Everton's captain this season. He probably won't play much either but it's more about respect, leadership, influence, representing the club these days.

Some of you really like to get on Brendan's back for the silliest of things, most of which he doesnt even have control over

It was player voted

of course he has control he could have just appointed someone or named some candidates our vice captain is a winger who's legs went 3 years ago and never plays, its terrible management

Balls.

Albrighton hasnt been a first team regular for years. Obviously he'll be a respected individual but this is a gesture.

Okay, if you say so.

I'm guessing all of the players must be wrong then. And their feelings on how they view Albrighton are all invalid? Cool.

Mark Albrighton, a model professional. Good decision.

As for all of the bedwetters, get a grip and learn a little something about professional football before posting drivel.

Think the players might have a reasonable idea of how much game time Alrighton is going to see this season.

What do you actually mean 'it's a gesture'?

A bad one,  in your eyes?

I just wished people could have a balanced view.

Marc Albrighton is a model professional, I imagine he is always setting an example for others to follow. He will always be one of our 'immortals' who made us Champions of England, and I can only imagine he is a positive influence around the place. But, at the end of the day it's 2022, he's crap and wouldn't play for a single side in this league, or a lot of the division below either.

This sounds to me like an attempt by Rodgers to appease the players, and our fanbase, as he knows that a lot of our fans like the guy, even if it's not for his footballing ability anymore. It looks like its being bought by some too, who believe this is a positive decision. It's another step backwards and an example of regressive thinking.

Don't put words in my mouth, they all think Albrighton is a worthy vice captain and I would have no problem with him being captain if he was still playing most games.

Does this mean if and when Evans is unavailable Albrighton will be in the team?

It's a gesture and just for your confirmation  stan, in my opinion a nice one.

Quite pointless though.

Being a captain / vice captain is much more about "running the dressing room" than stuff on the pitch.

This is the video of Peter Crouch talking about what captains do that some people in here have mentioned

I still don't comprehend what you mean by 'its a gesture'?

Maybe he does have in mind who could deputise if there are injuries.

Do you really think the club, Rodgers, players, staff are that short-sighted to just go 'Jonny, you're the captain. Sharky, you're the vice'. And that's it?

Give it a break. There's quite clearly a hierarchy amongst the squad and it's quite obvious people respect Albrighton as a player and a professional, and now in a captain's capacity. So what if he doesn't play every single minute? That's not what a captain is all about these days. If you think it is maybe change your mindset. The fact Albrighton is a model professional probably helped his cause?

I don’t agree with your post at all. The captain and vice captain positions are not in the least progressive and are something you get voted in on - that’s for the end of season awards - And you can give it a break

Can we get him on the RW while we are at it, may offer us an actual attacking option.

4-4-2

                   Ward

    Castange Evans Soy Justin

Albrighton KDH Maddison Barnes

                Nacho

                    Vardy or Daka.

What? Albrighton was voted in? By the players and coaches. This wasn't just a Rodgers decision?

I'm not sure what you're getting at.

I think a lot of peoples point, and a fair one at that is should Evans not be playing, why not choose a regular starter? Is he going to play Albrighton for the sake of it if Evans is unavailable?

Wtf? So it's great management to go against the wishes of the staff and the players and overrule them? And it's "terrible management" to not go along with the "unanimous" decision of the players and staff?

People are weird. Rodgers has got a long wrong, but this is the weirdest ****ing thing to go on a rant against him about and call "terrible management" for appointing a vice captain who was the unanimous choice of everyone else.

You clearly missed the point where HE DOESN’T HAVE TO ASK THE PLAYERS AND STAFF TO VOTE.

Doing so is actually highly unusual, if he wanted to have a vote he should have picked 3 or 4 players he expects to start most weeks and let the players vote on them.

This makes no sense. I love Marc  but he's not in the first team plans, so why the hell would you make him VC, it means we're most likely going to need another captain on the pitch for when Evans doesn't play which then makes it just a mockery and devalues it IMO.

I can imagine a situation of Evans getting crocked, he passes it onto someone like KDH on the pitch who then passes it on to Marc when he comes on for the last 5 mins. He then gets crocked and has to pass it on to someone else as KDH has now been subbed.

It really isn't that unusual.

He didn't have to. But he did. Live with it. Don't let it get you too angry about it.
