People saying captaincy is more that what goes on on the pitch , whilst that's correct, this positions is purely for the ceremonial purpose of who wears the armband when the actual captain doesn't play. Seems nonsensical to hand it to someone who rarely plays themselves. Albrighton can be a leader off the pitch, but the role of vice captain officially carries no more responsibility than wearing the armband on those situations mentioned above. A none playing captain isn't unusual as the captain has other day to day roles in the club, but a non playing vice captain is weird.

Okay but given Albrighton isn't really a starter and Evans is an old man with a gammy foot who's the on the pitch vice captain?

There's a great video out there somewhere where Wilf is asked if he thinks Vardy would make a good captain, and he immediately creases up and keeps saying 'No!' I think Vards has many strengths, but I'm not sure he's seen as a leader.

That said, if you listen to Peter Crouch talk he seems to think that the main role of the modern captain is organising extra tickets for family and friends.

Not certain but i'm fairly sure Wilf was asked if he thought Vardy would make a good manager as opposed to a captain.

Does it really matter? It's not as if the manager cant get messages to players and the coaches are near enough to encourage, when Kasper was Captain did you see him go doing anything other than shouting at the players. It's not as if there the only ones that confront the ref.

I think the position on the pitch is someone overblown.

It does matter yes KDH is ready for it, give him some responsibility all the players buzz off him, not someone who won’t be on the pitch. Who else’s vice captain in the prem makes only 20 appearances a season? Honestly the club make some strange decisions at times.

Actually works well, Evans and Albrighton can deal with all the baggage that comes with being a captain off the field.

Because Marc doesn't start much if Evans isn't fit it means it can be given to players like KDH or Maddison on the field.

If you read most football autobiographies being Captain off the field is a bit of a ball ache, KHD has enough on his plate to becoming an established PL pro.

You are also forgetting the player's help choose.

They'll buzz off him whether he's a Captain, Vice Captain or the Milk monitor but he's not going to be a player that someone  with a personal problem or a club issue is going to be comfortable going too.

Gives an opportunity for people like Maddison, KDH to have a go without the off-field stuff to deal with.

Absolutely pointless decision. We need leaders on the pitch, not off it.

Natural leaders will lead they don't need a title to do that.

I think people over estimate what the role of captain actually entails tbh

Hearing them talking about it on Ben Foster and Peter Crouch's podcasts, most of the work the captain does is things like handing out tickets for the games on the team bus for the players, and there is very little in the way of telling players what they should and shouldn't be doing

so a player who probably shouldn't be at the club any longer is vice captain, sums Brendan up really

Did Rodgers choose the captain? No. Doesn't sum him up so no need to get on his back for this one particular thing.

Wes was still club captain 2 seasons ago and he only played 10 minutes in the cup final, all season.

Yes but his vice captain was as reliable and ever present as you could get.

Some of you really like to get on Brendan's back for the silliest of things, most of which he doesnt even have control over

It was player voted

I dont think he is a role model just because he runs a lot and is good guy overall

and he never plays, so not the best option

String determination, loyalty, and respectfulness are excellent traits for a role model and captain.

Vice captain?

"Marc Albrighton was the choice from the coaches, the fellow players. It was unanimous really. He's a model professional. They set a standard every day, Jonny and Marc, the level of how they commit themselves to their work. It's a comfort to other players that they are there to support them."

Why Albrighton as VC?

"He's absolutely brilliant. I've had a few of those players here now. They are really important figures for us. When he plays, he gives everything to the cause. He wants to play. I can't speak highly enough of him. He has the total respect of his team-mates."

So a Vice Captain who's unlikely to play more than a dozen games .......... Another totally bizarre decision

Not a big issue really but I'm starting to get really concerned about the club and some of the decisions that have been made over the last few years

Again, the players voted on this, not the club or Brendan

It’s not a democracy - Brendan should have his own captain and vice captain and also in mind 2 others in case of injuries etc who are going to influence the team on the pitch too - Marc Albrighton is a model professional and doesn’t need to be vice captain

Maybe he does have in mind who could deputise if there are injuries.

Do you really think the club, Rodgers, players, staff are that short-sighted to just go 'Jonny, you're the captain. Sharky, you're the vice'. And that's it?

Give it a break. There's quite clearly a hierarchy amongst the squad and it's quite obvious people respect Albrighton as a player and a professional, and now in a captain's capacity. So what if he doesn't play every single minute? That's not what a captain is all about these days. If you think it is maybe change your mindset. The fact Albrighton is a model professional probably helped his cause?

If Evans is injured during a game then the armband will be passed to Vardy and if not him then Maddison.

You don't get a better VC than Albrighton, especially during this difficult time with certain players acting like idiots.
