It is when our club is in decline.

Why? lol

Give it to someone who will actually be on the pitch, should Evans not play for whatever reason.

It has literally zero practical implications anyway

Yeah it doesn't really matter, it will just go to Vardy if neither of them are on the pitch, anyway.

And when it goes to Vardy, what then?

This isn't cricket.

I dont think he is a role model just because he runs a lot and is good guy overall

and he never plays, so not the best option

the players who voted him in obviously do think he's a role model.

No disrespect to Marc but this is a massively wasted opportunity to let one of the younger lads learn the ropes.

Yes if we still need a stand-in for a game, guys like Marc and Vards could step in. But VC should have been Madders or KDH in my opinion

Maybe Vardy doesn't want it and being Captain / vice is probably more to do with off the pitch than on it. Everyone should be a Captain, in terms of encouragement etc and tactics are often dished out during the game to individuals.

What do you mean "what then?". We just carry on playing lol

I thought you just said it has "literally no implications, anyway".

Yeah I'm saying it doesn't matter whether it's someone on the pitch or not. Vardy will do exactly the same on the pitch, make the same runs, shoot the same shots, stand in the same positions, say the same words, whether he's captain, vice captain or neither.

It's a pointless conversation and frankly I don't know why I bothered to open the thread. Probably because I knew it'd annoy me and I'd write a reply like this.

IT DOESN'T MEAN ANYTHING!!

So when evans doesn’t play and Albrighton is on the bench like most of the time who the f@@k has the arm band 🤦🏻‍♂️

Does it really matter? It's not as if the manager cant get messages to players and the coaches are near enough to encourage, when Kasper was Captain did you see him go doing anything other than shouting at the players. It's not as if there the only ones that confront the ref.

I think the position on the pitch is someone overblown.

Agreed.

It was decided by the players and the coaches you melt lol lol

Not everything is Rodgers' 'fault'.

He looked to his squad as they're the ones they'll be led by. They've made a decision and he's respected it. It kind of puts paid to the ethos that Rodgers is 'always' only it for himself.

Albrighton is clearly respected amongst the group and that should be respected by all the fans too.

A captain is someone that can set the examples off the pitch as well as on the pitch. It's not what it used to be like 10-15 years ago where they had to be a leader on the pitch and that's it. If anything, the club should have leaders on the pitch anyway. We do - Evans, Maddison, Vardy, Tielemans. They perhaps should do better at times but they're big personalities that are also well respected. Maybe Albrighton has more respect than them anyway. We're also presuming that players like Vardy or Maddison wanted the captaincy in the first place.

Sick of everyone believing everything seen as bad in some fans eyes must only be the fault of Rodgers. Grow up and get a grip.

Great post.

On the Peter Crouch podcast he talked about the captain role being more admin led than anything - collecting fines, driving standards, helping young players.

Based on that, I can see why he would be considered a good role model in the dressing room and should get the position/respect as a result

There's a great video out there somewhere where Wilf is asked if he thinks Vardy would make a good captain, and he immediately creases up and keeps saying 'No!' I think Vards has many strengths, but I'm not sure he's seen as a leader.

That said, if you listen to Peter Crouch talk he seems to think that the main role of the modern captain is organising extra tickets for family and friends.

The team is not an isolated military unit in need of a ranking officer.

Rodgers is there issuing orders pitchside.

I swapped pennants and called the toss once because the natural leader told me to. He would given me the armband if we had one.

He still led us during the game and I was mighty embarrassed collecting the trophy.

The coach hated me so it could not have worked long term in the buffer between worker and management role, though that be more club captain stuff

There's a bit of an over reaction in here about this.

The players decided, it doesn't mean he will play more games and he is ultimate professional.

Yes Rodgers is frustrating but I wouldn't say he's done anything wrong here.

Maybe KDH or Vardy will fill in when Evans and Albrighton are not available.

We should have eleven captains(leaders) on the pitch. Albrighton although he doesn't play that much had been at the club for a long while and who knows the ins and outs and the workings of the club. He can liase between the players and staff and offer general encouragement.  Its probably more to do with off the pitch stuff than when they're actually playing.

I agree that natural leaders dont need an armband but I think 11 leaders is a bad idea, too many cooks and all that, 3 or 4 is plenty
