It’s a huge shame but to be honest we didn’t hold many cards here. We have a straight choice, finish the transfer window with a player who is refusing to play and the fans now hate, with no cover at CB if that player gets injured, at a time where we can’t afford to bring anyone in, or take the money and try to scramble together some sort of cover for the squad. 
 

Chelsea could easily pull off a different 75m CB signing from somewhere else, we can’t really afford to turn it down and they knew it.

Yeah, sadly always felt like a temporary stop after the first few months. This might be one for the unpopular opinions thread but he helped us out a lot by signing that contract. We got a good fee and hopefully it backfires on Chelsea like Drinkwater did.

Don’t waste your time and emotions on him, folks. He was here briefly and now he’s gone. He’ll be a mere footnote in the club’s history, and he wouldn’t even be that but for the big transfer fee and his being in the FA Cup winning side.

£30mish then less whatever cut St Etienne presumably had. In May 2021 we'd have been disappointed with anything less than £90m so the corner we've backed ourselves into has bitten us in the arse.

We lost our power as soon as he stopped turning up to training to force a move. I know we held firm with Riyad but we ended up selling him for a lower fee the following year under a totally different financial situation.

Fofana is uncapped and Maguire is English, Man Utd were really desperate at the time and he was signed on the back of a tournament in which he had done alright for England. I think our financial position was also a bit better then, we really needed a big fee this summer after not getting one last year.

His statement is embarrassing. Who does he think he is? Talking about how he didn’t communicate during the window when there was a continuous flow of social media posts from him, not even made him 40 senior appearances and he is talking like he is a club legend.

 

Do not wish him the best whatsoever, hope he flops and has a mediocre career. Just hope that it allows us to get a few players through the door behind the deadline.
