i don’t know why i remember this so much but I remember feeling absolutely terrorized by Ricardo Fuller when stoke scored 4 against us at home.

I was so jealous they had a striker like that lol

As soon as I saw the thread title I thought Bergkamp…. At his best he was imperious, one of the best players ever to kick a ball in the PL

One of my standout memories from that game was enjoying the Wright v Walsh handbags…. Wright actually looked frightened for a bit….

Amazing game

Griezmann was all over against us in the home tie against Atletico.

Sometimes you need to see a player live to appreciate how good they truly are and he was amazing.

Seem to remember Nick Pope being inexplicably good for Burnley against us at their place a few years ago.

Won't be the best but as a goalkeeper it's the first one that came to mind.

Adam Lallana was brilliant for Southampton against us in about 2011, we won 3-2 but he was everywhere.

Obviously not objectively the best performance outright but probably the best I saw either for or against us at that level.

Bored. So thought it start a shite thread.

What is the best one off performance you’ve ever seen from an opposition player? For me it has to be the Bergkamp hat-trick in 1997.

That last goal. I think even Elliott wanted to applaud despite getting turned inside out.

The above. To be there, to watch him play from the stands was to appreciate his exquisite first touch, his guile and finesse and his outright intelligence as a football player - in addition to his movement off the ball. Truly one of the greatest players to grace the English game.

'The non-flying Dutchman' Such a shame that his aviophobia curtailed what would have been a spectacular international career. The condition severely hampered his ability to play in away matches in European competitions and to travel with the national team. In some instances, it was possible for him to travel overland by road or train, but the logistics more often than not prohibited his involvement.

I also recall several encounters with Liverpool in which Dalglish was outstanding.

Bergkamp is the most obvious one in the 3 3 and is still the best player I've ever seen live.

However i also remember a game where Juninho absolutely destroyed us at Filbert St. He was sublime.

Probably too good as that performance led to O'Neill deciding to get Pontus to man mark him in the League Cup finals, that effectively won us the trophy.

Bergkamp as previously put.

One that stuck in my mind was David James for Watford once.

He took a lot of stick from the spion kop end ,but he saved loads that day.

A right arrogant sod , but fair play to him that day.

Not too unlike Aaron Ramsdale last season

Strange proportion of Arsenal ones in this thread. And I'm going to add another two.

Sanchez at the KP in our title winning season.

Ozil in a 3-1 win at the Emirates abput 4 or 5 years ago.

It was the first thing that immediately sprung to mind when I saw the thread title.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but are you referring to to the second leg of the Europa tie with Atletico Madrid in which he was absolutely sublime? In which case, the League Cup final and replay was prior to that. We did play Middlesbrough just weeks before the Worthington Cup final at Wembley and subsequent replay at Hillsborough, in which he similarly impressed in a 1-3 defeat at Filbert Street, and from memory, he was rampant in that too, (a certain Mr Pearson was also quite commanding at the back). But for me, he was even better the following September in the Europa tie. Incredible really when you think of the complete job that Pontus did on him - as you say - twice! Completely neutralised his threat and marked him out of the game.

Surprised no one said Wilfred Zaha yet, always has the game of his life against us. Should have signed him back in 2010! Still remember his debut for Palace against us, he tore us to shreds.

A weird one but I remember Solomon Rondon bullying is at Championship level for West Brom or Newcastle once. Was just about the only player I ever saw outstrength Big Wes.

Scholes or Van Nistelrooy in a 4-1 defeat 03/04. Scholes ran the show and Van Nistelrooys finishing was deadly.

This for me. Nistelrooy was unreal that day. I think all three goals were dispatched in less than three touches. Masterclass.
