Who would we then go for?

probably the other (unattainable) names on Villa's list . I suspect our club has lost the magic touch we all benefited from, when we tragically  lost Vichai. Who would have picked Claudio and who would have seen what the club could become for a brief brilliant season under him.?

If this was to materialise, I would love us to get our balls out and get out the box. Something akin to QPR going after Michael Beale. Just surprise us.

As others have mentioned, there is no way the board is savvy enough to go beyond the same five or six names touted for every job.

Would take Gerrard if it means Rodgers goes away.

FFS this must be trolling. Most of us on here were hugging ourselves with glee when they appointed gerrard and that was because we knew he would bomb and hopefully take them down.

....I am sure that is not what they are seeing, even our supporters are scared to lose him!!!

Could it be that they are focused on what we are said to need to pay him in order to terminate his contract and they would envisage a similar sum to get him out of his contract.

His narrative is still holding up in the media and most supporters out there believe we are lucky to have him and do not deserve him.

Its called negotiation.

Now if you look at our negotiating when it comes to players, it'd suggest we're tough negotiators.

I just hope the club look at the bigger picture, we're in trouble, the reason most would assume he's not gone already is because of the pay out, we're led to believe Vichai was abit of a gambler, a good gambler always knows when to get out, lets hope Top learnt that.

Take. It.

If we can get something great but honestly let him go for free.

The only danger we would consider in 'letting him go for free' is Villa might question, take a step back and think 'Hang on, why are they letting him go for free' and might actually put them off, so on that point we have to be a little bit careful.

But genuinely, for all parties, it's a fantastic deal.

There's absolutely no way Villa are paying compensation for Rodgers when they can get him for free (if and when he's sacked by us).

....how long do you think that would be, and more importantly are they prepared to wait!!!

I really could see Rodger's at Villa.

Get it done

He is the perfect appointment for them. Brendan and Villa’s egos perfectly align.

I am trying to not get excited about this but bloody hell I can't help it.

Imagine getting compensation for this clown? PR masterclass by BR.

If this turns out to be true, it will be a Masterclass piece of Business by Top, BR leaves with his head held high-ish, most not all Foxes fans will  be happy, we might even be able to secure an up and coming manager, including wages, with the buy out clause money, you just never know

I really hope the Villa board are looking at the options open to them and thinking Rodgers winning silverware with us and achieving two 5th place finishes puts him towards the top of the list. Add in the fact that he's worked with Coutinho previously and potentially could be a) easier to acquire, and b) relatively cheap in terms of compensation, I can kind of see why he may be considered as a good option for them.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Rodgers push for the move either if there is genuine interest. In terms of brand Brendan he'd be able to sell this move to any future employer downstream relatively easily. He'd say as former European Champions the Villa job was too good an opportunity to turn down, he'd taken us as far as he could, blah blah blah, whereas we all know what the eventual outcome will be should he remain with us.

As much as I dislike the bloke he'd do a decent job at Villa in the short term and get them pushing for a Conference League spot. If they're smart they'd get him in, benefit from the Rodgers bounce then replace him with someone else at the end of year 2.
