If this was to materialise, I would love us to get our balls out and get out the box. Something akin to QPR going after Michael Beale. Just surprise us.

As others have mentioned, there is no way the board is savvy enough to go beyond the same five or six names touted for every job.

Previous board appointments;

• Rodgers

• Puel

• Shakespear

• Ranieri

• Pearson (re-appointed)

• Sven

With the exception of two balls, I don’t think any of these were expected / standard rehashed names

I'm not sure Rodgers would take it.

The attraction for him would be the size of the club and that the owners seemingly have money to burn at Villa but at the same time they would want success to come fairly quickly.

Would they back him like Top has if he suffered a run of bad results? Would they give him full control like he has here? I just don't see it personally.

In Top Rodgers has the most patient owner in the Premier league.

For all Villa fans reading this thread, wondering whether he would be the right man for the job, let's just say what a fantastic inspirational manager Brendan Rodgers has been for us and how sad we will be to see him go. You don't have to settle for cheap knock offs Pocketchinos when you can have this genuine original Northern Irish Tony Barton who will take you places and show you what football is all about. It's a real bargain lads, better take him now before Liverpool will come knocking!!!

If this turns out to be true, it will be a Masterclass piece of Business by Top, BR leaves with his head held high-ish, most not all Foxes fans will  be happy, we might even be able to secure an up and coming manager, including wages, with the buy out clause money, you just never know

I think he would probably be quite good for Villa too, until he gets beyond his sell by date. He is a good manager, just very stale with our players.

Sorry, but don't buy this at all. Brendan has slated our club and the owners lately, has been very vocal about it not being the same club it was a few years ago, and even in his interview following Leeds still harps on about the summer transfer window. What ever respect Top is showing him isn't reciprocated. No matter what happens now, Rodgers time here is nearly at an end. If we continue to languish at the bottom he will be gone next year. If he somehow manages to rescue things, i don't see us being anymore than low end table, so there is no chance on his deal being extended, and i don't think Rodgers wants to be fighting relegation battles at Leicester till 2025. Villa offers him a way out of all problems, and if he can get himself a decent Salary i actually think its a complete no brainer for him. There is no success for him here anymore.

If he can do at Villa what he did at Leicester, the media love in will be excruciating as he would be lauded at the man who brought the big times back to the big club. And, as you say, he will have money to spend as well. Tops patience won't figure in his decisions. the only barrier will be if Villa really want him or not?

Who is this Brendan Rodger they speak of and what related thing are they going to approach? His wife? His car? Brendan Rodger’s fancy belt?

I’m not sure I can trust a source that doesn’t know how to use an apostrophe.

It would be the most farcical story in football history if Rodgers was to leave us bottom of the league to go to Villa….. and a true sign that he has the football media world’s balls cupped in his little hand.

I bet Rodgers would fancy it as well

He would. Villa are minted so he can spend all of there cash of absolute wank, and then talk his way out of the club in three years once it’s gone to shit….. again.

....I am sure that is not what they are seeing, even our supporters are scared to lose him!!!

Could it be that they are focused on what we are said to need to pay him in order to terminate his contract and they would envisage a similar sum to get him out of his contract.

His narrative is still holding up in the media and most supporters out there believe we are lucky to have him and do not deserve him.

This is surely a wind up. Most supporters do not believe that at all.

Could this really happen, I would love it too but I can’t see Villa paying serious compo to get him and unless Top has been playing the most amazing game of poker known to man and has wanted him gone for some time but didn’t want to pay out and therefore prepared to accept a much reduced release fee, then I really can’t see it happening.

Absolutely this! Rodgers doesn't want to be here anymore. How many of Rodgers interviews do people need to watch for the penny to drop. That's why he's been throwing everyone but himself under the bus. That's why he has openly been critical of the owners, because he is trying to push them into sacking him. What he doesnt want though, is to leave without his payout. He will see Villa as a bigger club than us, with owners that spend lots of money, and with a group of players that he can do something with. He will see it as a way out of our club, and with a potentially big job to step into. If Villa do make a move for him, he's gone, it's a no brainer for him and his ego.

Need one of his media mates or one of the quivering interviewers who are in awe of Bren to whip something up on this, ask him if he'd be interested in the job.

They've done it with Thomas Frank and Mick Beale for various jobs recently.

I'd expect a stock politician-like answer but it might engineer something.
