I've supported the club since I was a boy, I don't really know any different. I couldn't walk away under Ashley and I'd find it hard to do so now.

I'm fully aware the regime in Saudi are an awful bunch and I'd much rather not be owned by them, but I didn't chose to be nor did I have any say in the matter.

I'm all for raising awareness of their atrocities and will welcome a rule change if it comes to ensure clubs can't be directly or indirectly owned  by states, but I will can continue to support my football club.

That almost certainly makes me a hypocrite, but it's not a black and white matter (so to speak) and everyone will have a take based on their own moral compass.

Keep supporting them lad !!

Elton John owned Watford once ! Enough said

If this was the general attitude then people would brush it off with boring Man City. The problem is all the ‘they deserve it’ clamour from the media and your deluded fan base lapping it up. You seem to be alright and I hope you stick about like some of our other undercover Leicester fans from Watford and Wolves

Whilst I have sympathy with you because it's obviously not an enviable position you're in and it would break my heart to have to boycott Leicester, you clearly DO have a say.

You could have walked away en masse.

A football club isn't the company that holds the relevant bank account and league licence, a football club is the fans from the city that support it and have done for a century or so.

You have enormous power to vote with your feet and yet all we've really seen from day one is more Geordies doing mental gymnastics to apologise for the regime and absolve themselves than actually admit any shame.

I don't hold you personally responsible on any individual basis, I don't know you. But to put up your hands and say "ah well, nothing we can do, best just get all stiff upper lip and keep supporting my team" is meek as fvck.

Sadly that's just the British way. We confuse quiet subservience for heroic, stoic endurance and always have.

It’s this and then the ****ing knobbers wearing Saudi garb rubbing fake notes together. Sorry but I can’t be told ‘it’s just our social media fan base’. Their fans in the main are deluded and odd

There is of course the alternative, that they are his team regardless of who owns it, and why should he give up such a big part of his life over something he has no control over.

When our airport monopoly holding, duty free business with no competition, thai owners pumping in more money than we have ever had, I enjoyed it.

There are of course degrees but the virtue signalling stinks. The vast majority will not boycott, because they don't actually want to.

I dont go to the football for my politics.

Well wow, this is a whole collection of terrible takes.

But then I'm not sure what more I'd expect from someone who thinks that objecting to a religious fundamentalist absolute monarchy with an abysmal human rights record is ViRtUe SiGnAlLiNg.

Try giving " agree to disagree" a go.

I can live with you feeling that way about me, just think the pair of you should lay off the geordie. It's a bit of a thing for me.

Anyone coming out to bat for Saudi is fair game. You also get whoppers wearing tea towels on their head and waving Saudi flags, but they are happily in a minority.

On what basis are our fans deluded? Not having a dig, just curious as to what's led you to believe that.

trying to apply morals to everything is a slippery slope, a bit like the liberalisation of society, there's no stopping. tell people to withdraw support for their football team but you still buy products from China? do you buy anything at all made by underpaid labour? support a government that killed 80%+ innocent civilians in drone strikes? eat meat not raised to the absolute highest of high specifications? take medication tested on animals? where do you draw the line? just get on with life and stop seeking virtue in the easiest possible manner.

Plenty of Toon fans (including mates of mine) believe you ‘deserve’ the investment just because ‘they love football up here’ and came close to winning the prem once.

On that basis every club must deserve it

No, it isn't, that's just what people who don't want morals to be applied to something say.

There seems to be plenty of stopping the liberalisation of society - it's happening all over the world!

Well, in this context, I draw it this side of murderous despots owning football clubs. More generally, there isn't a line to be drawn. All issues are different, and it's perfectly okay to make a fuss or take some action about one issue but not another. You can't do everything, but any little you choose to do is better than nothing.

With all due respect, this is patronising and insulting to anyone who cares about stuff. But I suspect you know that.

I can't say that's the general sentiment up this end, but if that's what you've experienced, fair enough.

The two have been inseparable for as long as it's been a spectator sport.

For me, I have a lot of respect for the Geordie fanbase, they have had a rough patch until recently. Generally a good bunch in my experience who live their club.

I also do not agree with the current ownership, made Ashley look like a saint. I would love more pushback from the fanbase but can sort of see them being happy with a bit of fortune. I personally hope they fail and someone else takes over but I am not holding my breath.

I am also pretty sure that our fanbase would also not care (on a majority level) who owns us.

Still respect Newcastle but find it hard to back them in any way.

I did have a lot of respect for them as wel until the needless goading last season with their last minute winner

Merry Christmas everyone.   Looking forward to the match on Boxing Day.

Some amazing stats for the game.

In the PL, we’ve only won on Boxing Day twice.

We’ve haven’t beat a team who are above us all season.

Newcastle are on a six game losing streak on Boxing Day.  If they make seven, last team to do that were Walsall between 1949 and 1959.

Rodgers have beat Howe in all four of his home fixtures

Forest, Leeds, Wolves and maybe Everton would all have been above us going into those games surely? Haven't beaten a team in the top half is the sort of stat I'd expect to see but we'd have done well to go from 20th to 12th without beating anyone above us
