His contract only has 18 months to run also.

Be interesting to see what we do here - do we move him on this summer or extend?

Tricky one, he will be on decent money as well.

...move him on please, he is never going to fulfill his potential playing for us the way we choose to use him!!!

Newcastle fan here,

Looking forward to what should be a cracking game of football between two sides that like to get on the front foot and knock it about.

Other than Isak, we should just scout have a full compliment to pick from. I'm expecting:

Pope

Trippier

Schar

Botman

Burn

Longstaff

Bruno

Willock

Almiron

Wilson

Joelinton

It was a bit of a shock that you started the season so poorly, but you were in decent nick before the break. I'd shake hands on a point.

No disrespect and I know of all clubs we shouldn’t be saying this, but the fact that this starting 11 cost you as much as it did and it’s in the top four is so so baffling to me. Dan ****ing Burn at left back. Mental.

A tricky one depends on which team actually turns up after the long break and Christmas dinner😉 really hoping for City win, don’t care if it’s a 1-0 win or a 4-3 win so long as we get the 3 points that’ll do for me!

But seriously Newcastle have made an amazing leap since hiring Eddie Howe who’s turned them into top 5 contenders from basement bargains, they can be dangerous as Fuch that we need to stop playing their usual game stop their better players taking too much time on the ball but I think we’re good enough to beat them so I’m going for a 2-1 win with a Vardy in the 15th min & a Madders free kick in the 73rd !

Very tough game this one and I think we could lose it. They are a sum of their parts. No fantastic players, but Howe has made them into a fantastic team.
I see a very close result but I’m going 1-2 to the Geordies.

I’m wondering if Isak could have been a terrible buy? So much money and so injury prone! I think he’s only made a couple of starts for you lot hasnt he?

No doubt if we went on each forum every week of the 15/16 season they would be the saying the same with Danny Simpson lol

Very true. Football is a funny game. You could tell we actively put Vardy on Burn while he was at Brighton

Looking forward to this game actually, will be a good test. Don't think we will lose but not sure if we will have enough for the win...

1-1 for me. Which i think would be a decent result against a team on form.

It's too early to say. He picked up a thigh injury with Sweden and it reoccurred shortly after. If I was speculating, there's absolutely no rush to bring him back at the moment, so I think we're being ultra cautious to make sure he's 100%.

Hope we thrash them as always. No acceptance of Newcastle's success should be tolerated and they're just as bad as any super league scab team. That said, we'll lose. 2-1 or 3-1 to them.

It's a bit mental to us too and most are convinced there's bound to be a drop off, but we're just enjoying it while it lasts.

Thats what we thought in 2015/16.....

That theory doesn't work. We had 3 world class players who, in that season, would've made any side in the world.

Newcastle haven't got any

I dno, Almiron was playing like 15/16 Mahrez on roids before the WC break lol

The underlying metrics show that at this stage, we're not in a false position and we are playing at a top four standard.

Our game is very dependant on a high press though, so we're bound to pick up injuries, especially if we want to give the cups a go. It'll be hard enough to maintain this form with our first team but when you have Murphy, Fraser and Wood backing up Almiron, ASM and Wilson it doesn't inspire confidence.

In terms of the World Class comment, Bruno can't be far off and Real are said to be sniffing around. Botman will be one day and that's probably about it at the moment.

Probably but they don't have a Kante, Mahrez or Vardy in the side. Obviously they're doing the opposite of "a Leicester", they've spent the budget of a small country to have a mid table looking squad, but it is still pretty impressive that Howe has them where they are on what he's got to work with.

They're winning games on will power and confidence alone half the time, our title win was painted as a "fairy tale" but even now people neglect to recognise we had genuine world class players in the starting eleven where as, as much as the Geordie want to pretend Guimares is more than the Brazilian Danny Drinkwater, they definitely don't (yet.)

I’m guessing you mean Kante, Mahrez & Vardy?

I don’t disagree, but interestingly Jonathan Northcroft in his fabulous book on that season named our 3 world class players as Schmeichel, Kante and Mahrez, while adding that Vardy was world class at what he did!

Always fascinating to read opinions of Newcastle from fans of other clubs. Not sure I agree with everything said, comparing Bruno to Drinkwater is a borderline hate crime.

The thing about Burn at LB, it means Trippier can bomb on down the right flank and Burn tucks in a bit as a 3rd CB. Willock or Joelinton play as an ersatz LWB, the other plays further forward as a pressing wide midfielder/forward. Only really works properly with those two players ahead of him. Stick ASM there and... well... no. Not so much.

I'd take a draw.

So hard to predict. Newcastle have been on a great run and deserve their position in the league and we were looking very good before the break but with a month off? Who knows!

Come back when he has a PL winners medal in his pocket......
