A new Club World Cup is being launched by FIFA - which will feature 32 teams and take place in 2025.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino revealed details of the new tournament at a press conference in Qatar ahead of this weekend's 2022 World Cup final between France and Argentina. Infantino was an hour late to his announced press conference following a FIFA council meeting.

He did reveal some of the outcomes of that meeting, however, including a larger men’s Club World Cup of 32 teams in 2025 and the creation of a women’s Club World Cup, although no start date was given. “The men’s Club World Cup will take place in 2025, the location still needs to be discussed and decided but a 32-team tournament will go ahead,” he said.

A new plan for the March international dates was also discussed. He added: “The principle was agreed to use the March windows, the 10 days in March, in even years – the World Cup years – or Copa America and Euros years is to organise friendly tournaments of four teams from four different federations,” he added.

“A FIFA World Series-type of events, to allow more matches of teams from different confederations.”

Every time FIFA and UEFA add or increase their competitions it has an adverse affect on domestic football.

Isn't there enough football already?

Dont think they are too bothered about a few thousand turning out for lower league matches when they could instead have Manchester United playing Barcelona in Saudi Arabia with an audience of millions.

There won't be a break soon; it'll be all year round.

FIFA are so jealous of the Champions League.  They'd love to destroy it.  I wonder how seriously the top European clubs would take it.  I know one thing the MLS will take it very seriously.  I remember when Chelsea won the club world cup it and then lost in a pre season to Charlotte they pronounced themselves as the new world champions.:D

Of course they're not. But it will even put pressure on to reduce the PL.

Wonder if the International Champions Cup guys will be too happy about this, not too dissimilar from when we'd won the League and played Barça & Celtic pre/post-season.

Gives more Clubs a chance of winning which is nice but the players need a rest, it's non-stop playing though injuries for most, year after year.

This could be a good thing for us

”James, stay with us and get a break every year or go to a bigger club and work 365”

Not sure about that, players want money and the prestige of big clubs. Managers and players will kick up a fuss about this but will take strong teams there once they see the financials.
