Id like to see other people’s view on this?

I personally think if he was still with us , we wouldn’t be in the mess we are in but that’s my own opinion

Do you think he would’ve invested in the club?

Yes. Everything we have achieved over the past 10 years is in danger of being completely undone.

We were established as a top half premier league team, with no danger and not even a hint of discussion about relegation. However you have to continue to invest to stay at that level, and it looks like Tops gamble to invest in facilities rather than the squad may undo all of that work.

At best we are no longer safe and established, at worst we are relegated and struggle to get back up and become the same old yo-yo team of old.

Rodgers would have been gone over a year ago if Vichai was still around.

Don't forget that he left Pearson in charge as we spent 5 months as Premier League no-hopes, routed at the bottom.

Our first season back in the top flight after a decade away. BR inherited an established top half PL squad. Slightly different expectations.

He'd of taken action by sacking Rodgers by now and certainly would not of allowed Rodgers to get away with slagging off the club in the media. He'd of also held the directors to account who'd signed off our massive overspend on wages, which have crippled our ability to spend money on new players

Investment in the club hasn't changed between Vichai and Top and don't think it would be any different now ie they also used the EPL prize money and player sales as the source source of finance for purchasing players and any investment has gone into infrastructure

Most importantly Vichai was the boss, an inspirational & motivational leader at the helm of the ship, which is something we're missing now

Investing in facilities is a long term move, investing in players a short term one, if we need to increase our revenue streams because of FFP, then developing facilities that potentially allow you to produce more players with resale value would be one way to go about it, the big clubs spend a lot more on transfers as they are able to earn a lot more revenue, I'd rather a chairman was thinking of the long term look at Sunderland, Sheffield Wednesday, Ipswich all in the top 8 of the Premiership at one stage, you can't continually spend your way out of trouble

We were playing well and never conceded more than 2 goals. We have no fight in us under BR

While I want Rodgers gone I think Top is following his Father's model. Simply put he won't sack Rodgers unless a replacement is lined up.

I don't think there is a replacement (that would be interested) that fits the vision of the club. The current model is to attract young talent who see us as a stepping stone to greater things and to continue to strengthen and bring through our youth.

That's why I think we are pretty stuck.

100% agree, and it’s what Top said the strategy was in his fan update before the World Cup. However the question is, have thy got the balance between long term and short term investment correct? Have they wrongly assumed that the squad was competitive enough with a good manager to survive for 1 or 2 seasons with minimal investment to allow the long term infrastructure investments to start?

It’s looking like they may have underestimated quite how competitive the Premier League is, and that you simply cannot afford to stand still if you want to stay in it. A couple of key players get long term injured, a couple more lose form, and a couple more reach the end of their careers and all of a sudden you are looking at relegation and everything is potentially lost.

There has to be a healthy balance though. We were clearly in trouble last year with many of the same problems we have now, we responded by selling Fofana, and realistically only signing Faes. That isn't adequately reinvesting that money in the squad which is what we needed.

I don’t think we’ve ever sacked a manager with a replacement lined up.

Always felt it’s taken weeks to appoint a new manager under Vichai and Top.

Being no hopes is the point though isn't it?

Under Brendan we were expected to be up there in the mix for Europe. Now to be 2 points off the bottom is not acceptable.
