Albrighton Joins West Brom

Yes it was, and many said so at the time. The reason given by Rodgers was that Albrighton wanted the move to get more first team football. Just like Schmeichel supposedly 'wanted' to go to Nice, although Schmeichel himself has since said he never wanted to leave. In recent times we seem to have prioritised kind gestures to long-term servants over hard-headed decisions about what was good for the club at the time. The worst example of this being the inclusion of Danny Ward over Daniel Iversen for our first 26 league games, apparently simply because Rodgers felt that Ward should be 'rewarded' for his long-standing service as a number 2, not because he merited it.

 

As time goes on, the full extent of how the club fell apart behind the scenes during Rodgers' tenure will become clear. I bet we haven't heard even half of it yet.

Albrighton wanted to play regularly which he has by going out on loan,  Albrighton don’t play left wing so the issue would have still remained, yes the club was confident the Harrison deal was done until Leeds refused to sign the documents and decided to keep him at the very last moment

Leeds apparently had qualms about strengthening a relegation rival, which does make sense. It's just a bit suspicious that this thought suddenly occurred to them at the last minute when we'd already let Albrighton go...

I love Sharkey, an absolute legend for us. However, players like him, Vardy, Schmeichel and Evans are massively on the decline. It's not their fault... people get old and age catches up with your body. A few % drop difference at the elite level makes you look awful.

 

But keeping him for 20-45 minute cameos to get the energy back into the team could still have been useful. I remember under Shakespeare's caretake shift that he brought Okazaki and Albrighton back into the team, and whilst they lacked quality, the team won because their work rate improve the team collective.

West Brom fans very underwhelmed by Albrighton - all the league winners shd have had sunset contracts - reducing money in line with their diminishing contribution

He's obviously not THE solution, but yeah, more wide options would help team selection. Especially as we have no fit wide options. It's no good having just one fit winger. They kinda have to come in pairs!

Albrighton played as inverted left winger during our title winning season.

We actually have some depth in the squad, but for some reason we keep going back to the same players even if they are not performing, like Ndidi.

 

We are so bad in using our full squad that we had players like Perez, Albrighton, Praet and for a while Mendy who could hardly get a game while the manager cried about needing more players. They may not be worldclass players but surely good enough to give us different options and try something different. Oh and don’t get me started on Nachos who has been totally underutilized despite our losing streak. If we are on a winning streak I get it, but we have been losing, for a long time now.

Not a hot topic right now but two of Marc’s crosses which always stick out for me are West Ham at home (16-17) and Arsenal away (17-18). Sure there are plenty of other notable ones too.

Don't think it was Sharky, but one of Mahrez's goals in his hattrick at Swansea - absolutely miles offside and it still stood because no VAR and the lino was seemingly completely blind.

Definitely agree with this in terms of the fact that we need to move on, & I'd have Albrighton nowhere near the XI. But..

 

Our current 'leaders' are:

 

Jonny Evans: Made of papier-mache, not seen for more than 5 mins for 9 months

James Maddison: Butthurt about his mate Brendan getting the sack, deletes Twitter when people aren't singing his praises

Youri Tielemans: Head turned 18 months ago

 

I don't think it's a totally wild thing to suggest that the dressing room could do with some of the spirit of 2014-2016. Albrighton would maybe bring that?
