Yep - in terms of the FA Cup so have:

Manchester City

Bradford City

Cardiff City

Coventry City

But currently hardly anybody in the world will think of us (or the others) when someone mentions City. They think of Manchester.

“Leicester” is our identity to the outside world

So? If someone knows so little about English football that they think City can only possibly refer to Man City then I don't care what they think and I don't see why I should?

It may not be the best name in terms of branding but we are Leicester City, LCFC, we have been for all of the greatest moments in our history. We aren't LFFC. There's barely anyone alive who was around while Leicester Fosse was in existence. We can pay homage to the past (the blue slash away kit for example) without changing what we are.

Wasn’t a fan back then, so I have to ask - What is a Fosse, and what is it’s importance to Leicester?

The men who founded the club all shopped at Fosse Park, so they named the club after it...

Seriously, I think it's because they met on or near Fosse Road. Either that or the Fosse Way, I can't remember exactly, I haven't read Fossils & Foxes in far too long!

It doesnt bother me that 'City' to most people outside Leicester, Stoke, Cardiff etc are Machester City.

I subconsciously say United to my Newcastle supporting mates when I'm talking about Man Utd.

They're "more" City than us in my head. Their nickname is literally the Citizens. Never really related to the people that get butt hurt at Man City being called just "City." Think they're usually just looking to be offended by something.

I think of us as Leicester first and the Foxes second (not that I'd ever want us to be called Leicester Foxes, we're not fvcking septics.)

Only time I ever really use "City" is as shorthand specifically talking to other Leicester fans, "Who City got at the weekend?", "you down City on Saturday?" etc.

Have to disagree on this. It's fine to call them 'City' if you're either in Manchester or a fan of either Man U or Man C. Failing that, it's presumptuous at best, and at worst it's ignorant, or arrogant, or both. It's not hard to put 'Man' in front of it, ffs. People are absolutely right to call it out.

And all this applies equally to Man Utd being called simply 'United.'

See this is just weirdly overly sensitive to me.

Leicester is a one club city, we're just Leicester. Newcastle are just Newcastle, Leeds are just Leeds. You don't need to make any distinction or clarification when you talk about clubs.

The Manchester clubs are obviously going to be more well known by their "second names" if you will.

If the Sheffield clubs were the two biggest teams in the world then I guess United would be everyone's shorthand for Sheff Utd but they just aren't.

I just don't really get why people let this sort of stuff bother them.

Why? As I said, it doesn't involve a great deal of effort to add 'Man' in front. And it's lazy not to.

Why should we pander to media laziness and/or Manchester fans' arrogance?

I don't mind so much the fans of the clubs doing it - that's obviously what they call them, and that's fair enough.

It gets especially ridiculous when they play another club named City or United and the media STILL simply call them 'City' or 'United.' That really is lazy and rude.

Obviously you don't have to care about it, and if you don't you don't, but I think you're wrong to dismiss out of hand the annoyance felt by those who do!

The Fosse Way Roman Road. Fosse means ditch which ran along the road. The founders of the club named the club Leicester Fosse as the old Road went through Leicester. The old club was basically in dire money troubles in 1919 and reformed. The town received city status from the King after ww1 and the club adopted the suffix

The only time I might get slightly miffed is when we are playing Man C and the commentators call them City

Back then I was all for Leicester Fosse, but then someone said to me that if we changed back to Fosse then they would knock the cathedral down, and I thought “oh shit, what if one day something crazy happens like finding a century’s dead king in a carpark somewhere within the city, they’d be nowhere to bury him and those yorkists would lay claim to his bones”. So I voted City, phew, thank god I did.

Doesn't make much sense now given our history as City but would have been nice to retain a unique name from the beginning like Fosse

Don't forget Syston Fosse were an early rival

Fosse way..look it up..One of the most famous Roman roads..

Also A Fosse is defensive water filled ditch surrounding a fort or small town..

We could become the FFs of football….Fosse Foxes.  Or Foxes of the Fosse.

Then there are the 5 swans, followed by the. 6th…

Following on from this point, Sheffield Wednesday initially started as The Wednesday, I believe.
