One is a football team, the other is a very dull pre-Motorway road.

What have the Romans ever done for us? Killed Sunday jaunts for motorcycles imo.

I prefer Ratae, sounds more street than Fosse, which in it's way, don't.

Not being rude but if you want us to be called Leicester Fosse there's a massive possibility you stink of piss

My names gw_leic and I used to stink of piss.

I've been city now for 17 years now and stopped pissing myself 14 years ago, and showered for the first time 9 years ago.

It's not been easy but with your support, and @Gamble92's support and mentoring....

Up the city (sniff sniff)

So? If someone knows so little about English football that they think City can only possibly refer to Man City then I don't care what they think and I don't see why I should?

It may not be the best name in terms of branding but we are Leicester City, LCFC, we have been for all of the greatest moments in our history. We aren't LFFC. There's barely anyone alive who was around while Leicester Fosse was in existence. We can pay homage to the past (the blue slash away kit for example) without changing what we are.

Yep - I know my view isn’t the most popular.

Fosse would be the most beneficial name for all the more cynical reasons: marketing potential, global growth and recognition, revenue etc. I really do think it would help propel our identity.

But in the minds of the fans - i.e. preaching to those already converted - I get that shaking off the “City” tag would be too big a step for most.

Quite ironic when you think about it, that this vote was cast against Wimbledon, a team whose name/identity was destroyed for commercial purposes under a year later.

I mean the Leicester Rodgers just sounds like some minor league American football team

That's what the young lads in thailand called themselves wasn't it?

What's all the Fosse about. Yes we started out as Fosse but we became City and are every fan knows us as Leicester City. We sing Leicester City, never heard anyone try and sing Fosse.

Not sure they do. They know us simply as Leicester. The City has been dropped mostly from our name by those broadcasters that want to use it exclusively for a Manchester club. Younger fans have now picked up on it, sadly.

Leicester is a rugby club.

For me, and it's probably because I don't live in Leicester and never have, we're "Leicester", Man City are "City" and the rugby club are "Tigers".

If there was another Leicester team, then I guess we'd use "City" for us outside of Leicester to differentiate. But as there isn't it's just "Leicester", so when talking to other football fans "City" is straight away associated with Manchester to differentiate them from United.

Probably strange to people who grew up/live in Leicester, but that's just what I've grown up around and become used to. I don't like it when talking about both clubs at the same time (Like Man City and Leicester City) that one would use "City" and the other not (looking at you Sky/BT), it should just be their full names then. But if only talking about one then referring to Man City as "City" is fine.

I was quite sympathetic to the idea of going back to Fosse. There are any number of Cities and I don't like that (Man) City seem to think they are the only one. However Fosse just seems to have too much potential for mickey-taking by rival fans.

Fun fact: Obviously the Fosse Way goes through Leicester and I now live less than a mile from the Fosse Way as it passes through the West Country. Part of it has degenerated into a muddy track and the modern road is about half a mile to the west, but if I am driving up to the Midlands and I have seen that Brizzawl or the M5 is chocker it is often quicker to drive up the Fosse than the motorway route, which is actually thirty miles further than the direct route up the Fosse.
