City or Fosse

As mentioned in the OTD thread, we were given the choice 20 years ago today, at half time vs Wimbledon, to choose whether we would remain Leicester City or go back to becoming Leicester Fosse.

 

 

I was in the stadium that day and chose Fosse, until it was pretty clear that I was in the minority and turned it around to not look like a plank.

Quite a bit of success is associated with this name (trying not to call the name a 'brand').

Went to that game. Everyone just took the piss and made paper aeroplanes out of the cards whilst they kept pleading with everyone to keep them as souvenirs of a "momentous day"

Voted City (though was only a kid at the time so didn’t really ‘get it’).

 

Have put Fosse on the now but now not sure. I like the idea of it being unique but as someone says above, the success we have had is associated with City.

Voted Fosse and would struggle today.

 

Back then I think we were a little detached from our identity and a new start felt appealing. Now, as folk have said, we're more accomplished as City. 

 

I do like the idea of having something unique though.

I didn’t vote then, but would vote Fosse now. It’s unique and has great marketing potential. It would have a positive effect on revenue I’m sure. 

 

Mention “City” to any fan outside Leicestershire and they’d assume you’re talking about Manchester City. Fosse would be ours. It’s not even against our history as we were Fosse long before we were City. 

 

I realise, however, I’m in the minority on this and the name will never change in my lifetime

For me it has to be City, I can't help but think of Sh*t when I hear the word, Fosse due to living in France!  Fosse sceptique in France = Sceptic tank!

I kinda wish we'd never changed it from Fosse in the first place. The uniqueness would have been good. But seeing as it's been City for - what, a hundred years or more now? - we can't go changing it back.

Leicester Fosse will however be an ideal name for the fan-owned club we set up when we're bought by Vladimir Putin or China or something and some of us decide that's not really acceptable.

Would vote City now. I'm not really fussed between the two and it'd be nice to have something unique so I would still lean slightly toward Fosse, but our biggest and best achievement (and arguably in all of football) is in the record books as 'Leicester City', and for that I think 'City' wins out

Yep - in terms of the FA Cup so have: 

 

Manchester City

Bradford City

Cardiff City

Coventry City

 

But currently hardly anybody in the world will think of us (or the others) when someone mentions City. They think of Manchester.
