He's literally gone from 1st choice and our best player to being behind 5 other central midfielders. Honking from this fraud of a manager.

Maybe...

BR's thinking:

Rotate players to give minutes to some and rest to others.

Draw/narrow loss to Arsenal ok.

Go all out for win on Tuesday with a strong side (only, albeit slim, chance for Europe).

Go all out for 3 points against Southampton.

Rodgers just doesn’t rate him, that means he has to be outstanding in every game to keep his place. Against Man U he was just good so that was him out! Other players can be poor but never lose their place in the team. Step forward Danny Ward.

Gotta laugh at that interview really - he signed a further two year extension in 2020.

A player who was competent rather than adding anything

The way I remember it, his contract actually had expired and then he signed another one. I've no idea if my memory is correct or not, if I'm remembering right though, the interview doesn't make much sense lol

Very underused. He’d have been really good in the Winks position at this level I reckon.

Another example of lack of communication and alienation of certain players…

Boring player. Went backwards and sideways all time. Played a lot under Puel, and Puel liked keeping the ball, and we were awful to watch. Mendy and Ndidi midfield two was horrific.

Very average player who never fully broke into the first team because he simply wasn't good enough. 7 years at the club and he never made any meaningful memorable contribution. One great goal against Spurs and a handful of decent performances is all he has to show form

Winks is such a huge upgrade on him in that role. He’d have been just as pointless in this division as he was in the PL.

Will never understand why people were sad to see Mendy go. All he ever did was play the simplest easiest passes to get his pass success % up and some seemed to think that was the sign of being a good midfielder as he kept it “ticking over”, when he was constantly breaking down counter attacks and missing chance creating opportunities by refusing to ever play anything remotely forward thinking or risky.

He was the perfect Brendan ball player who could pass it around 7,000 times a game without ever doing anything of note with those passes.

I agree Winks is a huge upgrade. Also important to note I said this division. Basically what I meant was he’d have been a good back up (in my opinion) in this system, in this league, to give Winks a break who is currently playing every match.

I’m not saying he was a world beater but would have been useful this season. I don’t think that is a particularly controversial view? :dunno:

Extremely overrated player by our fanbase but do think even despite that he had a relatively rough deal last season.

It's staggering how much Rodgers has cost this club in lost transfer fees, player devaluation and of course relegation.  If the player doesn't fit then sell them and get other players - don't just let them stagnate and release them for nothing several years later.

He's awful really. Total ineptness and we're expected to foot the bill for every shortcoming despite the ridiculous amount we were paying him anyway.

...was he not said to be Puel's midfield general!!!

It always seemed as if he could do so much more in his role and I wondered if he was instructed to keep it simple whilst playing in front of the defence. He would probably be a good option now as part of the double pivot, he always seemed to be playing within himself and given the space he had to operate in, he did not take the opportunity to progress the play himself, to create the extra man in the midfield in that instance.

If I recall, he was about to go out the door and we needed cover so we extended his contract, when ever it seemed his time with us was over, we kept him here as cover. he did not cover himself in glory whilst with us, but we used him to our benefit, knowing his limitations.

I rate Mendy. I won’t repeat all my previous posts talking about his game and why he is such an underrated player. Our fanbase still amazes me sometimes when it comes to criticising our own players who have proven themselves before coming and after. Mendy did well before he joined. He is an African champion with Senegal. He is playing well with Lens and also Champions League football. Other professional coaches with more at stake obviously have a high opinion of him. Yet some foxes fans still think he is not good enough for us in the Championship.

To appreciate this. If Winks was in Rodgers team last year, he would have been sat on the bench and perhaps he would come on occasionally playing backward football - otherwise known as Rodgerball. Fans would have been all over Winks for being such a poor player. Think about that.

We were starting to play better when Mendy was in the team last part of last season. Then when Rodgers was sacked, Ndidi was reinstalled playing in a system where he was bound to fail (playing as a single pivot in front of the back four to beat the press - yep, we all know how that went). Mendy was infinitely better in that role. Just look at the February 2023 comments from above.

We weren’t playing better with Mendy in the team at all. Our win % was actually worse in games he played last season despite Ndidi being awful. That’s exactly what I’m talking about. He had a single good performance vs Spurs and people went insanely over the top on him. Mendy started 7 games last season and the Spurs one was the only one we won. He wasn’t doing game changer at all.
