New TV

We’ve had nothing but issues with our LG over the years and it’s now gone to the great showroom in the sky.

So, does anyone know if LGs have improved over the last few years or am I correct to discount ever buying another?

And anyone have issues with Sony? I love my Sony headphones, ear pods and the PS5 was decent so I have faith in the brand.

I can’t help you with the actual tv choosing as I’m clueless with the specs so will leave that to others, one thing that I wish I knew before I got my last tv a couple of years ago was to google the tv make with your tv provider, (Sky,virgin,Bt) I have a Samsung tv that doesn’t like my sky q box and it wasn’t till I experienced the issues and googled it that I find it was a long ongoing issue

The very fact you've had issues with your LG over the years would suggest to me you do not go down that route again.

Asking for recommendations though will bring about as many suggestions as there are replies.

Having said that, here's my generic take on the topic:

I have always gone for mid/high end Panasonics or Sonys. So far, I have never been disappointed.

Family members often pointed out to me I was paying far more for a TV than they were. However, I can say without exception, my TVs have performed better and far, far outlasted theirs.

That said, I note with despair that even Panasonic now have some of their range manufactured, not by themselves, but Vestel. (Google if you need further info). Panasonic higher end TV's are still manufactured in house - I believe.

I would also suggested buying from Richer Sounds.

Of our last 5 TVs in the house, 3 were Samsung and the other 2 LG.

The only one that developed a fault was the Samsung, a dodgy panel that I think is just down to luck.

Bought a Panasonic for my folks not long ago.

None have really given us any grief from a connectivity/compatibility point of view but I'd say the Samsungs are the most user friendly out of the box

Nice. Cheers.

This is the exact TV I bought 1 year ago in August

Absolutely love it, no issues at all and my PS5 looks brilliant on it

Also managed to get a free LG SN4 Soundbar with it (still sat in its box and not used though, no where to put it )

I generally buy LG and never had an issue with any of them.

If you end up buying an OLED TV, it will generally have LG parts as it is their technology.

But honestly, just go with the best one for you within your budget. Either by reviews or just looking at them in the shop. People like different types of screen which you don't really notice till you have a few side by side.

Never really go for something with massive spec as it doesn’t really make a difference to me. Always had Samsung (whichever one is on offer at the time) and never let me down.

Can get 5% off at Samsung or 10% on top of 25% discount on Sony QLED TVs if you’re getting one direct from either supplier. Not sure if that’ll save you much compared to Currys etc.

Yeah I was amazed by the quality for something under 1k. We are limited to the size we can have but the 48 is perfect for us.

We had a 42 inch LG that we bought in 2012 ( for the London Olympics) and it worked well until we replaced it with a more modern LG 42in last year. The new one works brilliantly - apart from the stupid LG Magic remote which has a floating cursor - as with a computer mouse. You can work around it, but it really is a pain in the proverbial. But the picture and sound q

are excellent, so I put up with it.

I bought a mid range 49” LG TV 3 years ago that I still love. I think the magic remote is great. It’s all down to personal opinion my good fellow.

We've got 2 Samsung TV's both are 55" 4K HD , now nearing 10 years old, never had an issue with either. The previous 2 were also Samsung, they lasted well too. And never had an issue connecting any of them to the Sky Q or Virgin boxes.

Hadn't looked at new Tv's for years but was astonished at the cost of the OLED ones now, last time I looked they were all about £5k!

I went from LG to Sony 4k LED about 2 years ago & wouldn't go back to LG with its clunky smart tv settings/magic remote.  My Sony works well with Sky Q / PS5 / smart phones etc.  Also bought a Sony refurbished tv (for spare room) several years ago which was good as well.  Usually a few good deals around Black Friday (but appreciate you're looking now!)

The LG C2 OLED is currently the best on the market circa £1k.  Go for the 55".  Which best buy for 2022.  You can still get them although Richer Sounds now do this years only for around 1.6k.  John Lewis do the 65", Currys still list the 55".

Screen quality is incredible as you would expect at this price point.  Remote is a little awkward but you'll get used to it.  Smart features are fine, 4k streaming looks impressive.  Standard definition TV and sports also good.

It has a specialist gaming mode which gives you all the nerdy figures for frame rate etc as you play the games.  lol

Now is the time to buy at a good rate before the new models really kick in.

I switched from a Panasonic plasma which was superb and it's taken many years for the current tech to surpass plasma imo.  The blacks are now incredible on it.
