You don’t think we’re going down the shitter?

Versus our expectations yes, but 3 teams get relegated every year, so nothing out of the ordinary here.

In fairness, if he’s not required in the match day squad and hasn’t been told to attend, he can go and watch Spurs if he wants.

I’m sure you’re right. But posting on SM whilst the match is taking place is hardly a good look. It seemed calculated and deliberate. The Enzo sign in Copenhagen also.

I would rather we move individuals like this out the club but when the culture is rotten from Top to bottom, people are probably right in saying Winks is not a major problem.

it is one thing to instil discipline, and another to demand something which is contrary to the players contract.  If they are not required by contract to stay at Seagrave, they cannot be compelled to do so.  Imagine your boss telling you to stay at your workplace once a week.  Its something which has to be agreed upfront imo.  Blown out of proportion.

But we aren’t privy to what has happened. Do you really think RVN would have demanded it if Winks performances were good? No. If he’s training badly and performing poorly and the manager deems that travelling from a way is a factor, if he is getting there late etc, he has the right to ask for more commitment.

And if I earned that much and was asked to be away from home one night a week I’d damn well do it as well!

It’s representative of the shit culture and entitlement that runs through the club from the owner down.

I wouldn't be surprised if the whole thing was an attempt to look tough to be honest.  Poor leaders do stupid things.  Agreed this is an example of poor culture, but not necessarily from the players.

Van Nistelrooy apparently fell out with upper management, his own staff, and players at PSV

Might well be the right thing he wants to do but if he goes about it like a tosser…

Was it Okoli or Facundo in the end that he fell out with about their boots? I mean ffs

I would put money on there being a complete absence of any sort of management around the club at the time this all kicked off, and i include the Vestergaard incident in that as well.

I'm of course making this all up, but i imagine Ruud was mighty peeved off he got next to nothing of what he was promised, and the club have gone into a self preservation mode which involves largely ignoring him, especially when they realise Ruud isn't the manager they wanted anyway (and i am sure those who realise this don't want to tell Top to preserve their own image). Ruud is a mardy git anyway (and demanding) so takes this out on certain players in certain situations and Winks being the character he is, in the situation he is in, has (maybe wrongly) stood up for himself. Ruud goes off on one and the club do the bare minimum to appease the situation.

I imagine the plan will be to dump Ruud, do the whole 'new management and everyone is back in the frame' bollocks and the club will hope we all forget this ever happened.

If Harry Winks stays and our manager ends up being RM, he'll end up being an asset in the Championship, just like he was in 23/24 season. No he's wasn't good enough this year in the system we adopted (well we had no system under Cooper), but he was one of our better performers under Enzo's leadership for the majority of the season.

Championship he will do fine under the right manager but if by some miracle we were to go up he would be no more than a squad player.

This overpaid Leicester City player robbed the Foxes blind this season
Leicester City are hemorrhaging money with this player.

Leicester City didn't stand a chance in the Premier League last season, finishing their return campaign to the English top flight in 18th, 13 points behind Tottenham Hotspur in the last safe position in the league table.

There were many reasons for Leicester's failure to achieve their most important goal of safety, but the biggest reason was how badly their most expensive signings and most highly paid players flopped in the 2024/25 season.

No player epitomized this level of disappointment more profoundly than experienced center midfielder Harry Winks. Despite earning £4.68 million last season (or £90,000 per week), Winks played like a sub-professional footballer and seemed to act like one too, falling out with both managers, Steve Cooper and Ruud van Nistelrooy, during the season.

It got so bad with Winks that Van Nistelrooy even chopped the 29-year-old off his squad entirely after his final tussle with the Englishman, as Winks refused to compromise on a very basic request to lodge closer to the facilities so he didn't have to commute 100 miles to Leicester.

Only Jamie Vardy made more money
Causing problems like that is bad enough, but Winks's play on the pitch was even worse. In 17 starts last season around more injury woes, Winks was a complete failure and statistically one of the worst midfielders in the Premier League.

Winks was tied with forward Odsonne Edouard as the second highest-paid player on Leicester City behind striker and club legend Jamie Vardy. For a defensive midfielder to make that much money at a newly-promoted side in comparison to his peers and even the forwards, you would have expected a lot more from Winks.

Instead of being an experienced and stabilizing hand in the middle of the pitch, Winks was a big part of the chaos on and off the pitch. He was overrun regularly and a massive reason why Leicester City were such a sieve as a team.

Winks averaged just 1.1 tackles and 0.4 interceptions per game and yet was gashed on the dribble 0.8 times per match. He averaged just 0.7 combined dribbles completed and fouls drawn per game, offering no real defensive cover or ball progression to Leicester City and only limited creativity with two assists.

A woeful player for years at Tottenham who never came close to the unreasonable hype he got, Winks then became a key part of Sampdoria's downfall with his horrible midfield play. Now at Leicester City, Winks has hopefully been finally exposed as one of the biggest busts in English football in recent memory - a dreadful midfielder stealing paychecks and starting jobs from far more deserving players.

I'm probably over thinking it but he didn't seem happy or bothered when we scored either goal, just walked away on his own.

Maybe a bit of anger he wasn’t afforded the chance to have an impact last season still lingering. Proving yourself right can be bitter sweet.

Fully transactional relationship with winks

Think he’s very good player, think he looked quite good at times last year in prem.

His behaviour and attitude was disgusting, ‘Enzo we miss you’ ffs

Very happy for him to get us promoted, but will never like him.

Tbh besides his behaviour last season I don’t think many can grumble about him starting for us. Wasn’t bought for a disgusting price either which helps. He is in the top 10 midfielders at this level just needs to tell his friend Skipp to **** off

He’s a modern day midfield Cameron Jerome. One of the best players in his position at this level but cant quite make the same impact when making the step up. Unless we find a prime Moussa Dembele regen i’d get one last good season out of him then part ways as amicably as possible.

Noticed it too. He’s a good player at this level but he doesn’t want to be here. Like many others, it’s why I think Marti has a really tough job and he will get my full support.

That's probably the worst comparison I've seen! 😂

Winks has played at a reasonable level in the prem and has had ok games for us and Spuds.

Jerome never played in the champions league to my knowledge.

Its a stretch i know but its more to illustrate the point that he was very good for us at this level but nothing more than average/below average at Premier League level.

In fairness his best games for Spurs came next to Moussa Dembele bullying everyone like i mentioned above, as soon as Dembele fell off so did Winks and he was eventually sold to us.

Winks is like a Carrick, Pirlo or Jamie Redknapp style player (although not upto their standard obviously).  Basically a great passer, doesn't have much pace, isn't going to score many goals or win many tackles - but can dominate the game if given time on the ball.  If you are the stronger team players like this can be a huge asset as they get a lot of possession, but when you are the weaker team the game often bypasses them and they look like a passenger.  Which is why Winks will be great for us this season in the championship and should be starting as often as possible.   It's also sadly why he looked crap in the premiership with us!

I don't think I'll ever really warm to him after last years antics but we are all of a sudden extremely weak in midfield and if he went it would get even worse. He's gonna have to start. I can't watch Soumare play for us again.
