I'm not really that worried about him making mistakes. Players make mistakes, particularly ones without that much first-team experience. If he ends up dropping clangers week after week then obviously that's different but we're not there yet.

His distribution however I think has the potential to be a big problem. I know some of our more...let's say old-fashioned supporters get very cross at the suggestion it's helpful for your goalkeeper to be able to kick the ball vaguely in the direction they want it to go, but it is.

Standard knee jerk reaction on here. Not great with the ball at his feet but he's got plenty of excellent attributes.

Yes, he should have done better with the first but when you watch the replay, you can see that he (ironically) can't really see the ball. Defenders were shocking for that goal.

He's plenty good enough for us right now. Will make mistakes but he's overall been pretty good.

He did similar against Man City where he needed to push the ball away from goal, not palming it in to a danger area

Was poor today. Kicking was terrible and could have done much better with the save that lead to the first. This was always going to happen with a younger keeper though and we do now have genuine competition. No questions of changing the keeper yet for me though.

I think it makes it clearer why we got that young Spanish goalkeeper. I dont think Marti is going to let Jakub keep punting the ball into the stands, without consequences.

The young Spanish keeper that’s 2 years older than Stolar? Stolar has been ok this season, he’s either really good or really bad imo but that’s to be expected when this is his first proper season. I think people are going to be surprised if they think Vieites kicking is better than Stolars, from all accounts he’s of the same mould decent shot stopper but not very good with his feet

Off the back of 2 clean sheets. Won us the game against Charlton.

He’s good with his feet short. Long is an issue but they can work on that. I thought his CBs were sh1t first half. First shot he should have put out for a corner ( a bit like I think his PL start last year) but his CBs were no where. 2nd was brain dead from Soumare. Other than that he was ok but not a great game from him.

Presume there are pellets for him because he’s from the academy. Sad.

Ffs. Can't believe some of the comments about him. He's an excellent keeper. Being a keeper is the most exposing position on the pitch. The more he plays the better he will get.

Absolutely terrible comment.

It's not.

He can and does make costly mistakes, poor kicking, OK a  good shot stopper but doesn't command his box enough on opposition crosses/corners.

I'd take him above Ward every day but I don't think he's a strong enough character to be hounding his defenders when they fvckk up.

He's a very highly rated keeper still at the start of his career.  Still developing.

He's going to be quite special imo and it saddens me to read from those not being able to appreciate it when we have a real talent coming through.

100%.

At what cost? And for how long?

The term "excellent" applies to the Schmeichels , de Gea, Allison, Cech and others. But I guess that depends on your own standards

I have said I'd take him over Ward but that's a low bar. I want him to do well as I like seeing good GK's (I tried to emulate Shilton in my playing days)  but for me, something is lacking. Maybe time and games will improve him, I hope so.

All that said, Hermanson was poor today.

Schmeichels long kicking was horrific in general and he'd played over 400 games for us. Jakub has played about 20. Keepers mistakes will always be more obvious. At Charlton he made one of the best saves I've seen in years.

Jakub's only played 63 games in senior football, by his age Kasper had played double that amount.

So?

As I said, hopefully game time will improve him.

At first I thought he just howlered, but late deflection, not much he could do.

For a keeper I dont care about ball at feet, thats not what keepers are for.

Probably best keeper since Kasper.  Yes I think he is better than Mads.

Finanlly someone who sees it much the same as me. He has a much better command of his area than Mads, Is an excellent shot stopper.

While being good with your feet is a bonus it's not the first rquirement of a Keeper, Clean sheets are.

He will improve his distribution with proper Coaching and more games. He was somewhat unlucky with both Goals today.

His best is still to come.

There is an air of MoTM one week and calamity the next week which is no good to man nor beast for building long term confidence but he's a work in progress.

If he's capable of the sublime once every few games then he's got the ingredients to do it more and it needs to be fine tuned. Distribution is as chaotic as Hermes over Christmas though, RUN FOR THE HILLS.
