I feel like games against Cardiff, Huddersfield and Rotherham shouldn't have been tight and the Coventry game we were way too open. I get its early and implementing tactics etc but these players in the main are a class above this level and they haven't been playing like it.

The fight is definitely back though you're right. The bar couldn't get any lower though after the shit served up by last year's cowards.

I'm inclined to think that we're doing as well as we are because our players are a class above and are playing like it - had we been using largely EFL level players, i think we'd be miles behind where we're at and probably have lost or drawn all these games.

Right now it is taking all their skill and ability trying to absorb and learn the new system and their new teammates - this is what makes it so exciting: the idea of how good we can be when the skill sets of these players is focused on the game and the goal, rather than the leaning process.

Anyone have a number for how many they have on international duty

and

how many we have on international duty ?

I count 10 for them - Bazunu (IRE), Bednarek (POL), Harwood-Bellis (ENG U21), Smallbone (IRE), Manning (IRE), Armstrong (SCO), Charles (NIR), Aribo (NGR), Edozie (ENG U21), Adams (SCO)

11 for us - Hermansen (DEN), Ward (WAL), Faes (BEL), Doyle (ENG U21), Souttar (AUS), Nelson (ENG U20), Ndidi (NGR), Casedei (ITA U21), Fatawu (GHA), Iheanacho (NGR), Daka (ZAM) - or 10 if you don't count Ward.

Hopefully we take at least a couple of speculative shots against Bazunu, he is shocking and will just drop them in himself

Let's hope we hit the target this season.

Nacho could have had a hat trick in the away game and Souttar missed a sitter.

that would be my starting 11, think Fatawu could have Manning on toast with his pace, think the game could be too soon for Coady too tho, more than likely be on the bench for that

think it will be a draw in the end, hopefully we win but as long as we dont lose

This has to be it for me. The wing positions are crucial as that’s where they will leave space, we need the most clinical players there and as well as mcateer and mavidua have been playing, their decision making is still being worked on.

...I would have McAteer on the left instead of Mavididi!!!

McAteer had his defender on a yellow very early and wouldn't challenge him to commit, either by going on the outside or going inside, and was then just laying possession off to supporting players. If the defender has dropped a yard or so on him then take him on, he will (defender)either have to win these battles or get help from another defender. If there is a word which should be carved into the players psyche and that is "brave", we are not, in moments when we should be.

ABSOLUTELY SPOT ON!

yeah - lets worry about possession, not football.

Should cancel each other out. Total yawn-fest for the fans.

Oh you beat me to it.

I'll be incredibly surprised if this is not the most slow tempo, exhibition passing keep football esq game so far. If not the whole season.

YES WE ALL KNOW WHY ( see the tactics thread)

But the thing is,  both teams will make mistakes that the other can actually punish.

People take me wrong when I get on my high horse about 'possession football' but I am actually aware of the importance of accurate, fast, progressive passing.

My problem is with passing for passing's sake.

Oh, they say (the 'wise' ones) you need to have the ball to win the game. AND, they say, I am a dinosaur to think otherwise.

Well, to me, exciting football DOES involve passing. But football is about a heck of a lot more:

Tackling, dribbling, shooting, corners, throws, saves, punches, headers, flick ons, off-sides, fouls, blocks, speedy wingers, hard defenders, nutmegs, sweepers, midfield maestro, the ref, crosses, bookings, bit of banter, chants, tribal fans, passion, pressure, tricks, skills etc etc etc.

Call me old fashioned but I prefer FOOTBALL to KEEPBALL !!!

His reputation is somehow growing with every game he misses.

We are going to be very disappointed when he finally does play a competitive game aren’t we lol

Noticed its started happening with Praet again. Apparently hes the solution to some of our problems, largely because he's out injured. I am looking forward to seeing Coady, but im not convinced he is going to be a massive step change / revelation for us. I do feel the leadership benefits will shine through over time.

Clearly, Nacho needs a month or so on the bench for everyone to think he's the saviour once more.

I agree with your 1st point.

Whilst we navigate through this learning phase of Enzo's Idea, we are more than capable of a mistake or two, but it doesn't detract from the fact that both teams will want the lions share of possession, hence the possibility of numerous spells of spectator boredom (for some) whilst both teams play the "patient" build up, dragging players out of possession looking for the holes to exploit routine.

We loose it middle of the park, they go back to the keeper/ defence to start the process of dragging players about and hole finding,  loose it to us and we do the same as we have seen before.

We as spectators may get lucky at some point and see a team break the cycle and not go back to 'reset'  and go for it. ( I hope it's us as when we do go forward with pace and aggressive intent we look dangerous)

It's irresistible force meets immovable object time.
