A few things I've tried recently:

Salami, ham and cheese toastie.

1. Get 4 slices of Aldi tiger bloomer

2.Butter/margarine/cold press rape seed oil/extra virgin olive oil on the bread /leave off (your choice)

3.Add a layer of cheese slices on two of the bread slices.

4. Add  layer of salami

5. Add another layer of cheese slices

6. Add layer of ham

7. Cook for about 15 minutes on 200.

Note: my 5.5L takes two of the Aldi tiger bloomer sandwiches landscape (I'm not sure if you'd stuggle with a smaller size airfryer or the volume comes from more height than width)

Chicken breast wrapped in bacon with garlic roule.

1. Get 2 chicken breasts and make an incision with a sharp knife creating a pouch in the breast.

2. Stuff pouch with garlic roule cheese.

3. Wrap each chicken breasts with 2 bacon rashers.

4. Place in tin foil and put in airfryer for 20-25 mins on 180.

Also I can confirm the Aldi in beef dripping chips (a little more expensive) are as good as those chips you get at a posh restaurant where you think "why can't I make chips like this?"

I'm mostly cooking for just me, MrsG eats weird concoctions. I've found it very useful for that reason and rarely use the oven but still use the hob and microwave.

The 'ovens' on mine aren't dishwasher proof so are hard to clean so I use these and chuck them in the dishwasher.

Steel (non coated) loaf trays or round steel bowls are essential in my opinion. I put everything in them and cover with foil. I then usually cook at 200 degrees for 25 minutes. If you need to crisp the top of a dish such as lasagne. Whip the foil off for the last 5 mins. Works a treat.

Are these things still in vogue now? I don’t have a gas supply so reliant on electricity for cooking.
While my wife is working away, normally for a week at a time, I feel it’s a waste of electricity putting hobs/oven on just for me so I’m looking for alternatives. It would probably be used when she’s home too so would need to be a reasonable size.
Any recommendations on alternative ways of cooking or if they’re worth it, makes and models?

Now used one every day since December lol

Got a 6.5 Litre one from asda for £28 about 6 months ago, used it everyday since and hardly used the big electric oven since, cooks food much faster, saves energy and really easy to clean.

I also use it in the garden when it is hot outside so it does not heat up the house.

Picked mine up from Costco. Use it pretty much on a daily basis. Great piece of kit. 2 Chicken breast (Butterflied) seasoned with Cajun with pesto, slices of mozzarella and chorizo. Fold it back over and in the Air fryer (piece of foil on the bottom of the tray) for 18 mins.

I have a 2 tray air fryer. so chips in 1 tray and 2 chickens in the other. Easy to clean afterwards. Always a winner.

I like to cook. I hated on air fryers as a useless gimmick that would take over valuable countertop space... then I got one for Christmas. I use it almost every day. Chicken nuggets for the little one? Air Fryer. Roasted Veggies? Air Fryer. Skin on, bone in Chicken Thighs and Drumsticks? Air Fryer. Cooks food quicker, uses energy more efficiently, heats up your home less. My only regret is not getting a bigger air fryer.

As someone who doesn't like the sound of a diet of chicken nuggets and chips I've not got one.

Does anyone make proper food with them?

We do stuff like salmon, roast chicken, steaks, jacket spuds etc. in the air fryer (if that counts as proper food)

Just find it quicker/cheaper than using the oven/hob and less washing up after.

Tastes pretty much the same IMO.

Pretty much anything you would use an oven for can be cooked in an air fryer, they are essentially just small fan ovens. The size of them is the main limitation, I still use my oven for pizza, baking cakes, and things like lasagne and moussaka where the dish doesn't fit.

Aha. Now I understand.

Yep, it would be as redundant as the wife’s foot spa, I rarely use an oven except for pizza.

I choose to read this as, "I frequently use the oven; mmmmm, pizza."
