I feel like this is the Ranieri topic after he got sacked. Some sentimental and some realistic of the end.

Vardy has been in decline for 12 - 18 months. He’s still rumoured to be on over £5,000,000 per year.

Unfortunately football has no place for sentiment. Unless he wants a deal like Kevin Phillips had with us, then I wouldn’t begrudge him leaving.

He’d be effective in a lower standard league and would still do a job in the Championship if played in a two I think. However, MLS aren’t going to pay him what we do either. As much as we love him, he’s not a world class name, like Messi, Rooney, Ibrahimovic etc

Saudi maybe an option, but it depends if that’s his thing.

They’ve lost money in a court case, however £1,000,000 to the Vardy family is like throwing a deck chair off the titanic. It’s not really going to be missed. He could easily retire at the end of this season.

Albrighton also leaves at the end of the season as well most likely. I’d welcome a game for the likes of King, Vardy, Morgan, Albrighton etc against a select XI.It would be well attended!

Yep. Footballers get huge wages, to compensate for short careers, and JV has hardly been at the bottom of our pay scale. He's earnt every penny of his huge salary, but now he has to face the same challenges of life we all face (albeit with a few million behind him). Giving him extended contracts when he's no longer able to contribute at the Premier level is crazy. We need that money to pay for new players and options.

We don't know if the story has a few sides to run  yet, even if it's in the last chapter..

J. Vardy as earnt the respect to choose  the last paragraph & wordings of the Epilog..

This is one story we don't have to force, and can allow to play out..

Will be sad to see him go but he's way past it now and is barely up to it at Championship level which is mostly Godawful. Think the people calling for him to get a final big payday from either ourselves or abroad seriously underestimate how much dough he's made over the last decade. He must be worth at least £30m!

He's fit for Ipswich, Enzo confirmed yesterday. Trained the last two weeks.

Ah, thanks Ric. I’ve been so busy at work that I’ve not kept pace with stuff. That’s great news.

Agree with all that, bar the 12-18 months bit. I'd say the decline started 3-4 years ago now.

Heart says stay but head says we need to move on now.

3-4 years captures the second half of the 19/20 season (23 goals, golden boot winner), 20/21 (15 goals) and 21/22 (15 goals). I'll absolutely have this season and last but to claim 3-4 years is absurd

Yeah the season before last he had the best goals to minute ratio in the PL. To say his decline happened 3-4 years ago is bananas. Definitely since the start of last season he seemed to drop off a cliff that summer though.

Personally I'm already at the point of enjoying every minute of him on a football pitch while I can. Same with Albrighton.

You might see a grown man cry if either of them bags one towards the back end of the season.

Change the name of Old John to Old Vards.

It's the very least he deserves.

Don't,  just don't.  Within a year it will be painted King Power and have a statue of Rudkin and Whelan snogging in the arch.

If he wants a pay to play/ pay per goal contract only (no salary); he can stay as long as he wants.

What I would REALLY like is the little gremlin to fill Birch's shoes.

Eh. Thats thankfully illegal for obvious reasons. You can’t tell someone to come to training or play and then not pay them neither can you offer them contracts like that without things like paid holiday days in between.

Like begging for an encore that you know isn't coming. It's the last season, isn't it?

As much as I like the idea of 'just one more year in the Premier League' I don't see it happening from either party's perspective.

The ownership will have to make that last game something special.

Everybody, except perhaps Maddison, did though. His increasing injuries is really the main concern here. He's had to adapt his playstyle the last few years with his pace dropping off and he has done that well. However, if he's never match sharp, his usefulness is severely limited.

His return from injury in Spring 2022 was a big reason we avoided getting sucked in to a relegation battle that season. We hadn't won in the league that year before he came off the bench against Burnley away and changed the game - their defenders couldn't cope with him. We then went on a bit of a mini run before picking up those wins at the end of the season where I think he scored 4 or 5 goals and ended up finishing 8th. For me the decline was only really obvious from the start of last season.

He’s not the type of striker that  enzo would want to play, ideally. Same with Daka. I just can’t handle him and Albrighton leaving at the same time. I think if he takes us up, leave on that note.

Can he cut another year in the prem if we go up even as an option for the last 20 or should he try and spend a year in the MLS.

Going Saudi is not going to happen imo.

Whatever he chooses he will always be a legend here.

For me it's time for him to move on/retire. The last contract we gave him was crazy and fundamentally those contracts we gave out either to legends or new players were why we got relegated.

I would NEVER have given him those last 2 years if he wasn't the best we've ever had.

Any new contract will be like sabotage

Absolute rubbish……..it depends upon the terms which is relevant!

IF he plays and shows form between now and the season ending - we get promoted and he was interested in renewing we would be mad on revised terms NOT to have him in the squad next season - his experience off the bench and training with Cannon alone could be invaluable …..I do agree that it cannot be on his current wages …..he may accept this and want to be here and accept significantly reduced terms……
