Middlesbrough (H) 1-2 - Post-Match Thread

Recommended Posts

Way off the pace and some pretty poor performances. We have a healthy lead but you can't win games with that many players below par. Didn't get putting Cannon on the wing and I think given we're not used to being in that position at HT we went a bit scattergun with the subs.

Do also think the lethargy from second half Tuesday might have been a factor, they were never going to get as shite as shef weds were.

Vesty has had a remarkable turnaround but he does make me mad being so poor in the air for his size.

On to the next...

The no.28( I think) was head and shoulders above anyone else.

We were poor, bad day at the office.

They had a few decent chances too so take the blue tinted specs off👍🏾

Dont think we had an actual shot on target until 60 minutes.

No but we missed two sitters in the first twenty minutes. The stats from the game suggest we battered them.

No blue tinted specs at all. On another day we’d have had 3 or 4 if it wasnt for such poor finishing. Created more then enough to comfortably win on another day. Thought they defended well and took their chances but wouldnt say they were the better side

Some of our passing was p1ss poor.

Most players below par.

Just hope this is a wake up call that we cant just turn up for games and win👍🏾

Likewise the numbers of gifts we’ve given away and teams haven’t scored from because of the terrible standard in this league means we’re reliant on poor finishing to not be in the bottom half.

I'm not sure what to make of this statement other than it's a league of poorer teams than us. Which is mainly true. But we're not "reliant" on teams poor finishing.

Just maybe fortunate that the other teams are, generally, not very good by comparison.

Not that we are all that great ourselves at times.

Cannon on the left wing was a bizarre decision

Indeed. If anything you put Daka with his pace out there surely!

Feel a bit sorry for Cannon to be honest. Didn’t put a fit wrong during his starting run and no resigned to that, his clinical finishing could of been the difference in that first half.

Daka missed a sitter, Vesty missed 2 sitters, Vardy missed a sitter. 3 of those were somehow skewed off target when it was easier to hit the target. We were the better team over 90 minutes but couldn’t score. We weren’t as good as we can be and Boro did well, I thought their midfield in particular were good but ultimately it was a case of one team scoring almost every chance they had and the other team seemingly unable to hit a donkey’s arse with a banjo today.

I completely agree with you. I was trying to make an OTT statement. We are the clear and apparent best team in the league and that’s why we’ll win it by a country mile. It’s also true that we give up chances every match, and teams miss them, but that further shows why we’re the best team in the league

My OTT statement was in response to the spurs-esque comments stating boro were reliant on a vardy miss to win. Obtuse and bizarre thinking

We haven’t really got specialist LW replacement for Mavididi but he was so poor in the 1st half (following on after a poor second half against Sheff Wed) that he was always likely to be subbed off. Cannon always looks threatening when he plays and I thought he did ok but ultimately we aren’t spoilt for choice on that side.

My point still stands and I wasn't spinning it. Calling gifted goals "clinical" is just wrong.

Maybe I'm being pedantic, but I felt too much credit was given to their goals.

Yep they were clinical. But come on, we did more than enough to win that, even though we were poor. Shots on target or not. We’ve missed about 4 serious chances, 2 first half, 2 second.
