Brilliant in possession today, but the first goal comes about because he’s switched off.

The problem we have is that he gives us so much in possession, especially with BEK and Buonanotte around him, but most matches we concede a goal because he’s switched off and not tracked or marked a man.

The brain farts and lapses in concentration are infuriating. He has so many good qualities and we're so much more fluid moving the ball between the thirds with him there.

2nd goal too. He's just standing there with his thumb up his arse (along with Kristiansen) watching Haaland nod it in, instead of making a challenge.

On the ball he's improving no end. But these lapses in concentration are killing us almost every game he plays.

Soumare in possession was never really the issue… his awareness…or should I say lack of it was always apparent, and still is..

he has been one of our better performers this season.. not difficult tbh..

but he still has a side to his game that will continue to cost us goals.. our midfield in winks/Soumare still doesnt offer any help to a crumbling back 4

I don’t see the negatives, he’s been brilliant so far this season imo. He’s the player now that I wanted to see when we signed him.

How long until we see fans turning up with no shirt (like those mad topless Geordie fans) with ‘get your Boubs out’ smeared on their chest?

The bad outweigh the few good runs he makes.

Brain dead player in a defensive role.  It’s strange as when he bombs forward players bounce off him, when he attempts to defend he barely stops an attack and is lightweight. He doesn’t close down, track or tackle, something we need more than him carrying the ball.  many times he will run with a player in midfield then just peel away leaving them to carry on the attack or cross.

The last three games he’s been at fault for goals, either leaving a man unmarked to follow the ball when he doesn’t need to or like the Salah goal, catches up then stops and watches him shoot when he could’ve carried on and made a tackle or rush his shot.

We need someone like KDH who can actually use his brain in midfield.

100% agree with this. He’d work well in a flatish midfield 3 I think, but then you wouldn’t be able to play with a proper number 10. I don’t think he’s got the positional discipline to play in a 2. When Ndidi comes back I wonder if Soumare might be better utilised as an attacking option off the bench.

Feels like you are wilfully focusing on the bad, he is much improved and yes he makes mistakes, but if he didn’t he would not be here. Did you lambast Vardy for his shocking performance last game? Yes a legend, but mistakes from legends have exactly the same cost as those by new signings or anyone else. Vardy cost us more last game imo.

Wilf’s lack of ability to make progressive passes will always hold him back a bit I suspect.

Straw man argument to play the contrarian.  I wouldn’t really compare a poor performance from an aging club legend to a young midfielder who makes the same mistakes constantly.

Of course I focus on his bad as that is having more of an impact on the team and results than a bombing run every game.

Apart from the assist against Ipswich, he has provided little to no value in all his time here.

We tend to focus on assists/goals as the only output of value, something made more polarising by the understandable merit given to xG, etc.

Soumare  recently has broken up attacks, has an eye for a pass (prior to the assist) and he has undoubtedly contributed. I totally agree that in the past he was hugely underwhelming, I think as well as recognise his flaws, he worst being that he is too unaware of his surroundings at times, we also should recognise improvement, especially when it is to such a significant degree.

It was not a straw man as I took from your point that Soumare was costing us points, I merely argued that he was not the worst candidate, so therefore did not warrant your sole focus.

Does anyone else want to try or is soumare playing on his own?

Soumare and bilal were our best players today. They both look like they care and are up for the fight. Kristianson looked up for it tonight. I wouldn’t bother with Skipp any more. Fumbling and bumbling round ont he periphery   I don’t blame him for that it was RVN who bought him on.

Funny that all the criticism about him was how lazy he looks yet to me he is one of the few who seems to be putting everything in.

Totally agree no one else showed any urgency or desire to break out of walking
