Sly Posted 17 May 2024 Posted 17 May 2024 https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/leicester-to-battle-man-city-for-seria-a-goalkeeper-signing/ Leicester City in transfer chase with Man City for 22-year-old Published 16 minutes ago The Foxes are preparing for a return to the Premier League Following their relegation from the Premier League at the end of last season, this campaign has been a much more successful one for Leicester. The Foxes have won an immediate promotion back to the top-flight of English football this season, doing so as title winners. As a result, they are now preparing for a return to the Premier League, and with strengthening the squad set to be a part of that, a new transfer target now looks to have been identified. Leicester City keen on Christos Mandas As per this latest update, Leicester are showing an interest in Mandas following their promotion this season. It is claimed that Foxes manager Enzo Maresca is keen to add the former Greek youth international to his side for the coming campaign. However, reigning Premier League champions Manchester City are also thought to havemonitored the goalkeeper. Mandas only joined Lazio last summer, signing from OFI Crete in his native Greece for a reported €900,000. He has since gone on to make 12 appearances in all competitions for his current club. Lazio are seventh in Serie A as things stand, four points adrift of a Champions League place as things stand. It is suggested that it would cost around €15million (£12.9million) to secure the services of Mandas this summer. As things stand, there are just over four years remaining on the goalkeeper's contract with Lazio, securing his future with the club until the end of the 2027/28 season. That of course, ensures that the Serie A side are in a strong position to respond to any offers that come in for Mandas once the market has opened. Christos Mandas could be a decent signing It does look as though the Lazio goalkeeper could be a useful addition for Leicester if they were to get this deal done. Mandas was initially second-choice when he arrived in Italy, but stepped in recently following an injury to number one goalkeeper Ivan Provedel. The 22-year-old has seemingly done well in that time, having kept his place in the starting XI for the last two games despite Provedel returning to fitness with a place on the bench. That seems to indicate that Mandas is a solid top-flight goalkeeper, who could do a job for Leicester in the Premier League if they were to bring him to The King Power Stadium. However, it is worth noting that Mads Hermansen, Danny Ward, and Jakub Stolarczyk are all currently in Maresca's squad, while Daniel Iversen set to return from a loan spell at Stoke as well. Signing Mandas would surely make exits in that position even more likely this summer, since they are surely not going to need so many senior goalkeeping options for next season. It may also be intriguing to see if this is a deal can afford and are willing to pay for, considering the scrutiny they will be under after investigations into Foxes' spending for breaching Profit and Sustainability limits. With that in mind, this does feel like a link that is well worth keeping an eye on for Leicester, over the course of the next few weeks.

It's the one area we don't need anyone! 2

-sodapop Posted 17 May 2024 Posted 17 May 2024 He's very highly rated but surely a totally unnecessary signing unless we're somehow shifting at least 2 goalkeepers this summer? 1
Popular Post Dan Posted 17 May 2024 Popular Post Posted 17 May 2024 I think I'd almost have to see the funny side if we spent £15mil on a goalkeeper this summer. 11
Langston Posted 17 May 2024 Posted 17 May 2024 We can’t sell Hermansen yet surely, can we have another season of him at least 1
MPH Posted 17 May 2024 Posted 17 May 2024 Very odd to be linked with a GK. It remains a possibility that this is just agent talk to get him a new contract.

Unless we potentially have to sell Hermansen, one of very few players we have where we could make a very good profit on him Club should always be looking at targets for positions even if we aren’t expecting to need one - just in case Edited 17 May 2024 by moore_94 3

VLC86 Posted 17 May 2024 Posted 17 May 2024 Wouldn’t shock me if we sold Stolarzyc to raise some cash but would be a real shame, he looks like the replacement for when Mads moves on.

Popular Post lcfcsnow Posted 17 May 2024 Popular Post Posted 17 May 2024 Stolarczyk is a better goalkeeper than Hermansen, shot stopping and dealing with corners I have more confidence with him. The only area Hermansen is better is passing out from the back but even then he needless risks with it (there's risks and then there's stupidity) which we conceded goals from at Championship level. 4 3
TrentFox Posted 17 May 2024 Posted 17 May 2024 I’m probably a lone voice on this, but I do have a worry that Mads in the EPL - with higher, faster, more effective pressing and better/more penetrative crossing - may not be the solid bet that many think he is going to be. 1 1

Whereas if an outfield player is on your shortlist and available at a cheaper rate, you'd probably go for it and then work out the jigsaw as the window progresses. Basically everything has to line up with a keeper whereas signing a centre mid doesn't necessarily mean a certain CM has to leave in their place; you can change tactics, shift some players into other positions or even getting rid of players of loan more easily etc. since they're just another option in the squad. 1

Don't know about that and I'm saying that as somebody who really rates JS. Hermansen has yet to be properly tested so we'll how that pans out next year. If JS was better with his feet (because let's be honest, he makes several poor giveaways a game) then there would be no issue at all
Tuna Posted 17 May 2024 Posted 17 May 2024 Mads and Jakub are fine, but we need a third choice. Some championship player who will be happy to be 3rd choice, but lets not pay daft money like we did to Smithies. Would be cheaper to do this and loan out Ward and Iversen even if we help out with wages.
Claudio Fannieri Posted 17 May 2024 Posted 17 May 2024 I suppose a lot depends on whether Enzo believes Jakub can step up as a premier league back up, I really like him, his shot stopping and how he bosses his area is very good however given how we play, and I have no doubt he is far better than Ward and Iversen playing out from the back, it doesn’t necessarily mean Enzo believes he is at standard needed for the step up. Bear in mind our back up and squad players have only needed to be sufficient quality for the championship, therefore there may have been some pretty ruthless conversations and decisions to be made as to the quality of our back up options for next season

Third choice keepers basically never get to play, so it might be almost no difference to grudgingly let Ward see his contract out. edit maybe if we are picking up a free with low wages. AKCJ Posted 17 May 2024 Posted 17 May 2024 If Hermansen leaves I would be happy to give Stolarczyk the gloves. Bank the cash and spend it elsewhere until this FFP/PSR stuff ****s off. 3
CloudFox Posted 17 May 2024 Posted 17 May 2024 I know very little about him, but if he matches what we're looking for then signing him as second choice and loaning our Jakub to get some more first team experience wouldn't be a terrible idea. Not signing him for £15m though, that's a daft idea given we need to focus on bringing in players for other areas of the pitch.
