A lot of talk of this announcement but isn't he announcing 32/33 players, that should be pretty much everyone.

Yeah to be fair I should of said 'pre' squad... but... If Rashford and Henderson are in there you can guarantee they'll make the final squad :(

Don’t mind either as squad players tbh

The only advantage Rashford has is that he can play out wide or down the middle, and he is slightly different to the other wide options who do their best work with the ball at feet rather than in behind. By every other metric however, he shouldn't be in the squad.

Be interesting to see if Maddison's lack of form sees him out of the final squad.

Usual favourites will make it plus will make sure theres space for his Palace boys :ermm:

Conor Gallagher will be frustrating one. Dont expect to see Sterling, not just on form but i think the relationship between him and Southgate is broken.

My final 26 would be:

Pickford, Ramsdale & Johnstone.

Walker, Trippier, Trent, Shaw, Chilwell, Maguire, Stones, Guehi, Branthwaite.

Rice, Bellingham, Henderson, Foden, Gallagher, Saka, Palmer, Maddison, Eze, Bowen

Kane, Watkins, Rashford, Toney.

Has Olise decided who he wants to play for yet?

I guess chosing to go French for U21's is a decent clue.

Might be a curveball if Southgate has been speaking to him?

Left back is the one position that's troubling me. I think Chilwell is a dead cert. Shaw's only played like 10 - 15 games this whole season and I would be worried about taking him. I know GS has played Trippier there before but just feels like it's our weak spot in the swquad.

What's more painful is how it could be solved if we played more like the teams these players play for.

A back four of Walker, Stones, Guehi and Trent with Trent inverting into midfield, meaning we only have to have Rice as a defensive mid player.

Free's up the option of Bellingham and Foden/Palmer in midfield with Kane, Saka and Palmer/Foden as a front 3

Weird thing to have an issue with. Guehi has only 9 caps and has earned his place when called up, Eze only has 2 caps and arguably should have been called up earlier and have more. Palace have been I fantastic form lately, so if Eze or Olise (should he decide to play for England) get in I wouldn't have a problem. The only other players from Palace are one of the two keepers as third choice and we have such a lack of goalkeeping talent right now, Johnstone and Henderson are about as good as we'll get for a 3rd choice. No other English Palace players apart from Clyne way back have caps or recent call ups so it's hardly like he filling the squad with Palace players.

Completely agree but it's almost like wasted energy willing for GS to play like that, he doesn't dare do anything unorthodox or anything that could be seen as adventurous.

Will be right behind England this tournament - with the level of players we have we should be going in with every confidence of winning or making the final but with GS you just feel like he doesn't have it in him to go for it. I hope I'm proved wrong.

MY final 26 is;

GK's

Pickford, Ramsdale, Johnstone

DEF

Walker, TAA, Trippier, Stones, Maguire, Colwill, Guehi, Branthwaite, Chilwell, Shaw

MID

Rice, Henderson, Bellingham, Gallagher, Maddison, Palmer, Foden, Gordon, Saka, Bowen

ATT

Kane, Watkins, Rashford

My feeling is with GS he'll want 5 CB's, at least 2 RB/LB's and then Trippier who can do both. I think he'll want 2 for every position in midfield and then Rashford can play CF or LW as cover.

Losing out for me is Grealish, Eze, Toney then maybe Mitchell and Gomez in defence.

Won't make the final squad but sounds like Adam Wharton is in for some frendlies experience.

Going to be an incredible player so that's positive.

Henderson out according to Ormstein phewwww

Dean Henderson in too, after Palace good form, so I imagine Johnstone misses out entirely

Shaw, Maddison and Rashford shouldn't be anywhere near this squad.

Past time to start taking players on form. Eze should walk into the final 26.

Refreshing to see Wharton & Mainoo fight it out to be Rice’s backup.

Personally I’d give Wharton the edge right now to make the final 26.

Rice, Mainoo and Bellinghmam should be the midfield 3.
