The purchase price was about £14m or so wasn’t it? They obviously value him highly, sometimes going for a slightly older player like Mavididi, for instance, can pay dividends. He won’t be so green. £16-17m isn’t all so bad, but it would be towards to top end of our budget! An alternative could be Pablo Solari, 23, and his fee is likely to be £8-£10 million.

But a little less risk with it being initially a loan, also was deemed africas best u20s player at one point or something along those lines? im just saying looks good in the videos but in terms of who he’s played against that may say more about the opposition than himself. Don’t want us having our pants pulled down but hopefully he’s a diamond but I don’t like the idea of risk in our situation.

I agree, it’s a massive risk….. but we’re probably going to have to take more risks, in our position some may pay off, some may backfire, but it’s ultimately the position we’re in.

Is he worth £16m or so (more than both Stephy and Abdul)? it is more likely the structure than the fee that will be holding us off from the release clause. I don’t think we could activate a release clause and then dictate when the payments arrive etc. Which is likely why we are trying to strike a deal outside of it.

Thing is we weren't exactly successful with transfers when we supposedly were getting good players! Id rather us take some risks like the old days, we might get another Mahrez or Kante, we might not.

Really the best players we have had in recent years, have come from the academy. Last year was a bit better, and more what we need to aim for with gems like Abdul. 1

If we can do the same this window, then we could end up with an exciting team. 1
HankMarvin Posted 2 July 2024 Author Posted 2 July 2024 Seems odd we offered 800k less than his release

honeybradger Posted 2 July 2024 Posted 2 July 2024 15mil on a 24 yr old winger who doesnt have a great record in the Argentinian league seems strange to me. Surely it's smarter to use this money on a quality midfielder. 1

MPH Posted 2 July 2024 Posted 2 July 2024 If there’s one thing we have an abundance of in this world , it’s CMs..
kingfox Posted 3 July 2024 Posted 3 July 2024 If the idea of wanting wingers who excel in 1 vs 1 situations still remains, then I can see why we’re interested in this guy. So far this season he is averaging 8 dribbles per90, compare that to Mavididi and Fatawu last season, Mavididi averaged 7, while Fatawu averaged 9. 1

StriderHiryu Posted 4 July 2024 Posted 4 July 2024 To be fair if Jaden Phillogene is available for the same money, he is the better signing to make given he's just proved himself at Championship level. Maybe a more realistic signing is Morgan Whittaker who no-one is talking about, but got 19 goals and 8 assists across all competitions for a poor Plymouth side last time round. 2

Yeah it's weird, seemed to be a lot of talk about Whittaker during the season but since it ended nothing at all 1
